Iron Man 3 Official Iron Man 3 rate/review thread. - Part 1

I saw it last night at the 9pm showing...excellent, loved it. 9/10. Had no problem with "the twist" and neither did the audience (as a matter of fact they seemed to love it)....a really fun time at the movies.

Pretty much right after the "reveal" about The Mandarin, the movie started to devolve into this slapstick-y mess

The moment I read in the comments section on the main page that this movie is bad becaues it's "filler material" (WTF) and doesn't bring the MCU forward (not even after the credits, OMG!!!) I knew that something's wrong with people. It's called movie. It usually starts and ends, and usually doesn't work like an episode of a TV series. Sorry to dissapoint. I'm fine with different opinions, but people are knocking this movie for many wrong reasons IMHO.

See, I think it was the weakest of the three not just because it felt separate from the MCU, but because it felt separate from the first two Iron Man movies. Mandarin would've been a stronger villain if they'd connected him to the events in Afghanistan or with Hammer. Killian/Mandarin needed a stronger connection to Tony than just "He wouldn't meet me on the roof! Waaaah!!!"

It's frustrating to me because they were SO CLOSE to having an awesome Mandarin. Imagine if Killian didn't just have the fire power of Extremis, but cold, electricity, and maybe seven other effects. If they'd done that, they would have modernized the old, racist Mandarin and replaced him with something completely badass. Add to that the personal connection they could have played up with his involvement with the events of 1 and 2 and you have an incredible villain. Instead, all we got was a hint of how incredible it could have been.

I think people are expecting the solo films to have greater interaction with one and other, essentially they're letting their comic book brains get in the way of judging the film based on what it is. I thought there would be a bigger interaction myself to some degree but it's clear Marvel aren't overly worried about having things be so connected. IM3 is very much a self contained story. I equate it to the James Bond movies, for 40+ years every film was technically in the same universe, but it never really called attention to it and stories rarely crossed over to another film in the series.

I prefer Vanko over Killian in terms of who's the better bad guy. Internally and externally speaking he was really generic.

The thing is, the way the previous movies after Iron Man & The Incredible Hulk were so heavily connected is what kept them from reaching the height of their potential; it really held each character's movie individuality and personality back, in order to teaser The Avengers. It's what broke Iron Man 2, and what made Thor and Captain America feel void and generic; mere pieces of what was to come.

I, myself, grew up first with every possible incarnation of these characters. I'm a comic book reader myself, but people got to take their head out of comics at least once in a while 'cause they're missing the point here.

I won't make that complaint about the movie itself, but the post-credit scenes have historically hinted at future events in the movie-verse and this one just felt like an outtake.

Where's the problem with that? You're going to get your future movies anyway. There's really no need for such gimmicks. The post-credits scene made sense as part of this movie (it has pretty much the same function the very last scene of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang has), while feautring a little cameo.

Maybe Pepper got some lessons from Happy in the boxing ring. Pepper obviously works out with the abs she was flashing in the movie.

I came into this with pretty high expectations from all the positive things I've been hearing and I was severely disappointed. I understand this was Tony's story but does that mean that we get absolutely no character development for any of the othe characters and yet another cheap throwaway villain?

The action scenes don't even make up for it because they we're too quick and not at all impressive. I guess Marvel said "hey guys lets use some of our awesome characters for this movie and waste their potential". Why even have Rhodes if your not going to even use him for the second film in a row. The twist could've been handled a lot better if not taken as a joke and absolutely wasted Kingsley's potential.

The "extremis" felt like a very generic disease that was not explained at all nor was Guy Pearce's characters motivation aside from a quick shoehorned in scene in the beginning of the film.

At the end of the day I think Iron Man 3 will be more like Superman Returns where fans will like it but feel like they should have loved it and for the most part leave Iron Man fans split on their opinion on it. That's how I see it for the most part.

8.7/10 for me, very close to a 9/10 (there was a bit too much emphasis on the action in the 3rd act for my taste), but overall I enjoyed it tremendously and if The Avengers wouldn't exist it would be the best MCU movie to date.
I saw it three times already and I'm planning to watch it again tomorrow. I just can't get enough of it. such a clever, intelligent script for a blockbuster movie is astounding.

This movie will only divide comic book fans ( mainly people like us posting here) the general audience will eat this up like they did previous Iron Man movies as well as the Avengers. Like yesterday, I was in my local comic book shop and there was an disscussion/ arugememt going on with some people about the twist in this and they hadn't seen the movie yet. It was pretty funny as these hot girls walked in look and overheard the conversation and walked out giggling. I am like good going guys .. Girls will never come in here again lol. ( even though its s nice clean place with a coffee shop inside.

I think with most people it just doesn't sit well that Pepper could do such a thing. I don't want movies to spell everything out for me, but at the same time I wasn't going "Oh yeah, Happy Hogan totally taught her that move and gave her that killer instinct.".

I don't see Happy Hogan as being capable of doing such a thing

It just doesn't mesh well with the character. The way she Shoryukens the attacking armor out of the sky, rips off it's arm, throws a missile at Killian and then wears the arm and blows up Killian and the missle using a repulsor blast.

At least thats what I remember happening. It's just too much. [/blackout]

people are too quick to jump to conclusion after the plot twist, comparing IM3 to the likes of Superman Returns, Spiderman , Last Stand etc...
for what it is, IM3 is an awesome and a well made movie, with all the characters getting to shine. I do understand the plot twist will bother a lot of people, but don't let that cloud the judgement of the overall movie...
Killian was at least better and threatening than Vanko or Obadiah...

I've read the Extremis storyline and what they do with it is frankly a disgrace. How Mandarin and Extremis were handled left be apoplectic with rage. I've wanted to see these too storylines since the first IM movie, well, careful what you wish for.

No, the Mandarin's VISUAL aspects were made into a joke, which they have always been, a sick, racist joke. The great aspects and motives of the character were given to the REAL Mandarin in the film, Pearce.
