as long as he doesn't say his trademarked "Oh, Hell no!" I'm fine with Smith.

WIth a movie like this, his character cannot be light heart, but a tortured man. While it doesn't mean he should have a sense of humor, he should be serious. I mean.......he is the last man on earth!

And the flat out ignorance just flows freely, doesn't it? Why is it every time it's announced that a character that's supposed to be white is being played by a black character, someone makes a dumbass comment like this?

Cause it is truth. Can we saw the remake of the Honeymooners?

I'm with Kenk on this, some of the generalizations about Smith are crazy
This is a film where a lead character is on his own for a large portion of the film and is basically in every scene, that needs a STAR someone with charisma who appeals to the masses and Smith is perfect for that plus he is a solid actor and will add some humour which is NOT a crime.

IAL is more of a post-apocalyptic dystopian paranoia/isolation story, like Dawn of the Dead, than a "vampire" story.

Sure, he says "oh hell naw" in all of his movies, but he's also a great actor.
I think "Ali" proved that.

i haven't seen a will smith movie I didn't like except for the I-robot one. Let's hope this comes out good, huh? No bad vibes, my friends.

this is so stupid. Will Smith? I almost guarantee he's gonna be given some real ****ty one liners, like those heard in MIB and Independence Day.

The story doesnt call for that. I've read the other 2 scripts and was disapointed. I liked Logan's script more than Protosevich's script, but still, i didnt really like them.

I don't see why they cant make it as faithful to the book as possible. There's nothing dated about it. It's one of the best, if not THE best Vampire story i've ever read. Vincent Price's "The Last Man On Earth" came pretty close to it, and it's my favorite Price film. But after i read the story, i felt like a newer version, closer to the book, showing the isolation, the span of time, the development of the character, the science of the vampires and how they work...it can make a very awsome, very DIFFERENT kind of vampire film.

not to mention, when reading it, i always had Gary Oldman in my mind for playing the part.

Yeah why Will Smith??????
Lord knows comedians cant play serious roles....
cough cough Jaime Foxx/Ray cough cough

MIB, I'll give you, but just because he has a few one-liners and jokes in the other two films doesn't make them comedies. I think most people would agree the tone overall was serious.

His character is a goofball in both of them, who can hardly be taken seriously. THat's not a bad thing just that his claim held some weight...

By that token, Dukes of Hazzard and Bewitched should have been box office smash hits as the characters' whiteness was preserved!
