I don't think 39 is too old for Hal Jordan. Hell, I'd still want Ben Browder to play the character and he's like pushing 50.

Thing is, they got an older guy for Tony Stark. Guy in his early 40's. But they can still play the role younger. Boreanaz is in pretty good shape for his age, so he could pass off for early 30's if he wants.

I don't mind casting older actors in some cases as these characters because as the case was with Iron Man it just gives them more experience, wisdom, and seasoning to play the role. I'm just so glad we didn't get DiCaprio as Tony Stark. Not that I think he's a horrible actor, he was just wrong for the role.

I don't see a problem with Hal Jordan being played by an older actor, in general. Just not so much for an origin movie. I imagine the character as being in his late 30s, maybe even early 40s NOW, after a lengthy tenure as a superhero. So, when he's starting out, I'd say it'd be wise to cast someone who is late 20s/early 30s. Late 30s at the absolute oldest, and only then if it's someone who'd be absolutely brilliant in the role. And I'm not sure if Boreanez is quite that guy.

As for DiCaprio, I think he could make an intriguing Hal. Not quite an exact match for the comics, but I think he's a strong enough actor that he could pull it off.

I spoke with Geoff Johns over the summer, and he envisions Hal as being in his mid-30's. I know that quite doesn't work, but it's comics you know ;) .

He also did basically "de-age" Hal during Rebirth. Similar to how Kevin Smith totally de-aged Ollie in Green Arrow run by giving Ollie a new, fresh, young body.

What about Josh Hartnett as GL?

Absolutely no to Hartnett. His face look weird and he doesn't have the swagger of Hal Jordan, somethings just can't be acted. He's never shown me any acting I deemed "Good" in anything he's done.

I'm totally not pimping him or anything, but this dude Scott Porter said that he wants badly to play Hal Jordan. ( I read this in my men's health Mag) I watch him on FNL sometimes. I think he's cool, not my first choice (Nathan Fillion) but just saying he WANTS to do it.

He's 29 I believe around the age they want for the film.

So, what are you guys thoughts on this dude? Seems like everybody and their father wants to be Green Lantern.

Completely unrelated, but I wore my GL t-shirt to chik-fil-a today and the dude at the drive through totally gave me props. Little things like that totally let me know that people totally dig Green Lantern. I schooled him on the flick being developed and he totally geeked out! :hehe:

yeah, Hartnett isn't my choice either. Just thought it'd be good to throw that out there tho.

I kind of agree with that. First off Hal spent a career in the Airforce where he fought in a war. His story takes place years after that where he is already established as a test pilot. In addition the average age of a test pilot is over 30.

Yeah that's kinda why I'm pulling for people like Ben Browder or Nathan Fillian because you figure Hal should at least be 34 or so.

God keep pictures of Josh Hartnett out of here. It's bad enough I had to suffer with him as the lead in 30 Days of Night.

Josh Lucas.

He convinced me he'd be a great Hal in Stealth.

Hal should be played by an over 30 actor (and so should Superman).

Unless they're playing Jack Knight or Kyle Rayner

Well its all what is the direction they want to do and who the studio think they can bank a series of films off of. I say a late 20s/early 30s would be a good fit to go.

Hal starting out isnt over 30 though. And Superman is an Alien meaning he ages slower so like Diana, he should look young (but built) for his age.

Zooey would be an interesting choice as Carol, i dont know if she can play her as Star Sapphire, a character that has to appear sometime in the series

As for Hal i like these choices:

Jensen Ackles
Scott Porter
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

if any of those are cast it'd be happy

So, is there a front runner in here for Hal? There's no poll, it's hard to figure out who's popular.

I'm all for older actors playing the characters, but keep in mind that they all didn't begin their careers at that age. Hal became GL at age 26, Barry became Flash at 24, Clark became Supes at age 28, etc, so while Fillon, Boreanaz, Caviezel, etc, might fit our idea of Hal Jordan, for an origin flick, I'd have to side with WB on this one and cast a young guy in his mid - late twenties for the part. Hal's 27 in the script anyway.

Right now, off the bat, I suggest Sean Faris:

Now keep in mind those are old pics, but I think he's got potential and looks the part.

I completely agree with this. Scott Porter needs to be in a superhero movie stat! The dude has total geek cred.

I think Hal Jordan would be the perfect role for him. He'd embrace it like Reeves did with Superman. I think he has the potential to become 'the face' of the Green Lantern.
