September 05, 2008 by James Harvey

The highly-anticipated Wolverine And The X-Men animated series premieres this Saturday on the Canadian youth-themed network YTV.

The network has provided the official synopsis for the series and premiere date, which can be seen below. The first episode of Wolverine & The X-Men scheduled to air is "Hindsight, Part 1."

After 50 years of best-selling comic books, three blockbuster movies, a massive fan-base spanning all ages, the new animated series Wolverine and the X-Men joins the YTV schedule. When an explosive event shatters the lives of the X-Men and takes away their mentor, the beaten heroes decide to walk away from it all. But after a rare glimpse into the future, Wolverine takes the lead and reunites the broken band to embark upon the ultimate mission – preventing the world’s destruction.

YTV will air reruns of each Wolverine & The X-Men episode the following Saturday at 12pm (ET), during the YTV Saturday morning block. "Hindsight, Part 1" is currently scheduled to rerun September 13th, 2008 at 12pm (ET).

Looks like the Canadians aren't backing out on fans like the despicable BBC.

Too right, damn that BBC. I had told people at work about the original transmission date and my colleague/friend Tara and her little boy were deeply disappointed that the BBC screwed up over this.

Start a petition, picket the offices. :hehe:

Your welcome. Apparently the brotherhood ask her for help in controlling some mutant but i dont think shes in the brotherhood so I hope she joins the X-men.

So in canada did it premiere today in the morning or the afternoon?

Evening (8 Atlantic); I just watched it (they're only doing half-hour showings, so the first felt a bit incomplete, but each works as its own installment fairly well).

All the voices are well cast (the guy voicing Beast does a good job, invoking the tone of both George Buza and Kelsey Grammer, albeit his character is a bit jokier then those two), and the animation looks great.

Comparing this to the two previous shows, it's closer to the 90s show in story approach, taking the existence of the X-Men and the characters' histories mainly for granted rather than starting out from scratch (the X-Men don't have an especially compelling or important team origin story anyway, which is why pretty much every adaptation skips the chronological approach).

On a minor note, we get a multi-racial human family as guests, which isn't something you often see in animation unless the episode is an aesop about racism.

Yeah I noticed that too. Makes sense since this is a show about equality: whether it be race, religion, or shooting lasers from your eyes. :D

I liked that part about the first episode.

FYI, Beast is played by Fred Tatasciore. He's also voicing the Hulk in episode 7, and in addition he's played the Hulk in all the Marvel/Lionsgate DVD animated movies. Fred also voiced Loz in FF7: Advent Children.

I got to interview Fred multiple times at Comic Con, he's a very nice and cool guy.

I'm OK with Beast joking some, since the character at his best has been a brilliant guy with a somewhat cheesy sense of humor. Beast is always a guy that knows how to lighten up a situation. He comes off as a second in command of sorts to Wolverine in the pilot, which works since they sort of compliment each other well.

I found a torrent that was just uploaded today so I figured it would be the premiere - it was...in Spanish. GAH! It looks PHENOMENAL.

For those who want to see...I just took like the first 2 minutes, with the BRILLIANT opening that gets me SO psyched for this show, and the beginning of the episode with Shadowcat, Colossus, and Nightcrawler in the Danger room.

DAMMIT! I can't show you guys. I got really excited for you too. Fricken had to install OS 10.5 and my computer wouldn't install it correctly so I had to do an erase/clean install so I lost my Quicktime Pro registration! Well, if I can figure out how to crop and convert, I will put it up here. In the meantime...some snaps of the opening:

Is that who I think it is? YES! No one knows how elated I would be if Marrow had a nice recurring role...but I think we're assured at least a cameo if she's in the opening shot of the titles.

Great images cassidy. I never even caught Marrow in there the first time.

Also regarding the credits, I was amused how everyone else gets to kick ass while Angel just flaps his wings dramatically; poor Warren, how useless you are.

I know right. Its just he cant really do much in a fight against sentinels.

I also noticed that Wolverine and Cyclops are the only ones fighting the Sentinels, everyone else is fighting some guards.

not every x-man needs to be a nuclear Bomb.

Each one can help in different situations.

I don't want 20 Logans, so I'm glad Angel is there.
