Superman Returns Official Rate and Review Superman Returns thread!!!

Well, if Jeffrey Wells, felt the film was great, then we're in for a treat. He doesn't like anything that's commerical (Well, not really but he's a highly critical person when it comes to films such as these. He tends to dismiss them).

This is spectacular news then.

ANd oh, Howellet, Dell probably has no plans to release blue-ray till 2007. So no Christmas PC. I'll keep u updated though as we get closer.

bosef,

Thanks.

Yeah. I tend to not even read most of Wells' reviews of films. I just can't seem to understand his taste at all. He's all over the map. But, with this particular genre and the whole use of CG in the big films today (and films in general), he just tends to dismiss films like these. He's a purist in alot of respects.

He hated the Prequels. Well, I think a lot of that is based on his disdain for Lucas himself. (For the record, I love the Prequels to death, flaws and all.)

He didn't like Lord of the Rings. He especially hated it once Return of the King won Best Picture.

He did love Batman Begins until the final image of Batman flipping over the Joker card.

But again, if he felt the film is great and about SOMETHING, which to me is very important with all films, then we're in for a treat.

Glad that he liked it but I will make my make my decisions when I see it.

wow...he didn't like Batman Begins but he liked Superman Returns huh? well...here's to hoping the film is as good as he's making it out to be.

Dorky,

No, he liked Batman Begins alot actually but he got worried that Nolan's franchise would go the route of the previous franchise by the use of sequels. He was just being cautious to the idea of sequels to a film he deemed very, very good.

I mean, I hate to sound so fanatical and everything, and so presuming, but people...it's Bryan Singer. Superman. His writers. Thomas Newton Siegal.

I mean, as Donner said, "This franchise could not be in better hands."

bosef,

Absolutely. Say what you will, but Singer is proven. He's a storyteller. Pure and simple. He will do it right, as he did with X-Men, X2, and The Usual Suspects.

I mean, Singer has made it perfectly known that the first Superman film and Superman in general had a big impact in his life. Hell, the first X-Men is basically inspired by Superman The Movie. He used that as the template for introducing the world of X-Men to the masses.

I mean, just seeing the MTV clip. People criticize Singer for being "too intense" or too anal, but you can see it pays off in making the movie. I've seen few directors direct such dynamic CGI sequences as we're seeing here. I mean, the way he has the camera move from the baggage falling on people, knocking them up, buidling up the intensity, the look of horrors on the people's faces as he's panning, then the one girl, near-continous pan still, staring out, awed at seeing Superman on the wing and then...out the window, over to Superman, to see the wing snap off -- that is just so amazingly directed and shot and serves a storytelling purpose (fear of death to the awe of Superman as an inspirational icon), serves a visual purpose (its dynamic and kinetic) and serves a emotional purpose (the continual panning allows the tension to build without interruption until finally it snaps -- like the wing).

It's amazing what he's doing here.

And if he didn't like the Batman Begins joker flip, then I'm betting that hte urprise we're in for isn't the "child throwing hte piano" bit.

bosef,

Yeah, I'm think that the surprise is something else entirely as well.

As for Singer, I don't care how he is while directing a film. The end result tends to be great. And that, to me, is what matters most.

The guy knows how to direct a picture. It's just that simple. And given the budget, I'm scared to actually see what he can really do.

Yep. That's what I keep telling people. Singer was always held back with Fox. Now, its completely off. Anyway, I'm off to go take car eof some errands while humming Ottman's new score. (haha, j/k...kind of...)

interesting... i can't believe how close we are to seeing this movie!!!

Awesome! My faith in the film sometimes wanes, but now I think it's at an all time high.

[lex]BRING IT ON[/lex]

The great thing is it´s a very enthusiastic review, the not so great thing is it´s SO enthusiastic it may skyrocket some people´s expectations - can´t please everyone, you know...

God, I can't wait for this movie.

"There's an airborne action sequence in particular that delivered, for me, the greatest sensory thrill I've ever experienced from a mainstream movie in my life. "

Crap on a stick, that sounds phenomenal.

Seriously, I've lost the function to use exclamation points I'm so excited.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

superman fans for the 1st positive review for Superman returns.

Just gonna throw this out there...if a guy who hates everything that other people like, likes this...isn't that a bad indication?

Hehe ;)

I dunno, is generally one of those people who despises anything man kind has done since the Renissance ended. So if he hates everything people like...and likes this, then couldn't one assume people will hate this?
