I hope that Hugo Weaving will have a large part in the movies. I've always been a fan of him ( agent smith he he ) but i always felt that his role was very small in the LOTR movies.

I want his role to be what it is in the book - letting Gandalf, Bilbo and the Dwarves stay at Rivendell and help them with the map. He could also be in the White Council meetings as well, but I don't think his role will be larger than what it was in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

Yeah, no matter what though its gonna be nice to see a familiar face. Im excited to see Rivendell again.

I cannot wait. I havent looked this forward to a film in a looooong time.
I can only name a few films that I looked forward to as much as this one.
Superman I & II (yes i'm old). TESB, Independence day, POTC 1, and the LoTR trilogy..

Me too. Rivendell was one of my favourite locations in the films, especially in Return of the King. The falling leaves and autumnal colours made it stunning. The scene between Elrond and Arwen when she drops the book and persuades him to reforge Narsil is one of my favourite scenes in the film.

It seems that at the moment it is returning cast members who are being announced. I expect the next people to be confirmed as being in the film will be Cate Blanchett and Christopher Lee and other trilogy actors reprising thier roles. Then we will probably start getting the new cast announcements such as Bilbo, Thranduil, Beorn, Bard, etc.

Hmm....what about Nick Stahl?

I think he would do a good job as Bilbo if he were cast.

He has the right size and the right facial features to look like a Hobbit and he is a pretty solid actor.

I like Nick Stahl....but he looks nothing like Ian Holm, IMO.

They should try to get at least a basic resemblance between young and old Bilbo.

I still don't quite get the appeal of Nick Stahl. I've seen him in a number of things and the only movie where he impressed me was Sin City. I wasn't even blown away by his performances in In the Bedroom or Carnivale.

I think he did a pretty good job in T3 also....

Why would Cate Blanchett be in The Hobbit? Galadriel has nothing to do with the story, nor does Christopher Lee aka Saruman

I really want to hear the castings for the dwarves.

^Brendan Gleeson would be a great Thorin IMHO.

Del Toro and Jackson have said many times that The Hobbit films will include all the other events that were taking place in Middle-Earth at the time, including The White Council meetings and their attack on Dol-Guldor. Galadriel and Saruman were 2 of the most important members of the White Council, so they have to be in the films.

Hmmm, not sure how I feel about that. I think I would prefer it to strictly follow The Hobbit storyline :csad: I think it will definitely change the tone of the film.

The White Council is one of the things Im looking forward to the most in this movie. The only problem is getting Lee back. Saruman was the head of the White Council. Also it's the reason why Gandalf couldnt join Bilbo and the Dwarves for most of the quest so technically while not flesh out in the book is part of the story. It would be unwise to leave it out.

There is no need for Aragorn in this and Gimli is not part of this story. Unless John Davis would play the characters father. I think Legolas should be off somewhere else. So to soley focus on his father in the movie.
The Elf King should be played by Ron Pearlman, Daniel Day Lewis or Brian Cox someone who could look kinda weathered down for in the hobbit i picture the elf king as very old or very tired looking.

Elves are not physically ugly, nor do they age badly, though. Ron Perlman would be a fantastic Goblin King of the Misty Mountains, but he is no elf. Maybe Jason Isaacs?

Christopher Lee has said he won't be involved in the Hobbit because he is too old to be flying to New Zealand to film. However he did say that he would be involved if they filmed over here for his scenes.
I can see them doing this for the sake of having him.

I read all that a few months back in either Total Film or Empire. I think it ways either Del Toro or Jackson who said it.

Congratulations to Sir Christopher on his knighthood, by the way!

I wonder about some of the little things.

Since Jackson is still going to be involved hopefully the trolls will look the same as we saw them in LotR when they are turned to stone just for continuitys sake.

Having said that, The Hobbit's trolls are clearly less bestial than those in The Lord of The Rings and The Silmarillion. I think it is in "A Tolkien Bestiary" that the entry for trolls remarks that those of The Hobbit must have been considered intellectual giants by the rest of their kind.

I certainly wasn't blown away by his performance in T3 . He just didn't seem to fit the role for me. He was really good in Sin City though. At the moment he makes direct to dvd movies so I doubt the use him anyways.

Part of the charm of the book is that it's told from Bilbo's point of view, though. I'm somewhat disappointed that the movie won't be that way. The way I see it, although yes, Gandalf wasn't there for most of the quest, the book is focused on what Bilbo is involved in/called "The Hobbit" for a reason. I think it's an interesting but unecessary part to include in the movie. Hopefully, I will enjoy the addition, but the film's tone is shaping up to be different than I anticipated, is all. I hope they don't leave out parts of the book in order to make room for these extra scenes.
