I guess Barry wanted to make the guns look bigger;

probably has an inferiority complex after standing next to Supes and J'onn.

:D

You seem to be operating under the belief that people can only play a character if they've played carbon copies of said characters before. But that's not the case. Just because Ryan Gosling hasn't played a charismatic, dashing ace pilot before doesn't mean he can't. You may not be willing to accept it, but Gosling has shown diversity in his choice of roles.

Not what Im saying. Just that Gosling is not an inspired casting decision.

You say he only plays quiet, introverted characters, and yes, his role in Lars and the Real Girls fits into that category. But then you have his alpha-male attorney in Fracture,

Havent seen Fracture yet so I cant really say, but from what I know he plays a borderline workaholic.

or his old-school romantic lead in The Notebook

A man who kept to himself and had a small circle of friends. Introverted!

, or his twisted, frightening Jewish neo-Nazi in The Believer

When with fellow Jewish people he would question their beliefs. When with Nazis he would teach them about Judiasm and question their abilities. He pushed away both groups of people when in their company. Introverted!

or his deeply flawed but dedicated schoolteacher in Half-Nelson, a role he was deservingly Oscar-nominated for.

A character that was scared of attachments, someone who was willing to get close to people but felt uncomfortable as time went on. He lashed out at the girl, and his date in the morning that one time, and the teachers in the break room. Introverted!

He's an actor who, as a film fan, I would have been excited to see associated with the Green Lantern film. Which, I'm guessing, was WB's intention.

Being great as an actor doesnt mean you can do whatever you want. I never denied his abilities to perform. Hes a fantastic actor. But hes not an inspired choice as Hal nor does he bring a lot to the table outside of being highly regarded in his field. Would he have been good? Yes, because hes talented. Would he have been absolutely awesome? I would bet no because these arnt his strong points.

Nathan Fillion could make this movie an instant product. And good to boot.

Yeah, sadly he officially confirmed he isn't interested in Green Lantern.

I'm glad Gosling turned down GL though. Gosling is a great actor but he's 100% wrong for Hal Jordan.

Currently some of my top choices for Hal are:

Sam Worthington (Terminator 4)

Josh Brolin (Since he's likely off the Jonah Hex project)

Jim Caviezel

Anyone got any other suggestions?

Congratulations, cerealkiller, you have proven that if you really stretch and twist in your summaries of roles, you can put a whole bunch of diverse characters under the category of one defining word (introverted) which is in itself incredibly broad and covers a lot of ground. I could probably do the same thing with any of the fanboy favourites for Hal, only with a less impressive filmography to work with. The casting of Gosling would have been "inspired" (the word that seems to have sparked such annoyance) precisely BECAUSE it isn't a durr-duh-obvious choice, and is outside of the box of the safe and familiar.

LOL. Almost like in New Frontier where he felt like the other JLAers were outa his league.

Yeah, dude, but in a recent issue of The Flash where he fought Grodd (pre the current storyarc in which Wally is losing his powers) he remarked that he was able to move near the speed of light
Sure, which is mostly true: he can't hit light speed without risk of being trapped in the speed force, so his "top" speed is technically just under light speed, despite the fact that he is physically capable of going faster (and sometimes does).

However, I'm not sure how much longer this will be true: in Final Crisis, both Barry and Wally outrun Death, who Morrison said is moving at light speed. Ergo, they must both be moving faster than light.

I believe that the Cobalt Blue character has been retconned (God, I really hope so) out of current continuity.
I'm not aware of any such retcon.

Brolin isn't gonna do an Iron Man-like movie.

Right-a-roonie.

Caviezel is not going to do a CBF....

Why not? He did that Outlander movie, genre picture doing straight to DVD i think. And other than Passion of the Christ, he hasnt done anything THAT notable. Frequency was the only movie I even liked him in. I feel some people put him on a pedestal.

I figured the tone of this film would be dark, since thats what WB seems to want now.

Can you imagine if that's what was causing the delay?

"No, sorry, the script has to go. It's not dark enough. Have Hector Hammond murder Carol Ferris and sexually defile her corpse while Legion blows up orphanages, then it's greenlight city!"

Guess who's schedule just got cleared up with Eli Stone's likely cancellation (although ABC's just using the "not buying more episodes" thing instead of just saying it).

Sucks that was the best show on television right now (besides House)

But now that means Sam Jaeger's schedule is freed up to be good Ol' Hal Jordan.

I thought he said in interviews before that he wanted Superman. Back in 2004.

I dont think a CBF is far off. I mean he just did Outlander. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0462465/

Caviezel was definitely interested in playing Superman:

http://www.iesb.net/movies2/movie101204c.htm

"I have had no direct, face to face talks with Bryan Singer. All talking has been done through mediators," Caviezel told the IESB. As to whether or not he would like to try to be the Man of Steel, "It appeals to me a great deal, but I haven't seen a script yet. I like to play iconic characters, and I see the role of Superman as a big responsibility. Playing Superman would be a great challenge. With such a big character, it's sink or swim, so you definitely want to have a great director with you. That's why, when I'm approaching these roles, I like to work with great directors like Mel Gibson and Bryan Singer."

Not to mention he was originally cast as Cyclops:

http://community.seattletimes.nwsource.com/archive/?date=20050414&slug=caviezel14

"I was cast as Cyclops in 'X-Men,' " says the 36-year-old Mount Vernon native during a phone call from Nashville, where he's preparing for a new film. "Somewhere during pre-production, it became clear that 'X-Men' was no longer my character's film but had become Hugh Jackman's film. I was literally in costume as Cyclops when the script for 'Madison' came along. I read it and said, 'I need to do this instead.' "

That's too bad. He would have made an excellent Cyclops. The films should have been less about Wolverine and more along the lines of ensemble films. It seems criminal to me that Rogue played a bigger part than Cyclops in every single film. Hell, Nightcrawler played a bigger part in X2 than Cyclops did in all three films combined. Cyclops is way too awesome to be marginalized like that.

Man....Caviezal would have done a great job as Superman/Clark Kent.

Too bad....
