Official Early Bought/Thought Thread **SPOILERS**

Well, it's a nice thought, but somehow I don't see Millar changing his style up too much for the FF. He thrives on shock tactics and violence is excellent for delivering shocks. Hell, we've already seen a cover where Ben is crying over Johnny and Sue's bullet-riddled bodies.

Ouch.

Ah, I never liked Sue anyway.

Oh, you mean that McNiven thing (Clint Eastwood.) I like McNiven, so again, I'll give it a try. Not expecting much with that one.

Yeah sorry, but there's only one clint in my mind, hawkeye is the other clint. Though he's in it too (as a drug dealer). Personally I think I'll enjoy it. I like the alternate timeline stories, and it'll make millar's take on things easier to swallow. Plus the gang thing sounds cool, and if he really is modeling this after unforgiven then I'm sold. Just not on tying that into the new FF run.

Yeah, I thought Sue was pretty much the most likable figure in all of Marveldom. The only times she's been annoying are when she was possessed by Malice (thus, not her fault) and when she put on that skanky ****-costume (I chalk that up to a mid-life crisis).

Amazing Spider-Man #549 – So, a new team of Gale and Jiminez start off .

For those of you who didn’t see the preview, it starts off with a villain flying around taking out some criminals. This is supposedly the first ‘glimpse' of Menace (who isn’t actually shown in this issue.) It then cuts to Spidey saving some construction workers replacing the Daily Bugle sign from falling. Pete’s going to his first meeting with the new publisher of The DB, Dexter Bennett. There are two running jokes going on here. One, that Bennett keeps referring to Pete as Porker, Palmer, etc. The other is that even after Pete shows up late, Bennett uses him as an example as the guy that hussles, that in the week he’s been there, he’s never seen Pete not running here or there. Any way, he offers $10,000 for anyone getting a picture of the new villain.

While swinging around, looking for him, Pete saves a damsel from a mugger. Except that the damsel was actually fighting the mugger. Enter Jackpot. (Pete asks if her name is Cracker Jack or something.) She’s portrayed as a bit of a newbie (which she is) and both berates and asks for Spidey’s help at the same time. She even tries to claim the new goblin as part of her new rogue’s gallery. At the end of the encounter, Spidey asks her if her initials happen to be MJ. She, of course, declines to reveal anything.

Which segue-ways into a scene with Pete, Harry, Lily, and Carlie at some batting cages at Coney Island. Pete asks Harry if MJ is back in town and they have a little conversation about that, which leads Pete back on the trail of the new villain. He mistakes Jackpot as a henchman, and punches her (giving her the opportunity to make a crack about “hitting the Jackpot”…how long do you think they’ve wanted to use that line?) the issue ends with Spidey about to be arrested for not being registered…Face it, Tiger. You’re under arrest!
Thoughts: Bottom line, what you liked about the first three, you’ll like about this one. Sub-plots, supporting cast, a new villain, a new ally(?). I definitely liked the first team more, especially the art. But the inker makes this very un-Larrocca-like. Which is a good thing. It looks a little less slick, a little grittier than what he usually does. Good continuation of the first storyline.

Sorry, I got confused. there's a credit box where they refer to Team Spidey (or somesuch) and list Slott, et al. I must have gotten those names in my head. I even referred to Larrocca in the review. My bad.
