Box Office predictions thread-2007 Edition

4 months later....and my opinion hasn't changed. SM3. All the way. And stuff.

Domestically (US):

- Spider-Man 3.
- POTC: At World's End.

Worldwide/Overseas:

- Spider-Man 3.
- POTC: At World's End.
- Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix.

I will stand by this...

I honestly think POTC 3 will be as successful as POTC 2 (its $400 million gross caught me completely by surprise), judging by the audience reaction. Which means POTC 3 will most likely be the highest-grossing movie of the year, but then again, it could be lower. (My estimated opening day gross for POTC 3 will be $60 million, and maybe a $450 million domestic gross by the time it's done.)

I really don't think why people are thinking Spider-Man 3 will emerge the ultimate box-office champ, when there is heavy competition after it. I think Spider-Man 3 will easily hold its own, although I don't think it'll reach $400 million like the first one did. I think it'll do Spider-Man 2 numbers, around $300-$375 million tops.

I'm not so sure about Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix -- I am positive that it'll make over $200 million, but considering the yo-yo-ing success of each film (HP 1 = $311 million, HP 2 = $260 million, HP 3 = $249 million, HP 4 = $290 million) I really can't pin down a specific number. But I guess that since HP 4 enticed more people, I guess the films' popularity is going back up and perhaps a $300 million gross, if it's lucky. (I will see the movie and hope the best, though.)

Since it's a Pixar movie, Ratatouille will bring in the dough as well, and also Dreamworks's Shrek 3. I'm not so sure about Ocean's 13, Evan Almighty, Transformers, Fantastic Four 2 and The Simpsons Movie.

You know, call me crazy but one movie you left off of here could do insanely well, and that is The Simpsons. Even if it has declined in quality over the years it is still insanely popular and a TITANIC pop-culture icon. It could very well fly under everyone's radar into first place.

If not, it is a battle between Pirates and Spidey for domestic.

I hope the best for all the movies, all i care about is if I like them and i tend to like most of them regardless of the BO or what the critics say. I mean i do like some more than others but if a movie is enjoyable than thats alright with me.

But if we really wanted to make this enticing we could all pick a winner and then whomevers movie flops they have to stay off of the boards.

oh and I hate shrek

Harry Potter: OFTP - Its Harry Potter :D
Spiderman 3 - Its Spiderman :D
F4 2 - I think is going to be a suprise. Most peeps thought the first one sucked. I liked it, but I think people will give it another chance.
Transformers - Giant Robots..damn!
POTC - Long movies, you have to love them though

I don't think Shrek 3 will do good. Just my opinion though.

Shrek the third will be a mega hit.......The second one came out the same year the great Spider-man 2 came out......not even spidey could touch it....
Spider-man will be at number # 2,POTC # 3,Harry potter of course is about as big as it can get now

Evan Almighty looks like anothe rbig flop for poor Universal Pictures :dwon

What about Zodiac, I think it will make something between $100m and $120m.

Yeah, it's not summer blockbuster, but still it has already it's auidience.

What I mean saying "it's audience"?

I guess movies like Se7en and Fight Club were enough great to have it's fanbase. So Fincher will again prove that he is goddamn excellent director

I doubt The Simpsons will make anything close to $200m, but still it really has potential to get to high numbers.

Early opening weekend predictions from Box Office Report:

Spider-Man 3: $140 million
Shrek the Third: $100 million
Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End: $160 million

This is shocking to me that SM3 has this much a land slide. I have no doubt it will be a horse race. Do not count out Harry Potter 5, Pirates 3 and Shrek 3. Transformers could surprise people. Its however likely that The one to beat Spiderman 3 at the box office could only be Harry Potter, Pirates 3 or Shrek 3.

This is my order.
1 Pirates 3. 325 million.
2 Shrek 3. 305 million.
3 Spiderman 3. 300 million
4 Harry Potter 5 275 million.
5 Transformers 230 MILLION.
6 The Bourne Ultimantum 213 million.
7 Simpsons The Movie 199 million.
8 FF 2 175 million.
9 Live Free and Die Hard 140 million.
10 TMNT 125 Million.

... damn

Yeah, shocking numbers, aren't they? Realistic numbers? Who knows. I remember when they predicted $120 million for POTC 2 last year. And most people were like "no way it will make that much". And we all know what happened... :)

I don't think Pirates and Shrek 3 will make as big a rake in doe opening weekend as Pirates and Shrek 2 did. Spiderman could win the opening weekend thing but it ain't going to beat DMC weeken numbers. Sorry if that were so Spiderman 2 would have made more then Spiderman 1. I think Pirates and Shrek will split the boc office but still generate the biggest memorial day weekend numbers ever. I say Spiderman 3 Will make about 98 million opening weekend and Pirates 3 and Shrek 3 will make about 115 the other 110. They would of made more but i think these will cancel out each other. But they will have staying power. But i think these 3 won't break 400 million. When each film is said and done. I'd rather see 3 good movies then three juggernauts.

$160m for POTC3? that's impossible. Why?

1) All POTC hype right now is going down.

2) It won't make so much money, even if it makes $50m in all three days of opening weekeend.

My guess is Spidey 3, it has all chances to get to $140m OW and become #1 in domestic top.

Potter will win WW, I have no doubt at all now the last book is being released a week after. The hype will never be higher than it's gonna get this July.

What kind of logic is that?

I say Spiderman 3 Will make about 98 million opening weekend

I understand that's just your personal prediction, but I'd be willing to wager my life that the film will make at least $110 million in its opening weekend. And I'm not spittin' hyperbole.

Yes
Yes
Hell no.

To make $160 million over a three day weekend, the film would need to average over $50 million a day. That's friggin' bogus.

Agreed, though I don't like so much HP movies, still they make very high BO numbers.

Spidey 2 made less in it's OW than Spidey 1 only because of wrong release date (in July summer blockbusters usually make less than in May) and not right release time for theatrical trailer. April isn't so hot month for movie promotion.

Uh, AND it was released on a Wednesday.

Exactly. As I see, Friday is better day for opening than Wednesday. Besides July wasn't the best month for such big shark as Spidey 2.

Just look at numbers of movies like MIB2, T3, WOTW, SR... Spidey 2 looks like the best one (except POTC2, which actually was released on Friday of July's second week).

Ummm, the reason why the WB chose to release OOTP on July 13 because they want to avoid most of the competition (which comes out in May and June). Plus, I'll bet that they moved it to hope for a POTC 2-sized gross domestically, which won't happen. But considering that the book is coming out a week after the fifth movie is released, it could gross $300 million due to the hype. Who knows, maybe more.
