Oldest Person

I watched a documentary about the humans on this planet that are over 100 years old. It was a sad fact that almost all of them wished for death and were unhappy. Would you be able to live that long and would you be able to go on keeping in touch with the world?

I watched that...it was an insightful documentary..I wasn't surprised when about a third of them had died by the end of the documentary. :o

80 is my limit. If I'm not dead then, I'll do it myself.

There is a lady who lives in my fathers apartment complex who is 102. It is by no means a retirement place and she still walks around with her cane and seems sane and pretty fit to me.

My great grandmother was about 101 and was still pretty coherent and active. Died of natural causes but she wasn't in any pain. I would love to live long enough to see all the stuff she did though.

I have this fantasy of having sex with a 95 year old woman, and since my wife is seven years younger than me, so I HAVE to live to be 102 years old.

:yay:

You know how you see a campfire that's gone out, and there's a charred log in it, and you tap the log and it flakes into ash and powder?
That's what happens to a 95 year old woman's pelvis when you have sex with her.

Wilhelm... in the Oldest Person Thread? How fitting.

I'd like to go on for as long as I can but I suppose the problem with living to such an old age would be seeing many friends and family pass on

If I'm fit enough to do the things that I enjoy now...then sure, I don't mind being old.

and by things that I enjoy...I mean making films. :)

Not if I'm f****king her...

It all depends on your outlook. Sure, most of those folks may have been unhappy. But there are old folks who are happy. The fact is that a lot of people, regardless of age, are miserable. Life is hard, an a good number of the people living it just let it get to them. The main thing that will keep you alive, happy, and sane is looking on the bright side of things. If you're in constant pain, make jokes about it. If you've got no family left, thank your dear and fluffy lord for the friends you do have and remember the people you've lost in a good way. It may seem morbid or simplistic, but it's how people cope. At least, it's how I cope. And that works fine for me.

The sad fact is that most of the old folks are put in old age homes. They don't have much contact with people who are having fun. Old folks need children around to keep them looking at the bright side of life.

Less than 5% of seniors are in long term health care, okay this may be a little out dated since it's been years since I've worked in one. But the fact is folks are living a lot older, hence the article. "Nursing Homes" are ideal for folks that need 24 hour care. I worked as a recreation therapists for many years and I tried my best to come in with a sunny disposition no matter how ****ed up my day is. You'd be surprised how many people we get to come in to volunteer: churches, schools (grade school to universities), neighbors in the surrounding community. So they're not as isolated as some tend to believe. Hell, I've taken people to vote, sports bars, movies...and so on. There have been many positive changes while I was in this field. You could no longer restrain someone, that includes meds as well as physical, with out documentation to justify the need. I think there was a timeline or something to meet that. *sigh* It really has been a long time. :O

There are or at least there were at lot of things wrong with the system but more people have gotten involved to make changes and the gov't has really stepped up the game and making sure places are up to standards.

PS
I use to go around and play my guitar for residents that were semi bed ridden and weren't...um...verbal. Also for people that were on their way out. It was called "Toni Tunes" :woot:

I left after a few years of working with people with end of stage AIDS. It's one thing to have one or two seniors die every few months but to have people so young to go out like a revolving door got to me. :csad:

It's all on their enviroment,if your happy..you don't mind.If your in misery..you want to die.Common sence.

Unless there's sort of magical age reversing drugs by the time I'm seventy, I'm sucking on a shotgun.
