Just because they're comedies doesnt mean he cant be taken seriously especially when it comes to playing a ball-busting alien like Kilowag

Fallen and Death Sentence . . . uh yeah.

Look you don't get John Goodman to play Kilowag in a live action GL movie.

Eh, I usually can't take Kilowog seriously anyway--in the same way that I can't take most drill-sergeant type characters seriously.

"Fallen" and "Death Sentence" are both of dubious quality, but John Goodman delivers the goods in both films. By far the best example of serious Goodman, however, is "Barton Fink", which is a brilliant film. Is there a lot of good dramatic roles in Goodman's CV? No, which is understandably given he's best known as a comedy actor. You don't say that you can't take Christian Bale seriously because there's a lack of good comedy on his CV.

But anyhoo, this discussion is all hypothetical, as the Goodman as Kilowog story was debunked as utterly bogus. But it's a casting I'd have little problem, though I feel Kilowog's probably best brought to life through CGI and VOICED by someone like Goodman.

I feel the same way; anyone who has the word 'poozer' in the vocabulary can't be taken too seriously.

This might be an odd pick, but I think Forest Whitaker should play/voice Kilowog.

While I worry a bit about Berlanti, that statement above isn't really true. MSJ's only prior directing experience before Daredevil was Simon Birch.

I haven't seen SB yet but isn't that much closer to DD then Broken Hearts Club to GL?

A film that missed the point so bad that John Irving forced them to change the title from that of his book. Berlanti might actually have a better resume than MSJ prior to Daredevil.

How so?

Eli Stone seems to be getting good notices and good directors have come out of the television ranks before, Altman and Spielberg leap to mind, so it's not unprecedented.

Yes, good directors have come out tv before but Berlanti doesn't fit that description, it's Joss Whedon.

Speilberg directed 6 films before gettting into tv then did 5 tv movies and directed 6 tv episodes and finally another film before going onto Jaws, a movie much easier to make then a space opera like GL will be and Spielberg didn't expect the movie to be a blockbuster, either. Berlanti needs GL to be one.

Altman didn't begin in tv, either. He directed several movies before tv then literally directed dozens of tv episodes.

Berlanti hasnt directed a single thing on tv, he was only a producer and writer.

He has directed a movie but it was for theaters in a different genre, a movie which didn't make much of an impact (in fact he went stright back to tv after it was made he did not become a big time movie director) and it was 8 years ago.

Heck, I'm probably happier about a guy involved in storytelling than a guy who just shot music videos.

Why would GL have to settle for a music video director if Berlanti isn't directing it? The producer, Deline, rolodex must have some good names on it.

Or at least have the connections to find out whether directors like Proyas or Whedon would be interested.

Which is not to say that Berlanti would be my first choice and I wouldn't necessarily mind looking around for a better one, but he's gotten it this far and he apparently has a vision, so that's at least a hopeful sign.

Having a vision definitely isn't enough when he hasn't shown he can actually execute it on any projects he's done.

This is exactly how we ended up with Daredevil.

A "sign" isn't good enough. Berlanti will need more then that to succeed as a director on GL.

He'd be great but does he have to be the voice behind every big monster?

Well, Kilowog will most likely be CGI...So they should just go with a voice actor. Especially for a bit part that consists of basically saying "Poozer."

Actually Knight, I'd love to see Rick Baker get a shot at creating a prosthetic Kilowog suit.

Me too which immediately call for a big guy who can act with a great voice aren't too many of those around hence my choice.

That'd be nice. Great suggestion, SUPERBENITEZ. But I still think they will just CGI him, considering he's not a major character. We'll see.

It's great that, as fans, we're actually in a position to realistically debate about how Kilowogs going to be presented though, isnt it?

Just actually take a step back and think - we're finally getting a GL movie. A seriously epic one at that.

Imagine it - the Corps, the Guardians, Abin Sur, Sinestro, Oa etc.....................
