I know you guys hated my other post but I think another little guy like Sam Rockwell would do justice to Bilbo.


Everybody hated my other pick but I never saw anybody who looks more like a Hobbit than Tobey.

Well yes, he's limited. But he still a Maiar, yes, a Maiar in human form, but come on. I mean, it's wolves.

Still, it won't really be a problem for general audiences. It always just struck me as funny.

Exactly, he has been bit parts and I was hoping more fans would want someone who can carry the screens. C'mon we all know Hitchhicker's wasn't what we wanted, Hot Fuzz was great, I don't remember him in Shaun of the Dead and Love Actually isn't something I would go out and rent.

I am open to an actor like this if alot of people are fans of him but I am more open to someone in the same movie as Hitchhiker's...

I think most of the pull for him is purely visual..but it takes more then looking the part to be a good casting choice

I don't care how well known the actor is. The Lord of the Rings contained many virtually unknowns who gave brilliant performances. Martin Freeman is the best choice I have heard so far.

Unknowns in LOTR? What are you talking about? Dominic Monahan and the other guy from Meri and Pipen but then you had a pretty good named cast, imo. Ian McKellan, Sean Bean, Elijah Wood, Viggo Mortensen, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Christopher Lee, and Sean Astin are well known, imo. I mean they weren't all blockbuster stars like Pitt, Damon and the like but I thought they were good actors from previous projects outside of Elijah Wood.

Looks like they've made some changes to the structure of the two movies:

“We’ve decided to have The Hobbit span the two movies, including the White Council and the comings and goings of Gandalf to Dol Guldur,” says Del Toro.

“We decided it would be a mistake to try to cram everything into one movie,” adds Jackson. “The essential brief was to do The Hobbit, and it allows us to make The Hobbit in a little more style, if you like, of the [LOTR] trilogy.”

What do you guys think? I think I like this layout better, to be honest. We'll get the Hobbit itself, as well as the White Council and Gandalf in Dol Guldur, which is really all we needs to bridge the gap between the two sets of movies. We don't need a whole movie to bridge them. They can use the Dol Guldur and White Council scenes to set up what Sauron is plotting in Mirkwood, and him fleeing to Mordor, and use The Hobbit itself to set up the finding of the Ring.

I think the first film will end with the battle at Dol Guldur when the White Council attack the Necromancer, and then the second film ends with the Battle of Five Armies and Bilbo returning to the Shire.

When the second film was going to be a bridge movie I always thought that it would focus alot on Aragorn's hunt for Gollum. With the 2 films now spaning just what happens in the time frame of the Hobbit, I doubt Aragorn will have any role.

What's the white council and the Dol Guldur thing? I don't even remember that being in the book.

The White Council consisted of Gandalf, Saruman, Galadriel, Elrond, and some non-movie characters that I'm not sure they'd necessarily introduce.
It was basically a team of "So what should we do?" for Middle-earth of all the smarter people

During the goings-on in The Hobbit they were noticing weird things going on around Dol Guldur,
to make a long story short that's where Sauron was regaining and revitalizing basically.

When Gandalf disappeared in The Hobbit he was dealing with this stuff, even though it wasn't necessarily all in the Hobbit...it was still going on.

So they basically adding things that will flesh it out a bit, and tie things together...but not just pulling the stuff out of nowhere, which is good.
