Comics Official X-Men Forever Thread

Yes but X-men 2 where Gambit tried to touch Rogue was included in the Forever Alpha that directly predates this new series. Gambit would have known he couldn't touch her from that.
I dont remember the scene i'll have to go back and look at it

And if Gambit was one to have aliases, why even name him at all in the beginning of this? They could have just left him simply as Gambit. A book shouldn't open with a direct question lke that, it should just be left as a mystery to be explained later. Best not to confuse the audience before the curtain has even gone up. ;)

or maybe that was to signal that this isnt the same Xmen that you are reading in Uncanny or Astonishing. I dont have an issue with it as I liked Gambit until the whole Thieves Guild origin. There just seemed to be something more to him.
Oh and yeah, Gambit and Wolverine could actually make or break this book. Just ask anyone -- besides Deadpool fans - just who they went to see the Wolverine Origins movie for? CC had best be careful just how far off the path he treads....

the books are different from the movies....infact Wolverine was a crappy movie.Wolverine appears in every marvel book and it looks like he wont be in this one. Gambit will be on the team in this one without the melodrama between him and Rogue

he's on the cover of three and five
Where is he on five? I see a guy with glasses. but that could be Scott. When did Gambit ever wear glasses like that?

Wolverine was not a crappy movie, in that I strongly disagree.

I would be happy to see no ROMY in this, but already you can see that CC plans some angst in that Remy is being all chivolrous towards her by giving her his coat, ect. Perhpas CC will kill that but it looks as though he is going along with their romance as scheduled.

I did some quick reviewing and I can see that some of my trouble with this is that while it did not say so in the solicits for the Forever Alpha, there was original content included in it. I didn't buy the Alpha because I already had X-men 1-3. I may have to pick up the Alpha anyhow just to see if I can wrap my brain around where CC plans to go with this. :( So far it hasn't been a good start for me.

sorry I thought that was Gambit. I was looking at a fuzzy pic on my comp.I wont have the issue until Sat.
I look at Xmen Forever like the new Star Trek. Its another time line in which these characters go off in different directions

No, you were right. I Googled some more and yeah, that's Gambit with the glasses. He looks like freakin' Pete Wisdom. :( I hope CC doesn't make him and Pete the same.

I am a big Wolverine fan but I dont like how he became Marvel's Batman or how he is being written recently. The movie was so full of plot holes.
1) Wolverine sees his GF laying in a pool of blood and doesnt investigate and assumes she's dead.So Sabretooth killed her by...not ripping her apart, slashing her throat, ripping open her belly...in fact her clothes are intact.
2)So the big plan was to give Logan the adamantium just to see if it would work so they could do it on Deadpool.
3)The memory erasing bullet????

maybe but I seemed to recall Gambit was attached to Storm at the time

Looks like Gambit is getting a new costume

I have no problem with CC hooking up Gambit and Storm, I think I like that pairing much better than ROMY anyhow. I just don't want him to ignore many of the later Gambit developments that made the character enjoyable to me. But then I can tolerate a lot of AU stuff. I'll have to wait and see. So far though, CC is not wowing me with his story telling is all. He will have to do better. I am looking forward to seeing Sabes on a team, that I have always enjoyed.

But thats the thing a lot of that stuff wasnt in his original plan.I like the fact that a lot of the baggage the xmen have that I didnt like is now dropped.Gambit was a way cooler character to me before they made the whole thieves guild/ created the marauders origin.I look forward to the scene in the danger room where his eye glowed black and the danger room went wonky being explained.

If you read Uncanny before the blue/gold team splits he was close to Storm and was jealous whenever anyone got close to her.
The cool thing is this isnt changing 616 Gambit. If you like that Gambit he is still around in Uncanny. This is how Claremont envisioned the character to be had he never left.

I've read the whole X-men line from Giant Sized #1 so I am familair with the lore. I am curious where CC will go with Gambit, but if it is a direction I don't like, I'll drop the book. Like I said, I can tolerate a fair amount of AU, but not if it so destroys those things that I love most about Gambit. I want my thief with a heart of gold. If I don't get that, then there is no point for me to continue reading this.

Storm and Gambit? But shouldn't Storm and Forge still be together in X-Men Forever?

I'm not sure. :p Been a while since I read that far back. But I think you may be right.

I looked it up just now. Forge proposed to Storm in 1992. They were still hot and bothered by the time Claremont left the X-Men.

Looks like a number of things in normal continuity have been brushed aside. I should be used to this, Loeb does the same thing all the time. :p

We shouldn't expect any less when it comes to Claremont and Storm, really. Storm can be tied down by no single man. Several men with actual ropes over the course of several storylines, sure, but never just one man.

well considering that at the time of the Xmen 1-3 she had returned from the dead and regressed to a teenager and then made into a mutate in genosha before coming back to full age....when has she had time to get in a relationship?

She didnt. She and Forge were an item prior to her death in Fall of the Mutants. She went to Australia, "died" again, became a child, mutate, then was taken up to space before returning in the Muir Island Saga. They never reunited as a couple

exactly in fact after he thought he killed her in Fall of the Mutants

I actually kind of liked it. I don't remember what the dynamic between Jean and Logan was at the time, so that aspect of it was a little jarring. Not unrealistic, mind you, considering that the two characters eventually ended up there (kind of). But I just don't remember it being that in the open back then.

I also have to admit, that this x-period was my least favorite.
It read more like a fan fiction. Jean was not carrying around some torch for Wolverine and in love with him. She was very much all about Scott. Heck she want even hiding her feelings well in Forever as other people were pointing out the attraction she had for Logan.

yeah but those two have always had something going on. Look at Inferno when the x-men fought X-factor and as soon as wolverine finds out she's alive he flat out kisses her.

and how did she respond to that? She telekinetically blasted him away and basically told him to get the F off of her. Things were pretty much one sided with him drooling over her. She wasnt a willing participant actively in love with him as CC portryed her in Forever

she was in that classic xmen story until Angel broke them up

Logan and Jean would just bore me to tears.

Good thing it's not my concern of what's going on in this title.

I finally got the chance to go and pick up this title. I couldn't, however, because it was completely sold out. I only managed to snag the very last copy of Alpha. I hope I will be able to get a copy next week though.
You know, say what you will about Chris Claremont, you can't deny that he has a lot of fans. I'm one of them personally. I won't let some recent years of below-what-is-expected-of-him writing make me forget what he has contributed to the X-men over the years.
