Official Blackest Night Thread

I like the Blue Lanterns. I can see your guy's points as to why they suck but I tend to disagree. I know we all love our heroes to be violent and proactive but I find it refreshing that there are heroes who believe inspiration will lead to action.
I have no problem with their main weapon being inspiration (although it seems like they also consider their fists pretty handy weapons against the Orange Lanterns right now). I have a problem with their being so highly linked to religion. There are other sources of inspiration and hope besides the idea that some dude created you and is looking after you from on high.

"There are other sources of inspiration and hope besides the idea that some dude created you and is looking after you from on high"

Agreed and hopefully as they devlpoe the blue lanterns futher there will be more types of inspiration than religeous architypes.

Does anyone really care that Nekron is the villain behind this all? I mean I really wanted something fresh and not just another skull themed icon of death.

It didn't really matter to me who the main villain was. Nekron, the Anti-Monitor, whatever. I think the Black Lanterns kind of don't need a main villain, to be honest. The idea that oblivion itself has slowly built up forces and is now out to reclaim all life for the void is far more chilling than any supervillain.

Amen man, I love the black hand as the villain. He just want peace in the universe. He really is not evil or good. All great villains fancy themselves heroes. Nothingness is was scarier than a giant skull monster awakening.

Brown Lantern, there is a Quote button on each one of Corpulent1s' post's just click that and they click Post Reply. You will be able to quote him with out typing it.

God's balls, I couldn't stand Blackest Night: Superman this week. What the hell happened? The dialogue is a constant reminder that it's all coming from the same man who brought us the jewel known as "together we can be justice."

And the art. By the hoary ****ing hosts. It's called a line of action, Barrows. Look into it. And everyone's faces look like some variation of :yellow:.

Bah. I don't like buying the first issue of something and then not following through with the rest, but I was more than happy to do so for this book.

Yeah, this weeks issue was crap. Once again, all BL dialogue is indistinguishable from the others. And when did lil' ol' Martha Kent turn into Ultimate May Parker?

Yeah BN: Superman sucked hard this week, Oh and BrianWilly why in Firefly do they speak Chinese some times? Or is that explained later in the show, im on the final disc of the series and just rented Serenity to watch later.

I thought it was cause the two superpowers at the time of leaving earth were USA and China, so they worked together to save humanity.

Superman has just been in a suck tornado in the past couple years...new krypton sucks (from what Ive read of it)

They don't speak Chinese on Firefly. They try to speak Chinese.

Yeah there's not really a grand epic story about it. In the 'verse, China and America were simply the ones that eventually won out in the inevitable globalization phenomenon. It's just what Joss envisions would happen in the future. I suppose it must have some basis in reality or else he wouldn't have thunk it, but I dunno much about that cultural futurism stuff.

Because China takes over earth, essentially.
Thank you.

Thank you for correcting him.

Thank you for explaining in some sort of detail. By the way im still totally loving the show and still think BSG is better. :awesome: I kid, I kid...................kinda. Its a great show but im pissed that its going to have to end, that makes me very sad. I just wish it could have gone as long or longer than BSG seems like there is so much potential.

I think NK is pretty damn good. actually. Rucka is very consistent.

So Question:

Did Diana Prince die? it says that in one of the BN issues right?

Quoting myself from http://forums.superherohype.com/showpost.php?p=17327126&postcount=2048:

Wonder Woman was killed by Neron, yes. Back in Messner-Leob's run, Hippolyta had called for another contest for the title of Wonder Woman, and rigged it so that Artemis would win, because Hippolyta had received a prophecy saying that someone in the Wonder Woman suit would die soon. Anyone remember that? No? :( Well anyway, Byrne's run came along, and it was revealed that Hippolyta accomplished this with a spell (commissioned from another Amazon, later revealed to be corrupt) that transferred Diana's power to Artemis when they were near. More plot happens. Everyone (Diana, Artemis, Hippolyta, Cassie, random supporting cast cop) ends up in hell. Neron takes advantage of Diana's current weakness to kill her.

Then her gods turn her into a goddess, and then eventually turn her into a mortal when she's not a very good goddess. (cares too much about her friends) Technically I guess she was dead for an issue or so before turning into a goddess, but if you count all the time that she was a goddess as not being alive in the mortal sense, then she was "dead" for a very long time. Longer than Superman.

So now you know.

The moral story of Blackest Night: Superman #2 is:

Don't mess with Superman's mother, foo's.

^yeah. That's the only positiv thing I liked about this issue. I thought it was completely dull and useless, almost boring. Too bad because issue one was good, IMO. After reading it I thought "I wish I had read this without buying this crap". But Martha Kent was fine.

Barry Allen's return is a glaring example of the fans-as-creators thing. Would Barry really be coming back 20 years after his death if DiDio, Johns, Van Sciver, and whoever else weren't huge fans of the character? It's possible, I guess, but it seems really unlikely given that Wally had a very successful Flash series in those intervening years.
I completely, completely agree. Wally was established as The Flash, and was successfully established. There were no need to bring back Barry Allen.

which Geoff Johns was a big part of...he was the reason I started reading The Flash again...and now he's changing some things

Yeah, he did a good job with Wally. That doesn't necessarily mean he can do no wrong, though.

That said, if Barry continues to be as serious-yet-cool as he is in Blackest Night, I'll read his new series.
