Matthew Fox is a good choice but I'd like him to replace Bale because watching Speed Racer won me over. The guy was pretty much Batman in a Racer X costume :)

You know who needs to be in a Green Lantern movie? Peter Dinklage. He should be one of the guardians of the universe.

Dude's a badass.

I never really thought of Fox replacing Bale, but I guess if it had to happen, it could work. I hope it never has to come to that though.

He does have a a little resemblence to Bale but I think Matthew Fox as Batman is Neal Adams' version come to life in my opinion.

Bad casting? An excellent, Oscar-nominated actor is far from bad casting. In fact, if Gosling turns the role down, WB are going to have a tough time finding an actor for the role who won't seem like a disappointment in comparison.

Well some one said Matthew fox . I totally agree. He is perfect to play GL

Dinklage needs to be Dr Psycho

I guess the budget for G.L. has to be well over $100 million due to everything he does is a special effect. My question is how do we get great fight scenes while still feeling like the action is not all green screen? Does he EVER fight with his hands or feet at all? I am familiar with him thru the j.l. cartoons but that was the jon stewart version. Just curious as to if EVERYTIME some action happens it's gonna be all about him pointing the ring....

John Goodman Up For Role in WB's "Green Lantern"?

Veteran actor of stage, television and screen, John Goodman has been tapped by Warner Brothers to portray Kilowog, an extraterrestrial being who befriends the superhero Green Lantern in the big screen adaptation of the comic book series of the same name. "Green Lantern" is slated for production for Spring 2009. The title role has not been cast, however, rumor is rampant that the shortlist of stars includes Ryan Gosling, James Franco, Jake Gyllenhaal and Josh Hartnett.

If true, Goodman will be the first official cast member of the film. One aspect as to why the role of Kilowog is cast so early has to do with the characters costume design. Originally planned to be a complete CGI creation, the creative staff has transitioned into making Kilowog played by a human actor wearing intricate prosthetics. Goodman will be fitted with these as soon as he signs on the dotted line. When asked why Goodman is a good choice to play Kilowog, Director Greg Berlanti said, "Well, he has the build, the loveable charm, the overbite and the stomach to pull it off." Oddly enough, Berlanti said this with a straight face and did not laugh.

Ray Winstone was my top choice for Kilowog, but John Goodman is a suitable candidate.

Of course, he's best known for his comedic roles. I loved him in "The Big Lebowski". But what a lot of people don't realise is, when you look at a film like "Barton Fink", is that Goodman can manipulate his portly frame and use it to come across as someone who feels very threatening and scary. And for a role like Kilowog, I think a combination of likeable/funny and scary/threatening is appropriate.

As for the Hal casting update, it's more good news. If this is really their shortlist, then it's a very good sign for this movie. My least favourite of that group is Josh Hartnett, and even he is decent if the role is right and the film is good.

Agreed wholeheartedly about Goodman, and I feel the same about the short list, only instead of Hartnett, Franco is my least favorite. I'm pulling for Gosling though.

Kilowag NEEDS to be CGI. Goodman isn't a bad choice to voice the character. I would personally have chosen Brad Garret.

Peter Dinklage is a great actor. He would probably be a great Ganthet. They would need to ensure that the character has some great dialogue and interaction. I've always been a fan of his. Warwick Davis just isn't that powerful an actor. He wouldn't be bad as another Guardian.

Just a thought that occurred to me while typing this.. I'd prefer the Guardians to NOT be a bright blue. It would be better if they chose a grey blue. More natural, I think.

You should send this to the front page.

The question isn't whether Gosling isn't right for the role based on his skills, it's actually whether he's right for the role physically.

I like Gosling. I've seen him in several different films and he's different in almost all of them. I just don't know if he's right for Hal Jordan. I'd still rather see James Marsden.

Interesting news on goodman possibly getting that role. PErsonally i like if they are planning some of the alien gl characters to appear to be phsyical actors with makeup and then just cgi enhancments. CAnt wait to get some official 100% confirmed cast members.

Advance preview footage of Kilowog's training regime for rookie Corps :woot: :

EDIT: For some reason, it's not working. :(

EDIT AGAIN: Apparently, some of the code together makes a dirty word. Remove the space to view it. :)

I can't find the news on the Associated Press related sites.

I got it from thegreenlanterncorps.com forum. And the poster there cited the source, but never provided the link. But it seems like a pretty random report to fabricate, especially coming from a fairly established member of those forums.

John Goodman as Killowog? Hum... That's actually good. I was hoping for Michael Clarke Duncan or Ray Winstone, but i was also putting Jamie Bamber or Sam Worthington for Hal. Let's wait and see...

OBS: Give us something about Hector Hammond, damnit!

People here didn't notice the other part of the news:
"The title role has not been cast, however, rumor is rampant that the shortlist of stars includes Ryan Gosling, James Franco, Jake Gyllenhaal and Josh Hartnett."
It's probably bogus anyway.

If they put Goodman in costume, his eyes, along with his body mass, need to be CG enhanced. Killowog is a big mother****er, even bigger than the most buff humans.

In the forum where this was posted, the source was cited, but no link was posted. Since this came from an established poster on the board with no reason to lie, I believed it. But in light of Antonello Blueberry's doubting, I did go back and try and find the source of the report myself. But after searching on Google, I can't find anything on John Goodman as Kilowog, or on the author of this article. I may have been scammed, though I hope not. I'll try and keep you up-to-date.
