^I thought Supermans unconscious descent from space was a great climax to the whole NK arc.

Considering the holidaze are upon us, and there may be an influx of people who want to offer their opinion on their recently received SR gift DVD, I thought it would be prudent to give this thread a lil bump.

Maybe Morg or some kind mod can make it a temporary sticky? :)

I don't why I wasn't as excited like with Spider Man 2, and I didn't see this one on the cinema.

I saw it a couple of weeks on DVD. Here are my thoughts:

I like the fact that it was 'nailed' with Superman 1 & 2. Brandon was good casted, I liked his Clark Kent and he worked as Superman.

The BAD things:

I absolutely hate the Lex Luthor character (Kevin Spacey is a GREAT actor, nothing against him). PLEASE BRING A GOOD VILLAIN FOR SUPERMAN!!! Geeezzzzzzzz Im bored with him. Kill the f****** guy!!!

No action scenes. There were NO action scenes.

For the second one, bring Brainiac dude! Singer made an excellent job with Xmen... but...

5/10

I can't believe I didn't give this a rating before. I give it a 6/10. It certainly doesn't deserve a 10 or 1 though. Sorry. The only Superman movies that deserve that much praise is the first two with Christopher Reeve.

i just ran across this thread today. i agree with most of the review except for one thing. i stated this on other posts and threads; that i don't see how he is being seen as suddenly a deadbeat dad. when it is clearly shown until the end of the movie that as far as anyone is concerned jason is richard's son not supes. the only person that knows otherwise is lois, since she is jason's mother, and she has done everything to conceal this for a moment even from supes. i can see calling supes a deadbeat dad if he actually know from the beginning that lois was pregnant and still went to krypton for 5 years anyway....but he has no idea that jason existed until he came back to the daily planet. if you watch his expression while looking at the picture of lois, jason, and richard he is trying figure out one who are they and where did they come from. besides, it is pretty obvious he didn't know because if he did supes never would have left earth in the first place. if any reason supes should be getting chowed out is for leaving lois without telling her the truth and saying goodbye; which he apologizes for in the first have of the movie. as for usurping richard place in jason's life never happens especially after supes and lois meet on the roof; if anything richard and supes are trying stay out of the others way, little clumsily considering how awkward the whole situation is. there were problems within the realm of writing 101 but nothing that couldn't be fixed. and jason's secret could've been saved for the sequel. the one thing i didn't get was while supes was getting the hell beat of him; was the line "i'm still superman" there was no purpose for the that statement at all. this would likely make his character look bad not everything else. inspite of the problems sr was very good movie that's why i give it a 9 overall.

P.S.: giving him a family; one he has gain back and ultimately protect adds more depth to the conflict of choosing between those he loves and his duty and responsibility as the man of steel. a conflict that began the moment he fell in love with lois lane.

i wanted a narrative that really dived into the articles lois wrote in the film, the whole why we need/don't need a superman. and I wanted a film that dealt with the resentment of the world... he left. he went away... and what if 9/11 (or some similar disaster) had happened in his absence? something huge and culture-altering that his absence permitted. that was something I really wanted to see superman returns tackle.

I just saw SR after one year and a half. And I did it with all the criticism in my mind, a little afraid that the experience wouldn't be the same.

But no.

SR still stands out for me as one of the most beautiful and heartfelt superhero movies out there. The same details that bothered me before are there but in the end the good things outnumbered the bad.

4.5/5

I am a big fan of these movie and while I could have did with a little more action the theme of the movie was Superman Returns...it dealt more with his return to Metropolis and how he fit into everyone's life. Deadbeat dad plot had to do with Kal-El looking for more of his kind...remember in Superman 2 he was pretty much told he couldnt be with Lois.

Definately, re-watched it myself for the first time in a while on Sunday, and on blu-ray, and not only did the movie look more gorgeous than ever, but the heart and emotion was still there, I would take that over action scene's anyday, action always comes 2nd to heart and emotion for me no matter how good the action is.

Same here. Lots of great action but nothing else wpon't cut it. SR made me feel I finally got to know who Superman is and how he feels.
