My friend who works in the corporate offices of one of the bigger chains of theaters in this county relayed to me that POTC is more then likely going to smash Spidey 3's record. He did say the one thing that could happen is a smaller sunday compared to a huge Memorial Day. But damn, i wish he would have gave me some numbers to see what each threater is racking in.

This could be a close to 400 WW 4 day weekend. Wouldn't suprise me. Many underestimated POTC 2 also. It's going to make between 180, and 190 domestic.

Here at the local theater, they are sold out thru Thursday. 20,400 tickets. $ 142,800 in ticket sales.

As a movie fan, i am kinda happy to see the box office going way up this month. I think it's a good sign for the rest of the summer. What kinda sucks though is, since all these movies are making money, it means the next ten years they will be hashing out the same **** until something original comes on, and they make 30 sequels outta that.

There will always be sequels, that's just the nature of the beast, and since people keep seeing these sequels they will always be made. But this year has to take the cake for the amount of sequels in a year. I mean, the summer is mostly filled with them. lol.

And FF:Rise of The Silver Surfer is 3 weeks away. :woot:

I can't wait for that one either, even though I am weary of the runtime, I still look forward to seeing the SS on the big screen, plus the production values look top notch! :word:

I just saw At words end. Wow!! Its longer than spidey but i enjoyed the whole thing where as I felt spidey dragged so much!!

Lets go Barbossa make spidey walk the plank!!!

So does it look like Pirates will breka spidey's record???

I, personally, think Spidey's record is safe, but it will get really close.

Some will say yes I say hell no. It has been confirmed that Thursdays 8PM showing will NOT count toward the weekend income so it doesn't look like it will take the three day income of Spiderman down to me. I think it will get the 4 day record though.

Aloha,
Okay let's stay on track. Spidey one $403.7 million domestic-$821.7 million WW
Spidey 2 $373.6 Domestic-$783.8 WW
Spidey 3 $289.6 Domestic-$756.6 WW in three weeks. This is about the Spider-Man franchise establishing Spidey as the Number One Comic Book Movie. The fact that a comic book movie can compete with regular Hollywood blockbusters and movie stars is what's so important. Any director making a comic book movie MUST study from the Spider-Man Bible-The book of Raimi:woot: Spidey 3 will hit the $300 million domestic this weekend.Pirates was expected to do great but I honestly believe that the summer competition with FF,Transformers, Harry Potter etc, will cut into Shrek and Pirates-much more than into Spidey.Let's keep supporting our guy. Let's hold onto those records. As long as no other comic book movie takes the records.....................
Spidey still rules

Let me tell you something. We are a community of about 42,000 population. So 19,600 tickets sold out of 42,000 people, well you do the math. 46.6 %. I can only imagine what the big citys are doing.

I saw it tonight in NYC on 42nd St, where there are two big movie theaters. The AMC has 25 screens, the Regal has 13. Spiderman is playing at the AMC, and POTC at the Regal. There were 37 POTC shows today alone, through 2am. And I saw plenty of SOLD OUT signs flashing at the box office when I was leaving the theater.

I really don't care who *wins* the weekend record, because I loved both movies...but I have to say POTC was amazingly good. I'm definitely going back to see it again this weekend.

Pirates Weekend flops HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

106 millions :whatever:

EXCLUSIVE EARLY ESTIMATES: 'Pirates' disappoints! 'AWE' w/$40M Friday; $105.5M 3-day; $127.5M 4-day; Estimated 4 1/2-day take of $144.5M

FRIDAY PM: Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (Buena Vista) is a great, big, monstrous hit, but fanboys may be a little let down by its Friday take of an estimated $40M. This is a terrific number, but it may not even rate as one of the all-time top 10 single day grosses, lagging far behind the May 4 opening day of Spider-Man 3 (Sony), last summer’s Pirates 2 opening day and SM3’s May 5 opening Saturday.

SHAZAM!!!!!!!!!!:woot: :woot: :woot:

I would take that estimate with a grain of salt for the time being. He might get the Friday take right but the weekend prediction is a bit low. That prediction is putting it on par with X3 and POTC is a more popular franchise.

Wait till mojo puts up the estimates, then be either happy or sad at the outcome.

If the 40 million friday is correct than I predict the weekend to be around 115 - 120

As much as I hate the POTC franchise (Mostly because I am not a 13 year old girl) I highly doubt friday was a 40M day I would guess it's probably more around 45-55

Well....communities that small don't have anything else to do but go to the movies, I guess.

I can think of 10 other things to do tonight than watch that worthless pile of crap called Pirates

Shrek and Pirates are getting killed by the crities. These movies won't have legs close to what their previous entries had.
we'll see. dmc was killed by the critics, yet had very good legs. and sm3 didn't recieve good reviews as well.
pirates will outgross sm3 both domestically and WW.

I think it's debatable. I think POTC has a chance to 'outgross' SM3 but it certainly is not for sure.

I hope it doesn't given that the POTC franchise makes a lot of money of bad writing, moderate acting, and Two guys that girls like to swoon over.

i love pirates, and i am not a 13 year old girl.

I agree with you that its prolly more, and I will not be at all surprised if it does break spidey 3's record opening.
I have no horse in this race though so it matters not to me.

I doubt it will break the record. It has a chance but very doubtful.

If this is the case, I am plesently suprised. :yay: I guess Disney outsmarted themselfs by opening on Thursday. Add that $ 17 to 20 million on Friday, and you have $ 57 to 60 million opening day, then it is a whole different ballgame.

It's already been said that Thursday's take will not be included with Fridays

So it seems the 40, give or take, million number is correct according to notfabio over at HSX. It will probably be around 42 including midnight-3am showings for Friday. So a 115-125 3 day is where it is headed as someone said earlier. That's a very good opening, well depending on how people look at it. So I'm pretty sure Spidey will be safe this weekend. ;)

I know it will not, but if it had not opened Thursday, and had the 1st showings at midnight, the 3 day figures, would look different.

Maybe and maybe not. I mean they would for sure look different but it might not be by that much because even though everyone would of been forced to see it on Friday and not Thursday there would not of been two extra showing on Friday to make up for the missing Thursday
