Guys, Knocked Up called it as well... SM3 movie of the year! :)

Those who saw Knocked Up know what I mean...

Almost every single character in that film saw Spider-Man 3 and loves Spider-Man! It was fcking great!

Even James Franco makes a great hilarious cameo-promoting... SPIDER-MAN 3!!!

BTW, Knocked Up is definitely ranked as another one of my favorite films of the summer- probably tied with SM3. It was just a really good and HILARIOUS film. Plus, hey- SM3 fans, our movie is being celebrated in it! What more can you ask for?

Uh, you care to explain this, I'm not into movies like Knocked Up?

Visionary, what was with that crazy post in the Pete's Major thread?

Knocked Up: The new comedy that just premiered tonight, from the guy who brought us The 40-Year Old Virgin.

Knocked Up basically chose to promote Spider-Man 3 throughout the entire film. Which was unexpected and fckin' awesome for every SM3 fan in the audience.

1. Practically every character mentions going to see Spider-Man 3.
2. One of the characters says that they love Spider-Man.
3. James Franco shows up to give an E! interview, cameo, to promote Spider-Man 3

3- Katherine Heigl's character, Alison Scott, works for E!

Damn, Knocked up is at a strong 92% on rottentomatoes.com

It's gonna be big, if it doesn't open huge, it'll have great legs.

^Well it looks like critics are looking for something fresh this summer...instead of old played out trilogies and sequels. I will see this tomorrow and hope it is good.

^You have strayed your humble believers...now they will go start tutelage under Weyseed.

Of course Piratesmojo.com has to have the highest estimates. Pirates wont hit 50 mil this weekend.

According to Fantasy Moguls SM3 will grap around 7 million this weekend with a 1.9 million Friday estimate. 317.6 million cume.

EXCLUSIVE EARLY FRIDAY & 3-DAY ESTIMATES: 'Pirates' with an estimated $12.75M Friday and a sub-$45M weekend; 'Shrek' and 'Knocked Up' in a photo finish for #2

by Steve Mason

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (Buena Vista) continues to under-perform the other May “three-quels” Spider-Man 3 (Sony) and Shrek the Third (Dreamworks/Paramount). Captain Jack managed to drum up only an estimated $12.75M today (Friday, 6/1), which will translate to a surprisingly soft $43M for the 3-day weekend.

Whereas Spider-Man 3’s second weekend was the all-time 4th-best at $58.1M and Shrek the Third registered the all-time 9th-best second weekend in movie history with $53M, the third chapter of Gore Verbinski’s Pirates has suffered a succession of dramatic daily drops in business, and now, it will likely manage no better than the 19th-best weekend #2 in history.

It’s been a rough week for Disney. Sony cried foul on the way that Disney calculated international numbers for P3: AWE, and they ultimately shifted $3M from their reported $17M in Thursday night business into the opening Friday take. It will be tough to spin this weekend’s numbers. The worldwide box office will ensure that the movie pays for itself, but it seems unlikely that Jerry Bruckheimer, Gore Verbinski and Disney will be mounting a push for a Pirates 4 anytime soon, despite reports to the contrary.

Meanwhile, Judd Apatow’s critically-acclaimed Knocked Up (Universal) grabbed an estimated $8.9M on opening day, and it should bank an approximate $25.5M by Monday morning. That’s somewhat stronger than the $21.4M for Apatow’s surprise hit The 40 Year-Old Virgin, but softer than the $39.1M opening for Universal’s The Break-Up on the same weekend last year.

Well, it doesn´t seem likely to either Shrek 3 or POTC3 to equal SM3´s performance in the domestic BO. Sure Spidey benefitted from its release date, but if people perceived these movies as better, they probably wouldn´t be so frontloaded.

Oh, and cool to see Knocked Up is opening so well. Apatow´s the man!

Uhhhh...I saw Knocked Up last night, and none of the characters said anything really about the movie other than the fact they were seeing it. They got James Franco to do a cameo, but the scene was more about Katherine Heigl's morning sickness (and he's also friends with Seth Rogen--they worked on "Freaks and Geeks" together).

It was a cool idea to reference a current movie a few times, but they didn't do much beyond mentioning it randomly a few times.

Funny movie, though.

Pfft...$1.9 on Friday? Looks like about $7 million for the weekend then.

I am SHOCKED at Pirates performance. They should have waited another year or two to release AWE There is no obviously not nearly as much hunger to see the third film as there was the second, which made $435 million.

Pirates 3 will be lucky to get $350 million.

^You have strayed your humble believers...now they will go start tutelage under Weyseed.

Please don't put words like "humble" and "Weyseed" in the same sentence. It makes this simple world a little more cynical, and definitely a whole lot more confusing than it already is.

hehehe.

I'm wondering this and I like everyone's opinion. Will Spidey 3 be the top grossing film of the year? If worse comes tot worse,I see it finishing second behing Pirates. Although,Transformers may have a huge run.
I think it will be above POTC3 but thats just my opinion. I really think that first place is going to go to Spidey3 because it really should have it after all the money it has grossed.

Wasn't expecting Knocked Up and Brooks to score higher than Spidey 3.

SM3 is about 9M away from SM1's worldwide cume. After this weekend, when the overseas tally comes in, it's bye bye SM1.

Fridays estimates are in. Updates below.

Pirates $ 13.5

Shrek $ 7.4

Spider-Man $ 2.0
