Surely if the judge fails in his favor, the studio would still has the option of paying... I can't imagine a situation like this

Judge: Chris is right!
Chris: hooray! stop the movie!
Studio: ok, here is your money...
Chris: Now I don't want it...

My point is the Judge will say he could get the money awed but could not stop the movie since teh rights to make the film was given out only comepnsation could be awarded.

How much is the Tolkien family owed, according to Chris? in an article says £80m... That would be £80000 (thousand) or £80000000 (million)?

My blog quite clearly stated £80million. My source link said £80m, which is the same. It's perfectly okay in the journalistic world to abbreviate 'million' to 'm', especially in headlines. For future information, thousand would be abbreviated to 'k' and billion to 'bn'. That's the way it it, don't question it, accept it.

LOL, Thanks, it actually makes sense... I'm not sure why I thought 'm' could stand as thousand ('mil' is spanish for thousand, but I don't think any similar word would be used in english)

I like how GDT intends to tackle Smaug's transition to the big screen. He's definitely onto something here. :)

As for the lawsuit well I do wonder since the Tolkien Estate still owns the rights to the Unfinished Tales and the Silmarillion, that certain parts of those books can easily be added into that 2nd film.

And I do wonder how long the Hobbit film will be. It's still small compared to each chapter of LOTR that surely with an EE in mind can still include nearly everything.

I am thinking Jackson could just put stuff in the match up with Lord Of the Rings sure form note he has seen but maybe but in his own thing like a few tales braught to light from Rings like Aragorn raided by the elves and him meeting Arwen.

Got this from darkhorizons.com:

The Daily Express reports that Scottish hunk and acclaimed 29-year-old thespian James McAvoy ("Atonement," "The Last King of Scotland") is the favourite to play the lead role of Bilbo Baggins in Guillermo del Toro's "The Hobbit".

According to the dubious British tabloid, "A number of names have been doing the rounds, including Daniel Radcliffe and Jack Black, but James (McAvoy) is the one the film's bosses really want. They're expected to have talks soon so hopefully it could be confirmed in the not too distant future."

In a chat with Empire earlier this week, director Guillermo del Toro said that he and producer Peter Jackson have a short list of names in regards to who they'd like to play Bilbo, and their first choice is someone both he and Jackson immediately agreed upon.

Speculation about the role will continue for a while though as del Toro has already warned that it'll be "at least a year before we announce any casting."

The 5'7 Glaswegian McAvoy will next be seen in this Summer's action vehicle "Wanted".

Did anyone else see the casting "exclusive" from the original source of the rumor?

Jack Black.

Why not Ian Holm? I mean the ring didn't age him so I would imagine he'd look the same way from the Hobbit to Fellowship...

Seriously. But it had damn well better not be Jack Black...I'd like to think del Toro wouldn't do that.

Holm has aged quite a bit since LOTR though...all of his stunts would have to be CGI or doubles...

McAvoy as Bilbo...I like it.

i would like to see Martin Freeman in the role the most. if McAvoy gets the role i wouldn't mind either but Martin Freeman is a better fit.

Martin Freeman just has that Hobbit look to him the way Ian Holm and Elijah Wood do. James McAvoy does somewhat too, but I think Freeman is the most "Bilbo-esque".

I could settle with either of 'em. Very good actors both. Though, I think too that Freeman would be more suitable.
