Ok. I'm not going to read 99 pages of this thread. I've only seen the movie once. Never read the book. There that's out of the way...


I thought that Will Smith moved the mannequin himself. I thought that he was going crazy and decided to commit suicide by "trapping" himself.

I know I'm prolly rehashing a bunch of stuff, but am I a complete idiot for thinking that?

Loaded question I know.

The fact that the vamps were waiting in the dark with dogs on leashes didn't explain to you that the vamps set the trap for Neville?

How about the fact that the same vamp who was crying after Neville took his girlfriend was the one with the dogs waiting for retribution?


That said, you are not an idiot. The film was incoherrent at times. It wasn't totally clear.

If he set it for himself, who would commit suicide by hanging themselves by the foot?

If it was a trap set by Neville for the vamps, it would have had to shield them from the light like the other trap we saw him set to catch the girl vamp . He was only trapping them to study them not kill them. The trap that snared Neville had no sack. Any vamp would have been dust in the sunlight.

Neville's crazy subconscious knew that regular Neville would fall for the mannequin trap... then when the sun set he would get eaten by the vamps.

If a producer ever says "lets make a sequel to that last man on earth movie" then Hollywood is beyond redemption.

It's never stated in the book are the any other survivors anywhere. There could be a human living in Israel. Neville was just the last human there where he was living. (Where that was btw? America or Canada?)

"Follow the butterfly" I always thought that the male Infected would come reclaim his woman from Neville. Excellent ... this ending is SOOOOO going on my Custom I am Legend DVD

what vampires, with what dogs, on what leashs? I know which dogs you are talking about, but at no time in this movie, did I see a Vampire, with a Vampire Dog on leash, waiting for Neville to fall into the trap.

Now that would have made this movie even more hollow than it already is

i dont know if this is sarcasm of what.
in the building where teh broken window was there was the alpha vampire with two dogs on the leashes. he waited until it was safe for the dogs.

it was the same trap that neville made. the vampire learned from neville.

Just watched the alternate ending. Pretty good. I'll be going for the two-disc dvd.

I like the new ending. It ties in the butterfly message and it shows the vampires evolving into the superior race. BUT, Neville HAS to die. HE HAS TOO. That's what made I AM LEGEND so great that he dies at the end. Without him dying the titles and the whole LEGEND angle does not work. It's just a story of surviving.

Alternate ending would have been better without the Bridge scene. IMO it should have ended at the part with him looking at the wall of photos as the vampires were leaving, realizing that he's been just as much a monster to them.
