Halo10's review of
Xmen: Days of Future Past:
* I did like and enjoy
Xmen: Days of Future Past; It started out of the gates very strong, fast, explosive, and exciting in the future timeline, and it immediately introduces some of the familiar current Xmen of past films,(professor X, Magneto, Wolverine, Kitty Pryde, Iceman, Beast)
as well as the new Xmen battling in the future. We particularly get to see new- to- the film Xmen characters- and a display of each of their individual powers;Bishop, Blink, Sunspot and War Path. An extra bonus for Xmen fans was finally seeing Iceman completely transforming his entire into complete ice-formand riding his icy-sliding board into battle against the new futuristic mutant-hunting Sentinels.
Speaking of the Sentinels I really loved the look and power-display of the Sentinels both the 70s modern ones, as well as the future ones.
The modern ones were capable of projecting machine gun fire am, possessing powerful strength and flight and ability to sense and identify mutants, while
the future ones not only possess same physical qualities but can also adapt/duplicate the power/capabilities of their mutant enemies and use that power to counter attack them.
In short if you use fire against them, they can counter with sub-zero freeze against you, ..if you use steel/strength against them, they use similar steel/strength vs. you, ..use sub-cold freeze vs. them/extreme heat temp. against you, etc., etc.,
Truth be told, I got more pleasure out of the Sentinels and the character Quicksilver ( played by Evan Peters') than any others in the entire film, ..and that includes the leading character Wolverine. With the hyper-maniacal Quicksilver, he was to Xmen

ays of Future Past as was Nightcrawler was to Xmen:United.
He was quite a humorous delight as well as displaying his super-speed mutant ability, I admit that once his antics got going after introduction, I wanted to see evenmore and more as the film moved on.
I was a bit surprised Storm did not have a bigger role in the film, (especially since its Halle Berry) and especially since there isnt any more of Cyclops or Jean Greysince their demise in Xmen:Last Stand.
Instead we see the teen Kitty Pryde carrying a bigger role than Ororo (Storm) with her usual intangible abilityto phrase through objects, plus director Singer seeking to add time-travel abilities to Prydes powers in this film so that she can send someones consciousness back through time, (Kitty does not have such powers in comics), just as I was going to compare the whole time-travel/hero stops future cyborg assassin to the Terminator saga similarity until this consciousness-traveling thing seems to allow some confusion.
I think it would have suited better to allow some ones physical body to travel (just like Terminator series does) vs. just their mind/mental consciousness run about in time while their body shell remains in another timeline.
Beside the time traveling holes, there are just a few other peeves I had with DOFP, as it definitely isnt perfect. They are times where I thought some plot issues could have been made clearer and explanatory, I thought it was quirky and anti-climactic at the very end with Jean Grey/Cyclops alive (spoiler) and I'm not quite sure the Wolverine/Xavier save the future ploy was quite put together and dramatic as thought it'd could have been. I thought it was confusing for Quicksilver to have a walk-man radio when they were not created in the early 70s.
And DOFP didnt delivered the emotional-moving moments as Xmen:First Class or Xmen:United did. Not having as much flow and superb climatic ending as 1st class/X-United did.
And I thought it would have been much more emotionally moving and connecting to show more human abuse, suffering/anguish, tombstones of past Xmen vs. the very quick shot of a slavery line, body pile. The more that is connected with pain and sorrow displayed, the more empathized and get to me more motivationally revved up for the Xmens successful mission. Also, I couldnt understand having a nude shot of Wolverine earlier in the film in a supposedly PG-13 film.,
But yet there was still much to like about Days of Future Past. I thought it was clever not only to keep the assassination story around Mystique and Magneto (as was depicted in comics), but also include real past presidents (Nixon, Kennedy) into the mix (as opposed to Senator Kelly in the comics) and who appeared in both first two X-men films. In fact the film seem to be more headlined by Mystique/Magneto duo than Wolverine, Xavier.
I liked the display of how Magneto as able to completely able to manipulate the enemys primary secret weapon, stronghold as well as another added massive feature display of his electromagnetic powers (that was somewhat similar to his enormous feats with a massive object in Xmen:1st Class) the Sentinel battles are the headliners, but theres also individual great battles among Magneto, Beast, Mystique, Wolverine. In terms of pure fighting action, CGI special effects, makeup, costumes, etc, it is a special treat to see.
Days of Future Past also gives us a sight/experience of enjoying both old/young Magnetos of past Xmen-films, (Ian McKleenan/Michael Fassbender)as well as both young/old Professor Charles Xaviers (James Avoy/Patrick Stewart) of past films. This was one of the magic offered by Days of Future Past . I did like the 1960s -70s look and appearances (without going too Austin Powers overboard) automobile cars, hair-styles clothes-fashion, TV camera-appearances, etc.
I thought Xmen: Days of Future Past was really good- but not classic-great not one that its stamp in my mind as a legend. As you can imagine from earlier mention, I think Id rate it the
3rd best Xmen film Ive seen and i still rate Captain America:Winter Soldier, a better superhero movie, IMO. But take nothing away from DOFP, I still enjoyed it a lot and rate it high and it's
highly recommendable.
-By the way, please stay put until after the very final credits- an important being in near future Xmen films will be revealed.
On a Scale of
1 to 10 - Id give Xmen

ays of Future Past an
8.0
