Its cute to see some of your attacking the negative reviews...lol.

*checks Rotten Tomatoes*

Well now it's 37 reviews and a meter of 78%. I don't think it will end up with the reviews of either Spidey flick or X2, but it'll probably finish off at about 80% there.

David Poland is another noteworthy critic whose opinion some may value, and he reviewed SR VERY negatively.

Polands review is an absolute joke though.

I dont think any of these online reviews will have an impact on the audiences or people who want to see the film at large.

Right now the media basically makes it sound like SR reviews are extremely positive (which overall they are)..

This is in contrast to the media saying the Davinici Code reviews were bad.

But ya, right now....theyre giving the impression to the mainstream audience that the reviews are stellar.

I "saw" you put up a score on the poll two days ago! Durr!!

I predict a nice opening week, followed by a pretty sharp drop off. The movie runs a little too long for the average moviegoer, and the 3rd act is a bloody mess.

POTC2 will trounce this one, I'm afraid.

The movie had some greatness I think. Just about everything that SUPERMAN himself did was amazing, he did some stuff that I really thought was great.

What I didnt like: The story seemed to be a bit all over the place. I know that we are supposed to have this long standing connection with the characters because of the other movies and stuff.... but these are not the characters from the other movies. I thought that Lois and Mrs. Kent were just kind of introduced with little ceremony, non fans arent gonna care when they first pop up on screen.

What Impressed me: Routh. He rocked, he looked huge in the suit, his acting was good... he was fine, no complaints.... but this leads me to my next point.

The Suit: Not horrible, but it suffered from some really minor changes they made that still make no sense to me, the colors and the neckline being the two biggest ones. Set against the often dreary tone of the movie I would have loved to see Superman's vibrant red all over the place, not a huge deal though.

Perry White- Waste of a character. He was portrayed so lovingly in STM, but Langella was just kind of there....... also doesnt help to compare him to JJJ from Spidey who just rocks.

All in all, not bad. Not the Superman movie i've been waiting my whole life for. I enjoyed it.... i'll see it again, im very interested where they take it from here.

Question for the people who saw it already:

Do we have to see Superman 1 and 2 before watching Superman Returns to appreciate this film???

I think so. It piggy backs a lot, more than I thought. Its a sequel. You dont ABSOLUTELY HAVE to have seen them....... i mean, most people know "Lex is bad, Superman loves Lois". But in order to even "mostly" appreciate it i'd say you have to know the originals.

Good review.

Dude, you're a Knight?? No flippin' way! I'll be a freshman in August. :D

Awesome, I graduated in December... you're gonna love it...... The 3rd floor of the student union is a nice place to take a nap, plus there's a TV room in there.

I think that after the story of the "budget script". Moriarty was involuntary put in the classic "POTC2VsSR" fanboys war.
IMO it's really difficult for him to write an impartial review.

Not remotely.

And the "budget script" was pretty much verbatim the finished film. Talk about spin control. "Oh, no, that's not what we shot."

Yeah. It was. Almost exactly.

Having said that, there's a lot to like about the movie. I understand that anything I write will be heavily politicized by fanboys because they will not be able to understand that a mixed review is not a negative review, and that seeing the film is different than reading a script and some people are capable of having individual reactions to each experience.

Do me a favor, though. If you really can't imagine that someone could watch the film and judge it as a film, then don't read my review. And don't harp about secret agendas and other such nonsense here, because frankly, I'm repulsed by the way people have tried to project their own feelings onto me throughout the entire build-up to this movie's release.

Hey Drew--I'm guessing this means the review is live? I mean, we know it's going to be mixed, now, but is it up?

Not yet, Fatboy.

I'll actually hold off until I finish my IMAX 3D screening tomorrow to see what I feel that experience adds to the film.

I'm giving this film every possible chance to win me over, and anyone who says otherwise is just plain wrong.

LOL. That's dedication, right there.

Were there moments in the film that you thought played rough in the script that actually felt better up on screen? or vice versa?

Drew is a good critic I dont believe him to be tainted in his opinions. I'm glad he called B.S on certain allegations.

Hey Drew, do you think that a casual Superman fan (i.e. Fan of superman 1&2 but not really a fan of the comics) will like it. I think it looks great but I admit to having only read the Death and Return of Superman comics. But I love the first movie a lot.

So are you still pretty "Meh" to SR even after your previous screening (I got the ipression you have seen it already), hoping a gimmick will have to add something to it? Or you just want to see it in full on IMAX 3D? I guess you seeing it twice is a good sign?
