If that's how he felt, then they should have somehow conveyed it in the issue. Which they didn't. And that seems to be a pretty selfish an unheroic way for a superhero to turn his back on his beliefs, anyway.

Marvel set up The Return as this huge event of a classic hero seeing the current Marvel universe, friends fighting friends and the state of the world going haywire, and reeling from how horrible and overwhelming it all is. What actually happened was that the guy stood around and said "Durrrrr...what? Maths is hard!" for half an issue.

Precisely!

Was I the only one who was preturbed that nothing happened out of the Sentry's bit? I mentioned it a few times.

I think The Return would be a lot better recieived if, call me crazy here, but if it happened like you know, at the beginning of Civil War, not towards the end. Crazy, maybe.

You mean the exploding gas station thingy? That was an irritation, but I think I've grown a bit numb to them by now. The Captain Marvel story pretty much soaked up the majority of my attention. Hell, before I looked through the book at the store, I didn't even know that there was a Sentry portion.

The Captain Marvel story would've made more sense IMO as well if this happened before. Ok, we're just finding out now that Mar-Vell was running 42? Okkkk.

Yes it is pretty selfish but since he's from the past, maybe he feels like he can cheat death return to the past and prevent all this bull**** from happening. Plus we've seen him in half an issue, who's to say that he deosn't turn his back on the whole registration thing, remember he has his own comic coming out, there is plenty of time for him to change his ways.

Marvel did not make a big deal out of The Return, they didn't even promote it, if you didn't buy Marvel Previews chances are you didn't even know about the Return. The Fans are the ones who hyped it and made it a big deal, cause the cover gave it away that Captain Mar-Vell was returning, and because it was Mar-Vell fans where under the immpression that it had to be this huge event. But the fact of the matter is Marvel didn't set it up as a huge event, we did, so why did you expect so much, when Marvel wasn't even implying that much.

If we as fans knew Mar-Vell was back and running Fantasy Island (42) then from issue 1 of CW, everybody would be expcting him to play some huge role in Civil War, and maybe just maybe Marvel didn't want that. Now that the final battle from 6 is leading directly into 7 then we cant really expect Mar-Vell to get involved. Plus he himself isnt ready to show his face publicly.

You know what I call that? Poor planning. And lets be real here, Mar-Vell should've returned in Annihilation anyway.

Yes, it sounds painfully tacked on. And to use such a GREAT character in such a throwaway role...sigh.

Yes he should've returned in Annihilation, I totally agree with you on that.

The poor planning I dont agree with you on though.:o

I also agree that would have made more sense and, with Giffen aboard, done much better. Could have made for a great final page or something.

Anyway, I can't wait for Nova vs. Annihilus in ANNIHILATION #6.

I cant wait for Nova's ongoing coming in April, he keeps all of the Nova Force, how *****in.:hyper:

And unfortunately, absolutely none of that will affect the quality of this issue.

The fact alone that it was CAPTAIN BLOODY MARVEL returning from the dead after decades implies Big Event, or at the least significant attention. Of course the fans were going to clamor. Marvel knew that, or at least they should, and they got exactly the sort of reaction they wanted. Just like the reaction people gave to Clor, and to Hawkeye, and to every other "shocking" development this year.

But instead of delivering in return, they gave us a wimpy, lethargic shoo-in that barely makes any storyline sense, much less character sense. The fact alone that people feel the need to justify Mar-Vell's involvement with 42 should be warning enough.

It would have been cooler if Cap'n Marvel returned when Nitro exploded at Stamford. The release of energy could've brought him to the future (Hey it's Marvel science!)

Could be it's a little to convient for him to show up out of the blue.

I agree. and how likely is it that Reed Richards is going to mess up a gateway into the Negative Zone? I mean the FF practically keep a summer-home there.

Makes ya wonder..or maybe it's something Allan Heinberg requested?

This Mar-Vell is the "beloved character" that dies in CW.:o

No clue.

I'm thinking it's gonna be Cap'n America more and more.

It kinda adds up.

1. Bucky (Winter Soldier) returns.

2. Mark Millar seems to have a certain sadist streak when it comes to Cap.

3. The climate at Marvel seems to be anything that represnts America is evil or at least amoral and deluded.

After reading the Return, I can't help but think they came up with this when the delays started. It was so badly handed that I can't fathom that they spent a lot of time on it. Add to the fact that his death was written so well it's annoying to basically null it and also it doesn't make sense that they had a good bloodline legacy for the character in Hulkling.

Badly conceived, bad timing, badly planned and leading to a bad product.

can't help but agree... mostly because I couldn't possibly sound as much like an expert as he did. But I do agree. Reading the issue just seemed to telegraph it to me.the subtle things that made me go "yeah right".
