Yeah she definitely isnt black. But they did go out of their way to not make her into a light skinned, straight haired girl.

If they cast Lady Gaga as Ivy, I don't think I could even watch it.

She could do a number...

But yeah...I did think they would get bigger name for Black Canary. Not necessarily Gaga, but a bigger movie actress type of name. But Jurnee seems okay. I will watch "Underground" to get more of an idea of her.

only somewhat salty MEW isn't batgirl, but she will know doubt be great as huntress
excited to see her chemistry with margot

not familiar with jurnee but she must've clicked with the other two or they wouldn't have cast her so i'm definitely willing to give her a shot :)

i like the idea of Ewan or Sharlto as black mask if that's who they're looking at

I’m glad MEW got one of the roles, not 100% bothered which one.

So Sharlto is cast as Black Mask, and he takes off the mask to reveal himself to BOP

girls freak out, movie ends, leads to The Batman

Fox's X-Men universe is ending soon. WB could have cast Sophie Turner as Black Canary.

Gutted it wasn't Winnick she would been bad ass in the role.

Turner can't act, Winnick would be wonderful. I like MEW so that's nice casting. Is she still dating Ewan? Would be cool if they got him unlike Sharlto his participation doesn't scream "flop"

Harsh on Turner and Copley. Turner was simply miscast as Jean I think. To say she's a bad actress is harsh as she couldn't have pulled off what she's done in GoT if she was.

Copley is a fine character actor and the film won't be sold on his name so not sure how he would scream flop.

Um...what has she done in GoT exactly?

Look at box office gross of Copley's movies.

lol, there are black Canaries who they call Black Canary

Got a photo? :cwink:

Black Hawk would be a good superhero name. Unfortunately, its cry isn’t very intimidating. (For that matter, neither is a canary’s.) FYI, the classic raptor cry belongs to the red-tailed hawk. Eagles (etc.) in movies and TV commercials are often overdubbed by red-tail cry. ;nd

Given you're the one who made the original claim I think it should be down to you to explain why you think Turner hasn't developed as an actress in line to what her character arc has demanded on GoT, and also demonstrate the relevance of Copley's box office in a film that won't be marketed around him.

I like the casting.

I’m guessing they pushed for a black actress to probably differentiate this new Black Canary with Arrowverse Black Canary.

Margot Robbie pushed for a diverse cast.

As I understand it, the technical name given to such rare canaries is Onyx Canary. Regardless, why would Dinah choose the BLACK canary to name herself after? If it's just because of her chosen black attire, then okay. But that's no more sophisticated or clever than an alter ego having "Black" in their name either because their clothes or their race or both. So, when people say they took the Black in Black Canary too literally with Jurnee's casting, I can't help but think, "So what?" The "Black" part of her name was apparently literal in some way before, if it was based on the link between a literal black canary and Dinah's black clothes, and it's not uncommon for black heroes to have it in their name, like Black Panther or Black Lightning. Ultimately, I think the name and the casting choice suits the character, and since it seems it was hard to find a dark-skinned Italian or Afro-Italian for Huntress, I'm glad they were able to integrate diversity in their casting with Dinah so organically.
