Hobbiton! New Zealand is being re-made into Middle-Earth once again. I cannot wait!

God yes. I believe they start filming in February.

You gotta love Peter Jackson for he actaully is trying too make people believe WB or any studio would not wanna greenlit the Hobbit movie into film. I mean honestly The Hobbit would all likelyness be the next coming of TDK in sheer massive numbers at the Box Office for honestly who would pass up a hit like that. Sure WB releases HP but come on This is The Hobbit there probably isn't many people world wide who has not read The Hobbit or doesn't know the story.

...Just a quick little update.

You may remember talk of a lawsuit brought about by the J.R.R. Tolkien estate that had potential to endanger the production of the upcoming two-part film adaptation, The Hobbit. Well, it seems to have been settled. (Although the terms have not been released.)

The suit in question, was for about $150 million in damages due to a failure on the part of New Line to pay the allotted 7.5% of the combined gross, which brought in about $6 billion for the three Lord of the Rings films from 2001-2003. That's not exactly pocket change, and the Tolkien estate obviously had to make sure their pay was secured with more than a 10-year-old pinky promise. (Hyperbole, obviously.)

The lawsuit escalated when it was being reported that the Tolkien estate wanted to be awarded the power to terminate rights from New Line regarding The Hobbit. (An especially sore point after the years-long legal battles between New Line and MGM over contention over those rights.)

However, according to a statement by Christopher Tolkien (J.R.R.'s son.):

"The Trustees regret that legal action was necessary, but are glad that this dispute has been settled on satisfactory terms that will allow the Tolkien Trust properly to pursue its charitable objectives. The Trustees acknowledge that New Line may now proceed with its proposed films of 'The Hobbit.'"

I seriously doubt that there was truly any danger towards the film itself. However, it's still good to see these things resolved.

Finally we know why Pete was stalling us for they weren't done with the civil case. I find it hard to believe The Hobbit wasn't green lit because the script wasn't done. Several actors attach them selves to projects all the time.

Good news!

Now let's get this train a-movin'!

MY guess is that ever since the news broke that the movies were actually going forward with guillermo and the others working on the script and the sets being built , WB and the tolkien estate were quietly just negotiating the amount of cash that the tolkien estate was asking for . I find it dumb to believe that a major studio would go forward with a movie when there is this big lawsuit going on and there would've been a chance of the estate stopping production.

Plus PJ is also getting his fare share of the $$$ :

New Line already is paying a legal settlement to Lord Of The Rings trilogy director and profit participant Peter Jackson who was blocked by Shaye from auditing the studio until Warner Bros absorbed New Line.

Do you think they'll be able to create a plausible Smaug without it coming off like Dragonheart?

Bilbo should be announced in short order no??

Didn't McKellan say they have their pick?

WETA is doing the effect again so the answer to the question is what did you think of the Wogs and Eagles? Did they look fake or take you out of LOTR? I trust those behind this movie.I always like the Hobbit more then the other books.

so how will WETA do the effects for Hobbit and TinTin?

The same way ILM does multiple films at a time. They have different teams working on things. It's really nothing new.

ILM were not alone doing TF. they were not alone doing IM .
WETA is fro mwhat i understand alone doing TinTIn(100% CGI).
i would like if WETA would alone work on the Hobbit.

Same here. This is so exciting. It's like seeing an old friend again. Can you believe it will be ten years after the first came out?

I'm glad they will start shooting The Hobbits before McKellan gets too old to play Gandalf.
