- no sandman being the killer of uncle ben. peter should be pissed by the fact that he got away and the media are shoving it in his face. which upsets him more than mj's problems, until she gets enough of that (there, 3 birds in one shot)
- the 'walk' scene is shorter.
- no emo hair cut, turning into a prick is enough change.
- sandman's daughter dies of whatever illness she had, a real motivation to kill spider-man.
- the giant sandman scene happens in some other place and then venom appears and kills him in a rather cruel way (while he's down and defeated, and i'm thinking with gasoline).
- venom kidnaps mj and betty, forces him to fight him while trying to save them both. not an easy task.
- no cut to the news or jj.
- peter does not come to harry for aid, and no explainatory butler scene. harry realizes the truth about the goblin's nature some other with another mirror scene and heads off to save peter and mj.
- harry still dies, mj leads betty away from this moment (let's get out of here)so not to reveal the identity of spider-man.
- venom is defeated but lives to fight again.
- there is a final swing, but it's slower and sort of romantic with mj in peter's arm. this leads to a venom reveal...cliffhanger.

surprisingly i want to leave the dance scene (although a few parts of it would have to go).

- MJ on cab on top of the construcions site, peter know he can´t defeat venom alone so he goes and ask harry for help

- Battle Royale: Spidey vs Venom, venom kicks Spidey ass, then harry arrives and it is Spidey and New Goblin vs. Venom, venom kills harry, Peter kills venom and eddy (the way it was done in the movie seems ok to me, some how he can be still alive, or some remainig part of venom could bring back eddy some how-but now eddy would be totally bond to venom-)

-Peter and MJ visting Harry's grave...

-MJ and Peter get engaged...

- there is a final swing, but it's slower, and with mj in peter's arm. this leads to a venom reveal...cliffhanger.

This movie was good... but to make it great..... here's what they should have done....

-have a scene with Jameson going to the moon again, but discovering the smybiote.... later, him and his crew are trying to land the shuttle when the symbiote trys to bond to jameson, and screws up his approach... spiderman saves the day, but the symbiote attaches itself to him

-keep sandmans origin the same... but develop his daughter situation... show how she is sick, and they can't afford the medicine and treatments... he gets thrown out of the house by his wife for being a criminal...

-have eddie brock in it.... but don't have him become venom yet... not in this movie.. save it.... have him and parker not like each other because they are both trying for the same job.....

-keep harry's part the same.... minus the amnesia.... and don't have his butler tell him about his dad... that was lame.... have him finally realize that the gas is making him insane... he stops taking it, and as it wears off, his father's vision comes to him, not as the goblin, but his father,..... telling him not to become what he was, and to love Peter because they are like brothers.....

-sandman and spidey have a huge fight... spidey is getting his butt handed to him... when harry shows up.... harry isn't as powerful as before, because he's stop using the gas... he gets knock off his glider... and as sandman approaches for the kill... harry, pulls a string of pumpkin bombs.... and kills himself... and turns sandman into glass..... peter screams..... peter is furious.. he's about to smash sandman into a thousand pieces when sandmans duaghter shows up, and begs spiderman not to kill her father.... that he's a good man, just misguided....... spiderman decides not to kill him, and sandman is taken away, but forever locked in his glass prison....

-MJ doesn't get involved in the last battle...

-MJ and Peter get engaged...

and towards the end, Peter gets his job... and Eddie Brock is let go.... Eddie, depressed, goes to church to find strength from god... as he's praying, the symbiote drops on him... screen turns black, and all you hear is a scream...

-last scene is Peter and MJ visting Harry's grave.....

- MJ can only sing one time - minimum
- either cut out Sandman OR cut out Venom. If Sandman stays, probably axe the symbiote/black suit as well - if Venom remains the suit can stay.

- one more I forgot: cut all those stupid shots of that reporter lady - was that supposed to be serious or funny? because it failed at both.

Here how I would have done it.

The film would have been about Peter, MJ , Harry and Liz Allen. I have it take place 2 years after Part 2.

Harry/Hobgoblin: Harry would have been torn between his lust for revenge and his new found love Liz Allen. He's leading a double life .He's still haunted by the images of his father but now he actually has something to live for. The new girl in his life who actually loves him . The ghost of Norman tells Harry that he shouldn't trust her and that he has to chose between his father's honor or his love . Harry has two paths : He can either continue his nightly terror as the Hobgoblin or He can move on with Liz and have the happy life he always wanted. His struggle in this one would mirror Peter's struggle in Spiderman 2 . His suit would look similar to the way it does in the comics except it be mixed in with the Goblin costume from part one.

MJ: I'd have her dealing with the choice she made in S2. Can she really deal with possibley losing Peter . Think of it in terms of the wife of a solider or police officer. She thinks she can live with it but there's always the fear that they die in the line of duty . She's had nightmares about it and the dangerous game Spiderman and Hobgoblin are playing only adds to her fears .Her frustration continues because Peter is wrapped up in his newfound fame and is clueless to MJ's concerns

Liz : I would have her being a friend of MJ. She would be a socialite like Harry except she would come from a good family that likes Harry. She would been funny and outgoing . The kind of person who Harry always wanted. Think of the scene at Harry apartment with MJ and substitue Liz . She sees he's in pain and trys to help him but he pushes her away whenever she gets too close . I'm not sure who i'd have play her . Maybe Bryce Dallas Howard or Meredith Monroe.

Peter: I think I would have kept him cocky and more confident as he adjusts to having MJ in his life. He would also neglect MJ alot through his adventures and end up spending less time with her then before. He wants to take their relationship to the next step . At the same time he's trying to save his relationship with Harry which has gone to dangerous levels . Think the Prestige . The pride comes before the fall , that's Peter storyline for Spiderman 3.

In the end , Harry would choose revenge but at the last minute sacrifices himself to save Peter and MJ. Just before he dies he tells Peter,"Don't tell Liz".
Liz is crushed and tells Peter and MJ she is pregnaunt at Harry's funeral. All of this makes MJ realize that she couldn't take losing Peter the way Liz lost Harry ,so she decides that they need a break from each other . Peter asks for how long and she tells him she doesn't know . She decides to take a modeling job in Europe .

She would leave town at the end while Spiderman swings through the city alone. There he thinks , wow , i've lost my best friend , Liz is gonna need help with the baby, and MJ is gone. It's like I'm back where I started . But I'm gonna get her back , whatever it takes, however long it takes . But until then I have alot of growing up to do . The film would end with him swinging off in the sunset .

In the opening scene I'd have him in the middle of a fight with minor villians Sandman and Electro (The Ultimate version),and takes them down. I'd have some wrestler play Sandman and unknown to play Electro in the same way they had an unknown play Ben's original killer. No backstory , just two villians trashing the city and Spiderman stops them . They're taken off to jail at the end of the sequence and that's it. No sick daughter , neither of them killing uncle Ben. They would get a little more time then Venom got. I wouldn't base a whole film around them . They are like Sabretooth and Toad in XMen 1 . They're criminals with powers . That's it .

Much like the opening to a Bond film, you're thrust into the action. I'd still have the Spidey voice over of course, but it would be interupted by him dodging Sandman or Electro. From the point on it becomes a very small scale personal film about being able to get past revenge and to move on .

1) There would be no symbiote at all. No black Spider-Man, no emo Peter, and no Venom, No bernerd explaination and no stan lee speaking cameo in this movie.

2) Gwen is replaced with Betty Brant, and MJ is still jealous
3) Harry fakes his amnesia
4) Sandman is the primary villain, and then harry and peter can still fight him at the end...I guess...
5) MJ isn't a damsel in distress at the end.
6) Where is my spider sense???
7) Harry finally talks back to his father in the mirror sequence arguing with him and finally defeating him, realizing he was in fact, bat**** crazy.
8) Sandman doesn't die in the end like GG and Ock did.
9) better dialogue.
10) I find it out of character for peter to let the city liking him give him such a huge ego boost in the beginning. None of that.

On a side note, i liked that the ending was so low key...maybe leave that in.

Sandman, Black Spidey, Gwen, Brock nor Venom got enough development to make this film great. Too much time was wasted on Harry's amnesia, Peter's turn at the piano and the longest game of phone tag ever.

First of all, the jazz club scene, up until the dance, was absolutely the most unintentionally jarring scene I have ever witnessed in a movie. Ever. No lie, at one point I thought I was having a nightmare. My friends and I agreed that it should be deleted from the dvd. This was a prime example of what was wrong with this movie......over confidence. Raimi had made two very good movies and thought he could do no wrong. I guess no one dared question or edit him, and we get the jazz club scene and the ever-so coincedence of the meteor landing (silently I might add) near Peter and the laughably easy way to become dirt....etc.

I know WHY everything and character was in the movie, but boy was it cliff-noted or what?!

I agree that the resolution of the Harry storyline was important but did we need two fights and several amnesiac scenes to do that? Couldn't that time have been better spent on Brock/Venom?

What if in the beginning of the film, Harry in his scheming to ruin Peter's life, discover's Marko was the real killer and springs him from prison (maybe in a REAL Hobgoblin costume). In a deal for medical treatment for his daughter, Marko is to help capture Spiderman. As Harry tours Marko, he explains that he has been building tech and collecting anything that might help medical research for children. This is of course a lie as Harry is only interested in torturing Peter by revealing that Marko is Uncle Ben's killer... hoping that Peter will lose it and do something he'd regret. Harry points to a meteor in a case and explains that he even plans to study non-earthly substances later.....but Harry convinces Marko that studying Spiderman is the most likely way to find a cure for his daughter. When Marko asks why he was chosen, Harry tells him that Marko's and Spidey's DNA will be needed to be part of the experiment if it's to work for his daughter...and, since Marko is already a criminal, with no money for hospital bills, Harry bets he'll care less if Spidey is hurt or not. He needs someone desperate. Maybe he is shown prototype battle suits that us fans recognize as Electro and Scorpion costumes.

Harry really intends to use Marko to lure Peter into a trap where he'll be killed.

Insert scenes of Brock and Gwen and MJ...etc

The police inform Peter and May of Markos escape and his involvement with the shooting. Peter is enraged. Harry contacts Peter and says that he knows where Marko is and that he hopes when Peter sees his uncle's killer he'll feel the same way Harry feels when seeing Peter's face.

Spiderman winds up at Harry's lab. Harry purposely hasn't prepared Marko and tells him to hide in a room. It's a trap and Spidey and Marko are sealed inside. They are in a machine which will disintegarte them. Spidey is able to get out but as he shoots webbing to pull out Marko the webs disolve. Harry seeing Spidey is out throws a pumpkin bomb. The machine blows up sending Marko out of the labs windows, Harry is knocked unconscious and Spiderman is blown backwards into the case holding the meteor. The rock cracks and we see the symbiote reach out towards an unconcious Spidey. Marko's body lands in a sandy ditch. As he tries to get up he is horrified as his body disolves and seeps into the dirt.

When Spidey wakes to a charred lab, he thinks his suit has soot on it because it's now black.

Peter washes and washes the suit but it stays black. He decides he likes it and starts wearing it more...especially when he finds himself emotionally upset. Which he does when he discovers Marko is alive and is the Sandman. A Sandman who is now so desperate that he is stealing. We still get the great scene of Marko first becoming Sandman.

The rest of the movie could play out similar to the real movie but with more development of Sandman and Black Spidey's decent (since he's black spidey within the first 30 minutes of my version) Then we could have Peter hit bottom and realize the suit is influencing him. He takes a sample to Dr. Connors and discover's it isn't just a costume. He then gets rid of it which births Venom atleast 30 minutes earlier than in the current movie. Venom knows Peter's secrets. Since Venom doesn't trigger Peter's Spidey Sense, we could get some creepy scenes of Venom stalking Peter. Instead of Harry threatening MJ, we get that great scene where MJ thinks she sees black Spidey in her apartment until it grins. SCARY! She is kidnapped.

Venom tracks down Sandman and manipulates him into fighting Spidey in the finale. Marko is so badgered by Spidey he agrees.....especially when Venom explains that there is a big monetary payoff. Instead of the dump truck, maybe Venom has arranged for another armored truck.

When Peter sees MJ is kidnapped, he asks for Harry's help and he is refused. Harry retreats to his destroyed lab to salvage any Goblin gear. His glider is destroyed but his dad's is intact. As he moves it, it powers up and a audible prompt asks if a review of telemetery, visual records and diagnostics is requested. Harry never knew this was a glider function and as he downloads the info, he discovers that Peter did not kill his father.

The end of the movie could be similar. I'd delete the cheering crowd and sassy girl. I'd make Sandman less like King Kong and I'd have Harry show up in Green Goblin attire which freaks Peter out until he sees Harry is on his side. When Sandman discovers that Spidey is Ben's nephew, he just quits the fight.

The rest with Venom is pretty good from the real movie.

There is a number of things I can do. I think there are two sequences in the film that do not work (one of which being MJ being "forced" into breaking up with Peter and the other being the speedy team-up of Sandman and Venom to Harry's butler lecture)....

but it was a good film, if flawed. And there is no reason to dwell on how to fix it. Sure it may have benefitted from not having Sandman or not having Venom instead. But it did and it is pointless to spend hours contemplating what you would change. It is simple. Did you like the movie? Then accept it and move on. If you didn't, accept it and move on.

I liked it, but was disappointed by some aspects. But I enjoy it as a whole and don't want to spend hours trying to rethink a tentpole movie.

I think you are right on. SM2 explored the fact that Peter was wanting to shun being Spider-man, but at the end he embraced it. This film is about him going too far in the other direction. They should have lost Sandman, and focused more on
1. Harry's conversion into the Goblin and his attempts to destroy Peter's life and relationships.
2. The black suit and Peter's evolution to a daker side that culminates in deep regret.
3. How Peter's darkness destroys Eddie Brock's life and puts him in a position to become Venom and terrorize Peter.

That would have been a very naturally evolved story.

That's my fix for this film in a nutshell. It wasn't bad at all. It just needed to have an idea of what to do with the time alloted. Focus on the parts that are being marketed and hyped instead of dwelling on metaphysical concepts conveyed by actors who may not be able to emote it.

So i saw the movie again tonight, and i must say i enjoyed it alot more, but the scenes that REALLY bothered me... bothered me a WHOLE lot more...

the movie would have been 100 times better if

1) the Emo haircut (he friggin looked like Little Nicky) and dance scenes were cut, especially the jazz club fiasco. All they needed to do was have Peter show up and dance with Gwen... that would have been enough, the dance number was not needed.

2) Eddie Brock lived

3) If Tobey learned how to cry without making a whole audience laugh, he looks SOOOO akward.

everything else i could tolerate, and the movie would have been much better. Still honestly i have more fun watching it then spidey 2.. and thats mostly because of MJ, Kirsten made me cringe in spidey 2.. this time around, shes spot on MJ and the MJ i love. (well least the MJ of todays comics)

This film should have had two villians either have sandman and GG2 in this one, venom in 4th with another villian. Or GG2 and venom, with venom again in the fourth with another villian. The ending was too rushed, evrything seemed to go back to normal like That. The start of the film set Spidey up for a fall, I wanted to see the public hate black spidey, but they barely knew him. In the fourth Spidey should have been searching for redemption, with Mj and the public. There was not enough black spiderman and too much emo parker. he should have been going evil and vengeful, not so cocky and dancing all the time.

First off I'm not a professional writer so please be cool about it. I just want people's opinions on my ideas and not my writing skills. Also I'm not trying to say I have better ideas or a better imagination than the people who made the movie, because without the original movie I wouldn't even know where to start. Also I really did like the movie

This should have been about Harry, Sandman and the symbiote. Gwen Stacy and venom (Not eddie) should be out

Harry has some kind of experiment going on at Os-corp, trying to make soldiers that can blend in with the enviroment, during desert warfare. As an result, one of about 20 volunteers for the experiment is transformed into the Sand man (William Baker/Flint Marko), the rest dying. There is something in his genetic make-up that turns him into the Sandman, instead of killing him.
After finding out that Flint is not his real name and has a criminal record, Harry gets the idea to use him as muscle against Spider-man. At this time Harry is too scared to go through with the procedure (fearing insanity) to become the new Goblin.
After the Sandman fails after one or two fights with Spider-man, Harry gets the "If you want something done you have to do it yourself" attitude and goes through with the procedure, wich is successful.
Eddie Brock should be in it, but not as venom yet. Just an A-hole who antagonizes Peter on a professional level only.
I guess the way the symbiote was introduced in the movie should stay the same, but I think it should effect him on a mental level in a darker and more subtle way.
The first time Harry fights Peter should be the same when he attacks him on his motor scooter in regular clothes, without the black suit underneath.
The whole amnesia and Peter and Harry becoming friends again for a while can stay. Also the way he Harry remembers everything, because of his dad being in his head should stay the same.
The way Harry gets Peter to meet him should be the standerd threaten his girlfriend thing. I don't think Harry should physically keep MJ as an hostage, because I don't think he should be able to bring himself to do that. I think he should make the threat over the phone, telling Peter that he remebers everything. The whole kissing thing between Mary Jane and Harry should be out, as of matter of fact her going to his house for company should be out as well.
Black suit Spider-man and New Goblin fight and of course Spider-man wins with no sweat, because of the symbiote and Harry is disfigured like in the movie.
I think Sand man who at first does'nt know everything he can do as Sand man finds out by accident that he can also absorb sand from other sources and becomes almost unstoppable and gets out of Harry's control. He feels that he doesn't have to be Osborn's stooge anymore. he also has deep hatred for Spider-man for defeating him.
Feeling bad that he hurt Harry and disturbed by how he didn't seem to care at the time, he decides to take off the symboite suit and never put it on again. The Symboite sensing that it's be rejected clings to Peter and he rips it off and it gets on Eddie all the same as in the movie. Also before this Peter should expose Eddie for making a fake picture of Spider-man like in the movie, so that Eddie is in the church for the same reasons.
After the symboite gets on Eddie, because he's not super enhanced like Peter he's knocked unconscious, by the shock of merging with the syboite.
The Sandman goes on a rampage in New York trying to flush Spider-man out.
Spider-man seeing how big the sandman is goes to harry for help is rejected. Now how Harry finds out that his father really did die by his own hand in the movie bothered alot of people, because they're thinking that this old man could've saved people alot of problems by telling Harry this in the first place. Maybe the writers could have him explain why he didn't tell him. They could just had the old man say he didn't want to tarnish his memory of his father, by telling him that he was the Green Goblin.
The normal suited Spider-man takes on the giant Sandman and doesn't do that good, not only because of Sandman's size and increased strength, but also because he is using innocent people against Spider-man and has to save people and fight at the same time. This sandman is really a bad guy and not just misunderstood. Anyway Harry comes and helps him and together they beat the sand man. I don't know if it should be by destroying him, containing him or taking away his power someway. I would keep Harry alive after the battle.
After the main closing scene, maybe showing Peter's and Mary Jane's wedding with Harry as the best man, the scene fades to a Black clawed had opening and closing on the floor of the church's staircase flow and a monsterious strangled voice repeating over and over again "Parker". Then the closing credits.
because Venom is such a major villian in Spider-man's world, Spider-man 4 should be completely about venom as the only villian.

I think in 3 Mary and Peter should have some problems, but not to the point that MJ is a nag, this is why I have them getting married at the end. Also the dancing and strutting around should be out and instead show Peter more angry, brooding and arrogant.

ok 3 things,

1. More Brock/Venom: I agree with what alot of you are saying, make the story about harry and Brock as the main villains. You could always save sandman for the sequals.

2. More time with the black suit and decent into darkness: this was one of the points of the movie, he was comfertable being spider-man now and he was finally getting good buzz, I wish they would have shown more of his decent, not just an emo haircut and weird dance moves, i mean a complet change in personality he really does become something ugly as aunt may put.

3. Shuttle crash in the beggining: Some one else in the thread said it and I agree, it makes more sense that they would give him the key to the city for saving John Jamason then just saving Gwen. And it's a better way In my opinion to intoduce the symbiote.

And theres other little things I would have done but those are the three major ones.

-keep harry's part the same.... minus the amnesia.... and don't have his butler tell him about his dad... that was lame.... have him finally realize that the gas is making him insane... he stops taking it, and as it wears off, his father's vision comes to him, not as the goblin, but his father,..... telling him not to become what he was, and to love Peter because they are like brothers.....

-parker gets the black suit... and he's not emo.... he's a bad ass.... picking fights. telling off everyone...yelling at his aunt may..... also show his increaed powers and awareness..... later he hits MJ and he knows that he has to take off the suite... he finds out sonic vibrations injure it... and he goes to a church... rings the bells, and destroys most of the symbiote... some of it gets away... unknown to peter....

-sandman and spidey have a huge fight... spidey is getting his butt handed to him... when harry shows up.... harry isn't as powerful as before, because he's stop using the gas... he gets knock off his glider... and as sandman approaches for the kill... harry, pulls a string of pumpkin bombs.... and kills himself... and turns sandman into glass..... peter screams..... peter is furious.. he's about to smash sandman into a thousand pieces when sandmans duaghter shows up, and begs spiderman not to kill her father.... that he's a good man, just misguided....... spiderman decides not to kill him, and sandman is taken away, but forever locked in his glass prison....

-MJ doesn't get involved in the last battle...

-MJ and Peter get engaged...

and towards the end, Peter gets his job... and Eddie Brock is let go.... Eddie, depressed, goes to church to find strength from god... as he's praying, the symbiote drops on him... screen turns black, and all you hear is a scream...

-last scene is Peter and MJ visting Harry's grave.....

-Eliminate Harry's amnesia and relationship scenes, instead having him be in a coma until he wakes up later desiring revenge on Peter. Then replace these scenes with more development for Brock and Sandman, establishing a better foundation for Brock.

-Include more scenes of Venom after he obtains the symbiote before the battle royale, such as the comic scene in which Peter is waiting for the train and Venom pushes him into it, causing Peter to wonder why his spider sense did not alert him. This would explain to the audience the powers of the symbiote.

-Finally, have Brock arrested instead of killed, creating some possibility of return while providing a satisfying conclusion!
