Yes. I would say it is.

The whole reason Lex finds the Fortress of Solitude is because he has been there before. This is clearly stated in the movie.

I doubt that.

In prequel comic three. He was in the arctic during the vague history of Superman 1, before he met Superman... he discovered pieces of Kryptonite there also.

Hey. It. Was. The. Freakin. 70's.

That's how they saw it back then. They didn't have legions of fans *****ing on the internet to make Superman as cool as possible.
When you're comparin Superman to Superman returns. you're not just comparing movies.
You're comparin eras. :)

@Strange. As I mentioned, I like it that they showed him having a beer with a friend. He seemed more real

Well Duh.

Thats why I'll always prefer Brandon's portrayal to Chris Reeve.

Brandon has more potential in these films to play something more deep and serious then Chris ever did, Chris was playing this one dimensional boyscout.

I'm sure Chris could have played the roles in the way Brandon gets too, the point is....he didnt, and thus Brandon has that advantage.

I didn't mean 'sound' as in personality voice... I meant same tone of voice. 'sound-alike'

Routh has a deeper voice all toghether than Tobey. Routh's Clark could be compared to Tobey's Peter but deeper and less whiny.

Terry,

As I understand it, Raimi prefers MJ over Gwen. And yet, like you said, she shows up in part three. It'll be interesting to see what he does with it.

Also, another small nitpick with the first film is the organic webshooters. Brilliant idea but it takes away from Peter's brilliance in science. That was one aspect of Peter that I always liked. While he was mutated, he still had the smarts to make equipment for himself. I miss the webshooters and I'm not even a reader of the comic.

This was happening in the Fortress of solitude and he knew exactly where the control panel was, how to activate it and what crystals to get.
The only problem that I have with that scene and that might contradict the idea of it being a sequel is that when Jor El starts talking Lex goes:

"Ah, he thinks I'm his son!"
And as far as i know Lex did talk to Jor El in Superman II so he would know what would happen. Unless maybe he was trying to keep up apearances for his posse, but I don't know why he would do that.

I know the entire cast is locked up, I was just pointing out that expect more Supes/Luthor conflicts since Spacey is returning for the next two flicks (along with everyone else).

J, I know about that scene, I was talking about there not being a scene with them together after that. In the first movie, you see Supes taking Les (and Otis) to prison. I hear the new movie ends with Luthor on an island.

I actually like Peter's organic web-shooters, but I do agree that we don't see nearly enough of Peter's brilliance as a scientist in the movies. Kinda like you rarely see Batman doing a lot of "detective" work in the first four movies.

Guys, fill me in. Name the top three in Superman's Rogues Gallery. I don't read the comic and I'm kind of curious to see what we might get in the sequel....

Well, in the Donner Cut we'll see later this year, I think Lex does in fact talk to Jor-El, but I might be mistaken....

But, even if you take into account the theatrical version of Superman II, Lex probably spent hours in the Fortress and you can easily say that he may have talked to Jor-El too.

Well what do you want? in terms of fame? Coolness? How well the idea might work in a movie?

Well theres one explanation to solve all of that. VAGUE history. Some details are the same, some have changed.

The prequel comics and Steven Bender scenes show some evidence of changes.

It doesnt even seem like Zod even appeared. Lex was in prison for 5 years right after the events of the end of Superman 1 according to the comic.

But they changed something and show him in the arctic prior to meeting Supes for the first time.....

Correct, there are no events from Superman II in Prequel #3. At this rate, S2 doesn't appear to be in continuity (Like Singer said), so it hinges on Lois' issue. That one may have some ties to S2. Although, It's highly unlikely. Everyone in the film was tied to the events of the Zod Gang. Without them, Superman would still be powerless (No reason to get his powers back). So that means Superman couild not have slept with Lois, as Lara tells him in S2: "If you want to live with one of them, you must become one of them."

And no evidence of the Zod Gang, because if S2 was still in continuity, the Luthor issue would show him interacting with them as per the movie, but it was non-existant. So, unless they're going to HEAVILY rewrite the events of S2 (Which would be useless) so that it fits, it's not in continuity. Which means Lois and Clark didn't sleep together (I refuse to believe Singer would propose such an event happened off screen) and Luthor has never been to the Fortress.

I'm not a big reader of the Superman comics, but Brainiac, Darkseid, and Metallo are the villains I hear the most about.

Perhaps that was supposed to be where he got the Kryptonite from S:TM, Addis Abbaba? But changed to be in the arctic now?

LadyVader,

The top three that constantly give Superman fits....the most dramatic in terms of story for Superman...

And i think Parasite could work in a movie. Maybe in the same role that Sandman has on S3.

Well then, like the man said

Lex

Brainiac

Darkside

There's also Doomsday who got to kill him, and I say that's pretty dramatic. You have any idea how marketable this idea is!? :) They guy that killed Superman. Fanboys in the millions will want to see that fight on the big screen. Give them multiple geekgasms.

Then there's Parasite, whom I just think is very cool and MEtallo. They could be semi-villains or henchmen. And then there's Lobo. Whom I don't think can fit in a movie simply because there is no way they can find an actor good enough for Lobo. :) And I won't have any wrestlers, thank you,

Well if Lex never went to the Fortress before he sure didn't have any problems operating the crystals, it was almost like he had been there before and done it already. Again Singer said this was a vague history, so who knows what that means.

Yep for good reason. Because that means he could have discovered the FOS at that point also.....

Instead of Superman II.

He just never got a chance to raid it of all its technology since Superman had Lex incarcerated.

Superman II is a part of the continuity. There are story moments within this story that are a direct result of Superman II...Luthor knowing the Fortress being one of them.

Heres the thing;

remember that scene from S2 where Lex and Teshmacher land in the fortress towards the beginning of the movie and learn about it.

Now, place that in STM before he meets Superman for the first time...

But his primary reason for going to the arctic was to discover Kryptonite, he did find it there according to prequel comic 3.

So it all fits.

The signs are pointing to S2 not being in continuity (And Singer said it isn't now, anyway). I haven't seen the film, but I don't believe you have either. In the context of the film, I'm sure he's going to act like this is his first time to the Fortress. And some people have said he acts surprised when Jor-El speaks, saying: "He thinks I'm his son."

If he had been there before and worked it in S2, why would he seem so surprised?

More logic to make my theory fit; in STM. Lex knew alot about Krypton, when it exploded etc....that seemed very implausible.

However, Lex learning some of this from those fortress crystal as he tried them out (like at the beginning of S2) makes that knowlegde more easily and practically obtained.

Could be, I've got the comic but have not read it yet. Hopefully if Singer, Mike and Dan will answer some of these questions on the DVD. I thought the comics were supposed to answer them but I still have not read them all yet.

Superman II can still be in continuity. Sure, he learned alot about Krypton in the first film but he specifically deals with the Crystal Technology in this film. The only way he can do that is by having seen them personally work sometime before he went to prison....hence Superman II.

Now, with this film, you technically don't need Superman The Movie or Part II to totally understand everything.

I mean, we could all make up our own events prior to the start of this story. Yet, it's easier if we say that it takes place five years after Superman II. The tone and spirit of the story is very much Donner's original film.
