I don't think changing things makes the film bad, making him less miserable and adding a dash of humour is fine IMO, If they are gonna do the book verbatim it would be best as a low budget TV serial.

French Joker answered the question pretty well. I'd like to add that the fact that Will Smith is in this. He is simply not convincing as an action hero at all to me. And he's ruined some movies and good.

When I think of this movie, I think of I, Robot, which was a POS. There is not ONE item from this movie that has appealed to me.

Recast the movie and get somebody with the balls to stick to the book completely instead of changing it around to cater to the dumb and I'll be interested.

Well Smith has done quite a few serious film roles. Pursuit of Happyness, Ali, and Six Degrees of Separation come to mind. I also think it's stupid for them to a make a sequel to I Am Legend, especially when you think about the books ending and how well it works.

Hopefully a proper adaptation is made in the future. I've always envisioned I Am Legend being similar to 28 Days Later.

Some of y'all are overreacting. Despite the changes, wait and see the film before you bash it. Even being on a superhero film message board, you should be no stranger to the fact that film adaptations never stick to the source material 100%. There is no reason for anybody to cast that kind of judgment on a film before you even saw the film (Hell, we don't even have a trailer yet, and you already like like that).
