In the Original Script he survies...

What I don't get is...

He was said to have been pissed about the new ending, it was also reported that he gave away the ending in a press conference. Wonder if that was a slip up or done on purpose.:cwink:

Little more clarification
on a sequel.....

Original writer Mark Protosevich pitched the idea of a sequel about 4-5 months ago to WB. Im guessing at that time the original ending was still in place therefore a sequel was possible.

Protosevich Pitches I Am Legend Sequel
Source: Los Angeles Times August 1, 2007

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that original I Am Legend screenwriter Mark Protosevich has already pitched Warner Bros. on a sequel, though no deal has yet been finalized. The Will Smith action-thriller, directed by Francis Lawrence, hits theaters on December 14.

It has been more than a decade since Protosevich wrote an adaptation of Richard Matheson's classic 1954 horror/sci-fi novel about the last man alive after a biological war. Writers were occasionally hired to work on it and over the years, Protosevich was hired four different times to tweak the script, until writer-producer Akiva Goldsman took on the project in 2005 and moved the action from L.A. to New York City.

The newspaper says there is no word yet on how Protosevich plans to extend the story of lone military scientist Robert Neville's struggle to survive against a mutant populace.

i really loved this movie a lot, i didnt really know much going into it, and i was pleased with just about everything. as mentioned numerous times, the scene with samantha in the lab, and the video store scenes really got me (will smith cries very well...) my only change would have been to somehow get the point across in the end that he is 'legend' to the zombie/vamps, overall, a well done movie

Dude, the ending sucked, but it would have been a lot worse had Nevilled survived...

IMO I think the strongest ending would have been after smith let pulled the pin and the grenade went off the movie ended about there, maybe right after the explosion, showing the woman and the kid getting out of that hole. Leaving the ending up to the viewer might have made more of an impact. Showing the woman and kid making it to the camp and handing over the cure seemed to be a little too cookie cutter happy ending. Which also made neville seem more foolish than anything, since he believed that everyone was dead

I absolutely agree.

But audiences need every litlte thing spelled out for them.

I would have prefered the whole 'not knowing what happened to them' ending too.

if Neville doesn't die then the whole story is kind of a wank. plus the whole Legend thing wouldn't make sense. not that i liked the ending in the movie, but it was better than him surviving

Never read the book, and honestly wasn't interested in the movie. I wanted to see Juno and my friend wanted to see I Am Legend so he dragged me into Legend against my will after seeing Juno.

Overall, it was pretty good. Certainly better than what I expected(or maybe due to low expectations). The story was straight forward and action was pretty cool. It was far better than any Resident Evil movie. The suspense parts were good and you gotta love when you're in the theater and an old lady behind you screams every time one of the Death Seekers appears on screen.

And speaking of the vampire zombies, they were much smarter and faster than how I thought they would be. On the downside, the CGI on them wasn't that great. I think it would have been better had they used real actors in prosthetic makeup instead. Oh and I didn't expect Big Willy to [BLACKOUT]bite the dust, and by his own grenade. Didn't make much sense when he easily could have threw the grenade in the hole then jumped in the chute with Anna and the kid and survived.[/BLACKOUT]

already went over that a few pages back...
character arc wise he was done he had no family more importantly no dog and barely knew how to react to people the only thing he was living for was to find a cure remember he was already trying to commit suicide when Anna found and saved him...

so where would then be the ''legend ''part.
in the movie at least they tryed to explain the ''legend'' .
in your ending there would be nothing IMO

I am legend was just another zombie movie. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. Will Smith is a really good actor and he's come along way since the FP days.

I read the book and strangely enough it made me like the movie more than I did before. The book is so much better than the movie, but I also like the movie more than I did before.

The movie already deviated from the book where the Title I am Legend derived from and made the most sense. In the book Neville was a legend to the vampires not the humans where the movies ending made it opposite. Leave it up to the viewer to determine the ending and then the title I am Legend fits for either the humans or the vampires, depending on your belief of whether there really was anyone else or not.
