Great news. The Lord of the Rings trilogy is one of the most emotional and powerful films in cinema history in my opinion. Seeing what Peter did with the trilogy firmly established that he should be the one filming The Hobbit.

I'm curious about those who say another heartless 4 hour movie. Since when were the LOTR films heartless? You had character development for all of them, strong acting, strong dialogue, and very emotional scenes that move me to tears all the time.

No offense but to those who say it is heartless and boring, just remember that pretty much EVERYONE agrees that the LOTR are excellent films. They're critically acclaimed, the fans love them, and the 11 Academy Awards prove just how well received they are. I've always wanted to see WETA do the special effects work on Smaug.

Edit: Seeing how they brought Shelob to life made me want to see Smaug even more.

YES! YES! YES!

Raimi for Spidey 4! WOOOOO HOOOO!!

HAHAHHAHAAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAAHHAAHHAHAHAHHAAHAHHAHAHAHAH!:woot:

nope, sorry... i won't do the whole "i'm right and you're wrong" thing... but those movie, to me, were boring as all hell.

i'd seriously, honestly, rather watch maid on manhattan 3 times in a row, with only moulin rouge thrown in as a break, than watch any of those movies again.

they are truthfully the most boring and overrated "mainstream" movies that i can remember watching.

I guess this means we'll get to see Smigel/Gollum again.

Ok, fair enough.
To each his/her own.

I love the LOTR rings like I love breathing, so I really hope this happens.

This isn't any kind of confirmation that Jackson's doing the film or anything. Hell, we don't even know if he's still interested in doing it or even over what came between his people and those over at New Line. He wasn't the only one to sue them, 15 of his native NZ actors (most of whom have been with PJ a whiiiile...) sued New Line because they weren't receiving the royalty money that was set up for them.

I think now we can be hopeful that Peter Jackson will come back and do THE HOBBIT, but it still remains to be seen whether or not it's a place he even wants to come back to. At least the master of Middle Earth is back to being a candidate for the helm of the film... :)

Oh well, to each their own. But if you'd rather watch Maid in Manhattan three times I commend you for withstanding such torture. :cwink:

Well Newline seta 2009 release date a while back and they can't get anyone to take pver do to Jacksons good film making be my guess. They have to get Jackson to do it before the loose the film rights and Jackson buys them anyways.
So if New Line wants a hit and big money they have no choice.

Wow, you're so different and cool.

Ian McKellan on the Hobbit in 2003:
"I want to play Gandalf again, in The Hobbit," he told Time Europe magazine. "'I've asked Peter Jackson if he'll produce the prequel as a huge, year-long television series."

"All those different strands to the story seem perfect for TV, and we'd do every scene of it. It could be marvellous"

Good idea but there is too much money to be made at the box office.

The G.I. Joe live action epic would be good as television mini series too.

Ian McKellan quote 8/9/2007

"I would very much like to do it, but I don't know if it is going to happen or not," says McKellen. "If Peter Jackson ended up directing or producing it in New Zealand, it would be a wonderful thing. Peter was very sweet when he announced that he wouldn't be directing it. He sent me a note saying, 'Of course, Ian, you must play Gandalf if they get around to making it', which is kind because I would have felt disloyal doing it when he had not been able to do it himself. I have a feeling: every month that goes by when they don't announce that they're going to do it gets closer to the point where they no longer have the rights."

YES!!!

another completely boring, heartless, overrated, 4 hour long movie, coming our way!!

woo-hoo!

ahh and once again its the age old story of the fanboys turning against a product to try and stand out from the crowd

Don't jump the gun.

Nothing here says that he will work on it officially or that all the fences have been mended.

I honestly don't think Jackson is that talented as everyone thinks. His movies before LOTR and King Kong were not really that good and I think the only reason these movies are as popular as they are is because the hype that surrounded them. I am not saying the Lord of the Rings movies are bad, just boring and too long.
