Comics Official X-Men Forever Thread

The problem with that is
Claremont in that interview I linked to doesn't try to hide the fact about Magneto's death because that's essentially the entire basis for the series. However, he does talk about that the first five issues involve the "death of a major character" that, as well as other events that happen within a 24 hour period, have profound and irreverable effects on at least five different characters. Likewise, he also makes allusion to the fact that because Wolverine is essentially indestructable and immortal, there's this notion of invincibility amongst the other X-Men and suggests, although doesn't quite flat out say it, that if Wolverine gets killed, they suddenly realize how vulernable they truly are.

So, as things stand now in this series for the foreseeable future, [blackout]Wolverine is going to die and stay dead, just like Magneto death is, apparently, a permanent thing as well.[/blackout]

and this has my juiced as hell about this series if they are willing to kill him off then every issue anything is game....almost the way Ultimate X-men should have been

so...when Claremont wrote X-Men: The End was that the final days of the X-Men as he saw it through his work or did he work from what had already been established in the book's history since he left (i.e. Legacy Virus, talk about Onslaught, Gambit a Marauder, was Bishop there, etc.)?

He didn't mention Legacy Virus, Onslaught, or Gambit as a Marauder (although he did have a connection between Sinister and Gambit). But he did use characters and situations that were created after he left in '91. Yes, Bishop appeared (and had a daughter by Deathbird); Monet (from Generation X) was in it; X-23; Cecelia Reyes (married to Hank McCoy :woot:); the 3 Cuckoos. Scott and Emma were still a couple (married--with 4 children :wow:). Many, many characters had cameo appearances--although a lot of them got killed in the course of the series.

I think that their are a few possibilities in regards to Wolverine's death.

1. CC is deliberately (and understandably so) is lying about Wolverine staying dead, so as to mislead/convince many fans (who are quite aware of his original plans for the X-Men during his first run) that anything can happen and "stick" in this series.

2. The Wolverine who died in this series was really a clone and the real Wolverine is being held captive somewhere else.

3. That Wolverine has really been killed, but will later be resurrected due to a combination of Fabian Cortez's mutant enhancing powers and the magic and science of the Hand and Spiral.

4. CC just might create a brand new Wolverine who also happens to be another one of Sabretooth's kids.

Gah! Isn't it possible that there is just no Wolverine?

worth the price of the issue alone

"OMG, I'll totally ignore any complaints I've had about Claremont's writing over the past decade because--golly gosh--Wolverine might actually die!" :whatever:

gee maybe i wont bash a writers writing until i read it

LOL! I've read FAR too much of Claremont's writing. I've given him every "second chance" that can be given and tried out nearly every new series hes on just incase its a return to form. It never is. His writing has been, at best, terrible for a long time. Even when i try to read it, by about the third page of a comic I just start skipping out all the caption boxes.

Its not being judgemental, bashing X-Men forever before reading it, its being a realist. This series will blow monkey balls.

1) I have never had an issue with anything he wrote. I liked his Revolutions, Xtreme and Excalibur...so this isnt me ignoring problems because he is going to kill of Logan. This is actually something I've wanted to see for a long time and posted mayn times in the What if's you want to see thread.

Hey guys! How about we give this title a chance before judging it? Its not like Claremont is consistently bad or something. Jeez. Comic book fans. :whatever:

he has been since he returned back in 2000. All of his X related ongoing series since then have been subpar and best ignored.

I'm hoping that now that he has important characters in a universe he once was very involved and interested in, he may put out some better work.

Hoping. I'll certainly be giving this a try, though.

I read his X-Treme X-Men. It was decent for maybe the first half of its run. I read some of Excalibur (vol. 3), and that was half-decent with some somewhat interesting characters. I read his 'XSE' issues of Uncanny X-Men, and those were just bad. Then I gave his New Excalibur a try, and it was also bad. Every time I pick something up by Chris Claremont, he gets progressively worse. Or I just start noticing more of his flaws; I'm not really sure which it is.

This past decade, Claremont fooled me a handful of times. Shame on me. I'm not going to go through the disappointment again by reading X-Men Forever. And the first person to pick up an issue of X-Men Forever then pop into this thread to complain will get a big "I told you so" from me.

You look forward to that.

I'll check the issue out, but I don't have any expectations. I really dug Claremont's early return to the X-Men title and thought he was actually doing some good work. When GLMK II hit though, I was out the door and even then it had more to do with Igor Kordey's art than anything else. IMO, he didn't really drop the ball until New Exiles, even if New Excalibur was already pretty sketchy.

I dont know about that. GeNext is actually pretty good, almost refreshing.
I have nothing but respect for Claremont. Yeah, New Exiles wasnt great but he has done alot of things better than most writers over at Marvel.
X-men Forever looks good and a hell of lot more less convoluted than what's going on in Uncanny and Astonishing.

You know what wasn't very convoluted and had some good storytelling past the first few issues? Young X-Men. And none of you bought it.

[/bitter]

I didnt have an issue with anything he wrote. I didnt like GLMK 2 but it was something he was forced to write since X2 had come out and when read with GLMK took away alot of my issues.
I am excited about this series because it wipes away alot of the stupid BS thats happening in the books now. Xavier isnt an evil d!ck. Scott didnt make out with Emma on Jean Grey's grave, there is no other Summers brother, Kitty is still alive, Beast looks like Beast, Nightcrawler isnt the son of a demon mutant, Wolverine's claws arent bone, Storm isnt married to Black Panther...ect ect ect
