When Alan Moore was writing Captain Britain, he assigned all the parrallel universes a number. 616 was a random choice
Woohoo, someone else here has actually seen Fierce People! I was beginning to worry that I had dreamed that movie up.![]()

Superheroes can be a pretty whiny and neurotic bunch. They always seem to have deep personal problems, crises of faith, or just serious issues reconciling their daily lives with their need to dress in spandex and punch criminals. Captain America isn't buying what they're selling.
The movie shouldn't make Cap out to be a self-doubting or self-loathing figure. He hails from an earlier, simpler time in comics, when heroes put on costumes and went out to do what needed to be done. They may have had tragic origins that inspired them in the first place, but the heroes of the Golden Age never worried about how to pay the bills or how to score a date or whether they were doing the right thing. Some characters of this time have grown and evolved to suit modern storytelling sensibilities, but not Cap. He remains a hero who is elegant in his simplicity.
The last thing this movie needs to do is trip over itself trying to portray Steve Rogers as a conflicted figure. Yes, there is hardship in his life. He doesn't have an easy childhood thanks to his weak body and his status as an orphan. But the entire appeal of the character is his desire to fight. He won the right to become Captain America because he refused to allow his physical weakness to get in the way of his need to fight for America. Steve is a man who is never in doubt of what is right and just. He's a simpler sort of hero that modern movies don't feature enough of.
The entire early mythology of Captain America is meant to be uplifting and inspiring. This is a story of a generation of young men and women who suffered through the terrible years of the Depression. Though war looms large, this generation picks itself up by its collective bootstraps and reaches for a better future. Cap is almost like Forrest Gump in a way, as he too personifies the American experience during a particularly tumultuous time in the country's history.
Cap doesn't need angst. He doesn't need to be crippled by self-doubt. He just needs to go out and fight. One year after First Avenger: Captain America hits theaters, Cap will be returning in the Avengers movie. Compared to an armored billionaire, a living god, and a monster with the strength to shatter mountains, Cap's powers are meager. His true strength is his ability to inspire others to greatness. Viewers need to be inspired by Cap every bit as much as the rest of the Avengers are.
Chris Evans is going from high profile Human Torch to even higher profile Captain America, and in the same Marvel Universe. He is already established as Johnny Storm and the majority of comic book movie fans will already have identified him as such until someone else plays Johnny Storm.
Far as I'm concerned Fox's marvel is Ultimate marvel and Marvels is 616. I don;t mind using the same actor for a different character. If they think someone is perfect for a role and that's something they would not take lightly then I have 100% faith in them. Its stupid to dismiss someone because of there previous acting jobs. unless of course they SUCKED. I've seen him in a number of films and IMO he always delivers. It's not like his fantastic four is even in the universe as the one marvels setting up. I can't wait to see him in action.
On the SHH poll, 11.5% think awesome casting, 35% saying he'll be ok, and the rest aren't too positive. That's more than 50% disagreeing in some respect. For a character like Captain America I would have hoped their choice would poll 75% approval at least.
atually 616 is a variation on the number of the beast 666

Cap is a soldier as much as he is a hero, and there's no point trying to sidestep that. The last Captain America movie made many mistakes, but one of the biggest was rushing through Cap's early career and whisking him away to the present within minutes. The movie became much more bland after those early moments.
I heard it was the year and month the FF were formed.

Nice. It's streaming on Netflix; I'm planning to watch it tonight after LOST.
I usually hate IGN, but that was a good read.
I completely agree with this.

YES YES YES. Please accept this, Chris! Don't leave us with these other goobers.
Marvel better not scare him away with another terrible deal.
True, but an actor that's shown more range than Reynolds, so I'm infinitely more excited about this safe choice.
Sunshine/Push/London/Street Kings/ he has a more serious body of work than comedic imo
Nice.
Just a heads-up though, he's not Cap-like in that movie, so don't go in thinking of it as an argument for him as Cap. I think it's just one of the arguments for him as an actor in general.
I don't mean in movies, I worded that wrong, I mean in the type of character that he played in those movies...what is the range?
And I'm not trying to argue the point, the only of those movies that I've seen is Sunshine, and he played a cocky, aggressive, hottie, as he did in Fantastic Four, and Cellular....I'm curious as to the other characters he played...
yeah what ever makes you happyc'mon is this goin to be the next bales physique thread for evans?....
