Comics Official X-Men Forever Thread

Didn't Chris Yost write that miniseries where Storm used lightning to take down an X-jet from the other side of the planet without even knowing the jet's location?

She knew the location of the jet. She was able to feel it moving through the atmosphere and was thus able to know exactly where to throw a lightning bolt.

That explanation makes the feat sound more plausible, but no less ridiculous.

You're talking about a series where writers have had Logan come back to life from a ****ing single cellular state.

That also sounds ridiculous.

I have don't get why Cyclops' beams sometimes bounce off of mirrors instead of blasting them to pieces.

Cant he control the power behind the blasts

I swear to God I want to see a Wolverine vs. *insert movie killer here* movie down the line. Nothing but 2 hours of them hacking at each other yet no one can ever get killed.

Wolverine and Freddy Krueger would be pretty fun to watch, I'll admit.

Which he was ONLY able to do thanks to the aid of a magically cosmic crystal.

How did she know the location of the jet and how could she tell that it was the jet she was looking for and not a completely different jet?

Because it was the only airborne jet on the entire planet at the time. Duh.

1) She knew where Cyclops was before he got in the air.
2) She knew he was heading to the X-Men HQ to destroy the X-Men.
3) She probably recognizes the shape of the Blackbird when she "felt" it, and, if it has some kind of unique emissions, she would recognize that as well.
4) Storm can expand her perceptions over large areas. In one story, it was stated on panel that she basically did so across an entire continent. One can be assumed that she's done this on a number of other occassions when she's doing things on a large scale if it makes them feel better. :D

^^ That's just a wee bit too much to swallow, even for me. No one can be that pinpoint precise. Plus, I am sure the X-Jet isn't the the only Blackbird out there.

depending on when the story takes place the Blackbird was decommissioned in favor of the new stealth fighter and bomber

also in regards to her powers I thought it was mentioned that she doesnt create weather but pulls it from another area...Say like if she wanted it to snow in New York so her powers pull the atmospheric conditions from say Vermont to cause it to snow

finally got to catch up on this book and all i have to say is...???? im enjoying some parts of it (mostly the nostalgia) but i find it hard to believe these were actually his original intentions for these characters, and it feels like hes being different for the sake of being different. Sabertooth i can kinda see, but Jean and Logan, Storm's apparent betrayal...to best of my knowledge there are no hints of any of these happening so suddenly (and i spent the passed 2 months reading his back issues).

Jean and Logan have always had something going on. They never had consumated it before.

Storm was "killed" in Uncanny 268, she showed up as a kid in Uncanny 253, in issue 267 we find out that the Storm that was killed was a LMD. Storm returns to the team as a kid with Gambit in tow. Shortly after returning she is kidnapped by Genosha along with the New Mutants. The turn her into a Mutate however because they feel they bit off more than they could chew with Hodges so something is done to "Storm". Storm is now able to activate the X-men powers and regrow at the same time to adult size.
so the potential was there for some tampering with Storm as one minute she's a kid and the next she is an adult. As I do believe that the people watching Storm were Genoshans

before X-Men #1 and the Muir Island Saga the last time Jean and Logan interacted was in Inferno- he plants a kiss on her and she tk blasts him into a tree (or something). she may have liked it but there was no indication that she loved him over Scott or had a hidden rapport with Logan.

yeah but that kiss haunted her by her words. "I should take my own advice. I forgotten the effect Wolverine had on me. That kiss...blast him that kiss."

but its all a moot point as Logan is now dead.

Its not really moot since Cyclops heard her say that Wolverine "was the man she loved."

there might have been a slight attraction on her side but she was never full on in love with the guy. Her actions and feelings here do appear very sudden. Cyclops is a mere afterthought to her in this series and she was ALL about him up until her death. I dont get the sense that she's in love with him here. Its as if she's with him just for the sake of being with soemone

As far as Storm, I have a suspicion that the Shadow King is affecting her

I ust noticed that Iceman isnt in this series. Not surprising though considering in the 30+ years he's written for the X-men, Iceman has never been included on any of his lineups. Usually thats one of the first characters he gets rid of

The man doesn't like Bobby. He really just has a small group of favorites (among them folks like Storm and Kitty), and a small group of secondary favorites, and then no one else matters.

Well judging from the covers, I think Kid Storm is showing up at some point.

Its way more than slight attraction as shown by Inferno. However dont forget that Jean absorbed Madelyn and she was still angry at Scott for leaving her. Jean and Scott werent dating by the time they moved back into the X-men.It was something Claremont was going to touch up on and then he quit...there's a reason why Scott and Jean ended up on separate teams when they went blue and gold.

I think it has more to do with what happened to her in Genosha than anything else

Considering that CC now has up to 20 X-men to play with choosing who to start the book with is probably not a easy thing. Colossus will have a story arc and Beast will become more active. Magik returns and Jubilee will be at Logan's funeral

Scott and Jean started dating soon after Maddie "died" during Fall of Mutants. His marriage to Maddie was what kept them apart but once the saw her die on tv, they finally gave in to their feelings and remained a couple up until Morrison killed her off a few years ago. Jean absorbed Maddie;s consciousness in Inferno, but that did not keep her away from Scott. Maddie remained in Jean as a seperate personality; she didnt influence how Jean felt. They were in love, together and raising his son together, at least until he was forced to give him away

Even if CC was going to do this back in the early 90s, there arent any hints of it in the 3 issues he wrote of X-men, so it at least would have happened gradually. Its just way too sudden and abrupt here which seems to be the biggest problem

its a simple observation that Ive noticed every time he's gotten the chance to write an X-men book. He doesnt seem to care much for Bobby. During his original stint, he used all 4 of the originals + Lorna and Havok with the exception of Bobby. He kept Scott and Jean around after he took over and used Beast as much as possible in a guest role capacity (bc he was locked over in the Avengers at the time). He later added Angel and Havok to his cast and had Lorna in her extended Malice arc and a supporting capacity up until the Muir Island Saga. With the exception of the 2 issue Arcade story around UXM 146 and crossovers (where he had no choice), Bobby pretty much went ignored during his run. He was nowhere to be seen in either of his books during Revolution after he returned in 2000 and Ive also noticed Bobby rarely made guest appearances if any during X-treme or his last Uncanny run. So with that said, Im not surprised that he's a no show in Forever and wont be surprised if he doesnt show up at all.

Okay, now you're being unfair. Every writer is going to have favourite characters. It isn't a crime. I personally find that Chris Claremont tries to give every X-man his/her time to shine. He's a hell of a lot better at that than many current X-writers. No offense, but you just don't seem to like Chris Claremont very much.
