So...anyone else disappointed that
Tim Curry wasn't playing The Whale this time? That was kind of a bummer, I thought the guy they had playing him this time was doing a bad impression of Curry. I also don't quite understand how he was going to trade places with Monk. Also, were they going to frame Monk for the death of the Governor? That one seemed like a stretch. I'm guessing the Lt. Governor that the Sheriff knew was somehow in on it. With the Governor gone, he would've taken over. Maybe once the Governor was dead, the Lt. Governor would've pardoned Dale "The Whale"?

Oh and if any of that was covered in the show, I probably missed it cause I wasn't watching the last five minutes.

Although im pretty sure Curry wasnt the first to play the whale, I was disappointed he didnt return.

This guy was pretty bad. I liked the guy before Curry the best.

They wanted Monk in prison so he couldn't get out to solve the murder. With the governor dead, the Lt. Governor would let Dale out of prison. Thus Monk would be in prison but Dale be out.

Yeah.

I missed the season finale, i'll have to catch the rerun.

Yeah.

The Lt.Governor was on Dale the Whale's pay roll. He was going to commute his sentence once the governor was assassinated. Monk had nothing to do with that one. It was the final job of the six fingered man.

I was kinda disappointed with this episode. Its not that it was bad. It just felt unneccessary. Everything felt like it could've been wrapped up in fifteen minutes so the rest felt like filler. Like, what was the point of the two parter when you could've just had an extended episode (like they did with the pilot of Psych) and wrapped everything up in the extra 15 minutes, y'know?

Seriously they kept building on Sharona's inability to stay away from her Ex and then a big moment for her was finally walking away from him. Then we come back from one of the season breaks and she all of the sudden decides to leave with him.

Anyways, the season finally has been pretty good so far. I doubt the sheriff is the mastermind, but it'll be interesting to see how he's connected.

In all fairness, there was some build up to it.

In season 2's "Mr. Monk and the Sleeping Suspect" she refuses to go back to him because she realizes he only wants her back so his uncle will give him money again. However, throughout season 3, Benjy can be seen talking to him on the phone at least once (implying that he remained in contact with his son) and then in the season 3 episode "Mr. Monk and the Girl Who Cried Wolf" Trevor was there for her when she thought she was crazy and even took Benjy off of her hands so she could get her life back on track. I'd imagine that is a big event that led to the reconciliation.

Yes, but they needed Monk to be in jail. They knew he would be called upon to examine the murder and could connect it to Dale.

I wonder how many new episodes were shot with him in them? Should they work his real life death into the shows storyline & give his character a final farewell? Monk would be very devistated to say the least.

Stanley Kamel's face was as familiar as his credit list was long.

The ever-employed character actor, late of Monk, where he played the skittish detective's patient psychiatrist, was found dead of a heart attack Tuesday at his Hollywood Hills home, his reps said.

He was 65.

Just last week, Kamel appeared in Los Angeles at a promotional event for USA, Monk's network home. Kamel's Dr. Charles Kroger was a recurring character on the hit cable series.

In a statement, the network said it was "deeply saddened" by his passing.

"Stanley was an amazingly talented and extremely kind man, and an important member of the USA family," the network said. "He will be sorely missed."

Born Jan. 1, 1943, in New Jersey, Kamel was a veteran of the New York stage. He began working in TV in the 1970s, and virtually never stopped. It would almost be easier to list the shows he wasn't on. His résumé included stops at Mission: Impossible; Charlie's Angels; Three's Company; the original Knight Rider; Hill Street Blues; Star Trek: The Next Generation; Cagney & Lacey; Murder, She Wrote; The Golden Girls; ER; The Nanny; 7th Heaven; NYPD Blue and The West Wing.

His most memorable stints included a starring run in the 1970s on daytime soap Days of Our Lives; a turn as mobster Tony Marchette, Dylan McKay's very, very bad father-in-law, on Beverly Hills 90210; and a role as a lawyer with AIDS on L.A. Law.

In a video interview for USA's website, Kamel said the latter was among his favorite roles.

"It was an extraordinary—I don't want to say job—opportunity because as an actor. Of course, I got to go to some very deep places that actors don't always get to go," Kamel said. "But I also think it was very important because no one had seen at that time a character have AIDS."

I'm so sad. I LOVED Dr. Kroger. I wonder what they'll do in the show. Monk always refused to go to another psychiatrist.

Which in itself leads to an episode worth of story. Between pauses in whatever case Monk will prolly be trying new psychiatrists one of which ends up being the culprit

I can't believe the guy was 65, looked really good for his age.

Man that is sad news....RIP Stanley Kamel:(

Looking at his imdb profile you'll see what a great career he had.

I wonder how this will affect the Monk? Dr.Kroger is in my opnion such a crucial part of the show. Replacing Sherona was hard enough as is.

I hate to sound heartless but his death does open up new storyline possibilities.

So, I know were all a little "bat-brained" at the moment...but is anyone else looking forward to the Mr. Monk's return this evening!?!

Only been a few months since the last season...but it seems like ages, no!?

It always feels like forever between the summer half and winter half.

The case was predictable. Loved the way they handled the loss of Stanley Kamel/Kroger :csad: The replacement is also a pretty good choice.

Dr Neven Bell (new psychiatrist) was so familiar to me but I couldn't figure out who it was. I had to check online and remembered it was Hector Elizondo.

The end scene with Monk back in his apartment and opening the window to hear the music and then the camera panning over to a pic of Kroger/Kamel was really nice and well done.

Yeah, that was sad...but still, touching. :waa:

I have always liked Elizond, tho. Very talented. He's replaced/taken over roles for various characters in TV/Film a few times, now...

Solid season-premiere ep, tho!!

That looked like a pretty damn heavy Tombstone, wonder how the chess player managed to switch them.

:woot: haha...

You know, you're right...makes it seem a lot longer. Thus leading to my (argument...) discussion with my roommate over whether or not this series has passed the 100 episode mark, yet.

I couldn't place it for the life of me, but apparently it's coming up in September...hard to believe that it's been close to 100, already!?

That should be a pretty good ep., tho!! Stars galore, I'd wager...

I've only seen Monk a few times and although I really liked it, never got in the habit of watching it. Today they are apparently having a marathon and I caught the episode where his brother calls him to ask for help. This was hilarious. :D Late in the episode Monk rushes to his brothers house because he knows he's in trouble. The house is in flames. Monk knows his brother is still in the house because he's an agorophobe and even the fire won't allow him to leave the house. So Monk goes rushing in, calling his name and anxiously looking around. And then as he's rushing through the house .. oh, this makes me laugh .. he sees a stack of books slightly askew and has to stop to straighten them.

Hilarious. :D

I'm going to get a season pass for this show.

Last night's episode was alright. VERY predictable though.

When Monk started, I loved it. It was quirky and Shalhoub was great in the lead. But after seven seasons, it has gotten really stale, because there has been absolutely no growth. Monk is as paranoid and phobic and Randy is still as clumsy and stupid as in the first episode. Now that I think about, Stottlemeyer and Sharona are the only two characters in the whole show, who've changed. And Sharona left, only to be replaced by another blonde, who after (correct me if I'm wrong) 3 seasons still calls Adrian "Mr. Monk", like he's still nothing more than his boss, not a friend.
