I saw the latest Thunderbolts. Good issue. The ending was fun. "Who do you think?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" :gg::bomb:

I was surprised that the President wasnt clearly made out to be Obama. He was clearly a black man, but his face was obscured. I wonder why they did that. If Obama had clearly appeared in the issue, maybe it would have sold a million copies like ASM 583 did.

And no, I have no idea how many copies ASM sold.
I actually prefer it when they don't show the President's face. It sorta...dates the issue. I don't wanna read the same comic in 10 years or so and feel ancient. :csad::oldrazz:

Well yeah, there is that. Even the first few issues of Ultimate Spider-Man are dated now. Kraven was an Australian host of an animal TV show? Kids who are young now wont see the reference in a few years.

A decent one from JRJR.

Ah, yes. From the back of the Spectacular Spider-Man issue 250. Every once in a while they like to remind us of the original broomstick glider design. Fury, the Goblin Queen rode one in the latest issues of Spider-Girl.

I'd still like to see a Bagley version of the classic Goblin costume. I liked what I saw in The Pulse.

This place is dead. We need some art.

Fan threads are not as active as they should be. Especially considering the villains have stuff going on on TV and in the comics.

Demo, what do you make of Norman's big uprising in the Marvel Universe? You think it suits the character?

So what IS the latest buzz on ol' Greenie in the comics?

Thats a tough one. On a gut instinct level, it feels wrong. Norman has never been the world domination type. (Except for the Gathering of Five thing. Friggin magic has no place in a Spider-Man comic. Leave that to Doctor Strange.) His whole obsession has been Spider-Man, Peter Parker and Harry. Yes, he started out wanting to control the mobs, but it felt like he gave that up long ago. His hatred of Spider-Man quickly eclipsed his lust for power. For over 30 years, his sadistic punishment of Parker has been his defining attribute.

Now, he wants to control S.H.E.I.L.D.? (or H.A.M.M.E.R., as it were). Where does Spider-Man play into this? Simply, he doesnt. All of a sudden his sole obsession doesnt seem to matter to him. Remember the end of "Shush?" He writes the letter thanking Parker for the years of rivalry. Otherwise, he'd just be another boring businessman. Not anymore. He's a major league businessman now.

And yet.

Norman wants power. Period. What does he get from controlling the mob? Power. The Gathering of Five? Power. Riding around a giant bat throwing exploding fruit? You got it. Now he has more power than he could have ever anticipated. And while I didnt care for GoF, it did show his dictatorial tendencies. So I suppose becoming part of a Cabal isnt completely out of character.

I just dont want the bug forgotten. Norman is and always will be a Spider-Man villain. Sure, let him screw with Tony Stark and the Avengers. Stark makes sense as a rival to Norman anyway. Both are weapons contractors and we all know how Norman likes to play nice with competitors. (Think of the Hobgoblin.) But at the end of the day, Norman will always be obsessed with tormenting Parker. So while I can live with the new direction, I want to see Gobby beating on the wall crawler sometime soon. Doing otherwise kills the character.

Norman hasn't been a great spidey villain recently. Some really bad things happened when he came back to life. Gathering of the 5, for some reason, controlling Thunderbolts. Come back Gobby!:csad:

Some really great things happened, too. Shush, Death in the Family, Spider-Hunt, Revelations, etc

I would be fine with the new direction if BND did not destroy there relationship. So much had happen between the two creating one hell of a rivalery. Now None of that happen other then Gwen, Harry is back(the story of Harry's death I think always made the Norman/parker war that much more epic) and the worse, Norman doesnt even know Peter is Spider-Man anymore. If they gave this story to Norman about a year ago it would have been intresting(still hard to belive) but intresting. Now they have just kinda stailed and regressed the relationship between the two as if where back in the 70s.

Marvel says Peter will play a big part in Norman's plans, I just don't think it will be as cool as it could be.

Norman having forgotten Peter's secret really makes the rivalry less interesting, imo. Its a much more "typical" superhero/villain dynamic now. We dont have the cat and mouse aspect anymore, which is what I loved about the Goblin.

Look, I'll admit that breaking up the marriage could have been an interesting story....had it ended by divorce. Thats realistic. Thats understandable. The way it was actually carried out is bull. Ok, and Harry wasnt brought back by magic. Great but why did he just happen to come back now, of all times? Its just too convenient for Norman to decide to let Harry come back to the States just as MJ was no longer out of the picture. Its thirty years ago all over again, and Oh so conveniently!

But none of this really matters, because Spidey is finally back to the glory days of the 1970's. And everyone knows that the best stories came out of the 70's. Character development? Who needs character development? Spidey can go out speed dating and his spider sense can warn him about the blond bimbo he is talking to. Isnt that better than mature, intelligent stories about a man and his wife?

Great points, Demo. You read my mind. Norman seems to have forgotten his roots. He is letting all this power distract him from his true self. "You've taken your eye off the ball" :gg:

Now for the 64'000 dollar question: What's the verdict about bringing Harry back from the dead?

Before I answer that, I want to add something to todays first post. Not only was Norman shown to have dictatorial tendencies in the GoF but he also mentioned envying Hitler's control over his underlings in an issue of Thunderbolts. Liz Allen, before Norman re-took control of OsCorp, mentioned that she wanted her employees to feel comfortable. I think the quote was "I refuse to run this company the way my father in law did."

I still dont understand what exactly happened to Harry in Spect 200, too. He collapses and "dies." What causes this? Did Norman tamper with Harry's version of the Goblin formula? He was "high" on the formula? Harry was a drug addict well before he ever took the formula and as far as we know, he beat his addiction. Since when does the formula cause a high? Look at the first Hobgoblin stories. Testing the formula caused the house to explode. Lefty Donovan was seen screaming in pain as the liquid hit his face. And Harry seemed very lucid during his last battle as the Goblin for someone that was apparently high.

As for Mysterio, thats really the only non-magical route that could have been taken to explain Harry's re-appearance. I still dont understand how Norman knew that Harry would fail at that particular battle. Is Norman psychic?

Look, the Osborns and the Parkers hate each other, for damn good reasons. Norman killed Gwen, Peter "killed" Norman. Peter killed Norman, Harry hates Peter. Peter "kills" Harry, Norman kills baby May. Peter foiled all of Norman's plans, Norman ruins Peter's life. Thats why I love reading Goblin stories. Peter doesnt normally have a dark side, but the Green Goblin brings it out in him.

Sorry to say it, but we need at least one dead Osborn. Death makes up a lot of the Goblin/Spider rivalry. Norman was disappointed in Harry as a son but demanded the life of an Osborn be avenged. Thats drama. Now Harry is alive. Norman doesnt know Peter's ID anymore, so he doesnt hate him. He even "Went easy" on Peter by having the Thunderbolts tear up his apartment instead of tearing Peter up. What would the old Norman have done? Ask Cell 12, from the Clone Saga. Now, there is a little less anger and hate. There is less fuel on the fire and it burns less brightly.

I'm actually quite loooking foward to seeing the future of Noreman and basically H.A.M.M.E.R. This was truly a big change in the comcis, so I want to see how it's all resolved.

To each his own, SMH. I just dont like sudden 180 turns in character.

As far as Spect 200 didnt Harry say he was testing out a NEW version of the Goblin serum? That it would make him stronger than his father? The downside was that it turned out to be toxic. Harry wasnt the chemist his father was.

That being said, I guess BND pretty much blew that comic outta the water so...

Yeah, it was a new formula. I just dont understand why Harry collapsed like that. Was the new formula toxic or not? If so, was it toxic enough to be life threatening? Did he need medical treatment?

He was constantly running a fever & refused treatment despite Liz's numerous pleas, as I recall.

Unavoidable. What about the slang or references to pop culture? The fashions can date a comic. All kinds of things can. The art. How old will you feel 10 years from now looking at some Michael Turner art?
