After seeing Pirates last night, I hope it doesn't come close to Spiderman

and they are saying that the 17M for yesterday was wrong and it was actually only 14M

Well, that dude from HSX reported like 21.6 million for Thursday and early Friday shows (midnight, 3 am, etc). Usually he is right since he has access to the numbers, but we'll see today with the estimates from BOM.

Hmm, ok, BOM has the estimates up for POTC, guess everyone was over predicting a bit here, 14 million for Thursday and 43 million for Friday. It's a good start, but I know a lot of POTC fans will be disappointed with those numbers.

I think the main reason Friday's numbers are down is because people started seeing it on Thursday. When you combine Thursday night and Friday, it's almost even...and the reason it's a little less is probably because Spiderman was nearly 30 minutes shorter.

My sources are never wrong, they were right about the U.S. finally catching Osama Bin Laden making love to a goat in Jalabad, and they'll be right about this. 164-169 opening weekend for Pirates 3...guaranteed.

Spidey might have a chance to beat pirates. If it has a 115-120 weekend and drops 50% next wk. This movie could be in trouble. Thier is a lot of competition with Lucky you Coming FF42 and Spidey and Shrek still out. Its legs will be cut by the competition. Spidey was lucky to get out of the gate first.

Hmm...$3.8 for Spidey, meaning probably $5 million on Saturday (if that) and then backt o about $3.5 million on Sunday--and about $3 million for Monday because of the holiday. So that's...$15.3 million for the weekend.

Now I'm starting to question if it has the legs for $350 million.

take a look at the numbers even with Thursdays numbers being combined with fridays Pirates still didn't beat the 59 million Spiderman took in..and it opened late on Thursday not midnight.

Pirates is opening on a huge weekend and I bet the friday Saturday and Sunday numbers don't push past 150 million...and expect a huge drop off next weekend

Unless Pirates 3 scores a huge Saturday increase, SM 3 should hold onto the 3-day opening record. Still, Pirates 3 is on track for the second biggest 3-day opening ever, so that's nothing to sneeze at. It's way to early to say which film will end up with the bigger gross.

Looks like Shrek the Third's second weekend drop is going to be very steep by the usually leggy standard of animated films. SM 3's chances at passing $ 350 mil are also looking increasingly shaky, although its stellar international numbers are certainly making up for its short domestic legs.

GL,as always your very insightful. t: Yes SM 3 is 61.4 % overseas. 38.6 % domestic. In fact, this is the most lopsided of the 3 movies. The 1st 2 ran close to 50-50.

I really hope the film makes atleast over 320M Domestic. I think by the end of the summer it will have made that or more.

So, Pirates made $57 over Friday and Thursday night, and Spidey outgrossed it on just its friday.

Good for Spidey (which was much better than AWE anyway). 3 day record should stand, and I hope Pirates has a smaller Sat than Spidey, too (though it should have a bigger Sunday).
