Having said that, The Hobbit's trolls are clearly less bestial than those in The Lord of The Rings and The Silmarillion. I think it is in "A Tolkien Bestiary" that the entry for trolls remarks that those of The Hobbit must have been considered intellectual giants by the rest of their kind.

I see!

Well whether they're trolls or giants it would be cool if they kept the same look/design that they had in LotR when they are in stone form from arguing 'till the sun came up. :woot:

Gandalf was part of the important scenes except for the part after the eagles save them from the goblins. And ofcourse Gandy was part of the battle of 5 armies which should look amazing. I am hoping that the look of the Hobbit is not too much like Deltoros other movies for i liked the LOTR look except for the Wargs which need work. And i can see Deltoros expertise being best suited for Smaugs chamber.

Del Toro has said that the Wargs will be redesigned to look more wolf-like, like they were in the book

Smaug better be able to talk.

Smaug will talk, as will the Trolls, Eagles and Goblins. Del Toro has said that the animals that talked in the book would talk in the film, however it will be more of showing people can understand them, rather than having the creatures lip-synch.

I just hope it doesn't look too silly. I'm not worried about Smaug though.

my take on Mcavoy as bilbo

I was actually against anyone other than Ian Holm doing this, but now that I've seen this picture, I can totally picture McAvoy in the role. He actually looks like he could be related to Elijah Wood's Frodo.

what do u mean by that?

I take it as that the animals will woof/bark/howl etc and the characters will understand what they are saying, rather than the animals actually talking like Aslan and co in Narnia.

that would be cool i guess. the Narnia animals are cheesy but i guess it works for the younger audience it goes for. I do want to see Smaug talk though, lips moving and everything.

I think it relates to the Eagles more than anything, as we have seen talking Orcs and Goblins in the trilogy, and having Trolls talk seems perfectly fine, as they are also quite humanoid. I think it implies that actors voices will be heard but the birds wont be opening and closing their beaks. After all, the eagles are magical angelic creatures in Middle-Earth so having their voices heard without them speaking sounds fine as far im concerned.

oh okay gotcha. Yeah we never heard anything from the birds in the trilogy so it would be akward if they just started yapping like that eagle/lion(griffin?) in Narnia.

McAvoy would be a good choice for Bilbo....

Good pick to whoever suggested it....

Im hoping del Toro got the hint because a ton of fans have been suggesting it. We should hear who plays Bilbo very shortly im excited.

I really don't want McAvoy to play Bilbo. He does not seem like a young Ian Holm. I would rather have Michael Sheen or Martin Freeman, who both look more like Hobbits than McAvoy, and who I can both see acting as a younger version of Holm's character.

Imagine Bilbo having had sex with Kate Beckinsale.

*shudders*

Guillermo del Toro Confirms 'The Hobbit' Starts Filming in 2010

Guillermo del Toro, the director of "Hellboy", recently talked about his upcoming movie "The Hobbit". In an interview with tourism reps from New Zealand, he confirmed the production schedule of his new project, stating "It will start in March 2010 and we will shoot for about 370 days." Furthermore, he informed that the post production will take several months after the shooting before the release of the first part in 2011, while "The Hobbit 2" will be released in 2012.

Guillermo additionally revealed that though most of the New Zealand's landscapes seen in the first film will be similar to the ones used "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, the end part will use landscapes "that you haven't seen in the trilogy." About the shooting locations for the second movie, however, he explained that from the beginning, it will have landscapes which are completely different from the "Lord of the Rings".

"The Hobbit" is taken from JRR Tolkien's novel of the same tittle and made into two-part movies. The movies will re-create the scenes of the novel, with additional events that make an impact to "The Lords of the Rings", such as the expulsion of Sauron from Mirkwood by The White Council. The first movie is scheduled for December 2011 U.S. release, while the second one is expected to hit theaters across the U.S. a year later.

Previously, it has been announced that some of the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy actors will reprise their roles in "The Hobbit". They include Ian McKellen as Gandalf, Andy Serkis as Gollum and Hugo Weaving as Elrond.

Hmm....
I would've thought that Wanted 2 might rule out Mcavoy for the shoot but according to the director they're hoping to start shooting in fall/winter 2009.
So there's definately room for Mcavoy should be accept to role of Bilbo

Probably the different places that we haven't seen in LOTR. There are some locations in the Hobbit that aren't in LOTR.

Murkwood Forrest and the Lonely Mountain are the settings I am most looking forward to.

Lake Town will be incredible to see. I can't wait to see that.

Lake Town will be epic for sure. I just wish they would start filming sooner, march 2010 is quite a long ways away.
