Once can be understood, isn't twice too odd?

Approximately 2 months ago, I received a mail from www.JINX.com. It was on of those confirmation of registration e-mail. I hadn't registered at that site so I thought it would be a mistake, nothing to worry about. But that was not it, there was a mail confirming a place order. It inlcuded the obviuos, amount, items, address, etc. Coincidentally enough the name is my name, but from a person who lives in Glendale, Ca. Some of you might remember I live in Mexico CIty, so that person is definitely not me. I contacted the site and explained the situation and they e-mailed back telling me that they were cancelling "my" account because someone had unathourized access...
That's the end of story 1.
At first I thought someone had been stupid enough to make a mistake registering their e-mail, and even more stupid to place an order without confirming that they had been succesfully registered there...
Proceeding to story 2.
Now today I get an e-mail from www.Gizmos2Go.com. The pattern is exactly the same. The mail confirming the registration has the same info as the previous one (username and password). This e-mail was followed by 2 more confirming and order, and it has the same name, address, etc. This time the order has been cleared for shipping.
Am I being paranoid? Could it just be a mere coincidence? Is some really that stupid?
Should I do something different now? Should I worry?
Please guys I'm looking for serious answers here, because I don't really understand if this is some kind of risk to me, since I buy stuff online but ony through Amazon or eBay.

It sounds like phishing. Check out the email header and the hyperlinks in the email, does it lead back to the official website? If it doesn't, then simply mark it as spam.

It happens to me all the time, they always want me to verify my account at eBay.

Yeah they want me to verify my ebay (which I don't have) or my credit card account (which I don't have either)

Spammity spam.

They really lead to the site they say.

I've received the fake eBay mails Dew mentions, but this somehow seems different...

Sorry it took so long to re:

That's difficult, since you live in Mexico. I don't know what to say, other than that in the States, checking the US Justice Department site is a way to go about seeing whether your ID/social security no./account info has appeared on the grid in strange(areas you've never been to) locations.

Someone mentioned phishing. It might be a hassle, but you could read through this generic explanation of it to compare w/ what you've received.

Have you covered your tracks? Did you use any public/office computers recently to access your financial records (electronic banking, ebay stuff)? Firefox features a good password management, but I'm surprised that average users didn't clear up their stored passwords in cyber cafe computers, revealing it to the next user.

The next sensible step is to change your password immediately, if you are concerned on identity theft. Then, report back to both websites you mentioned earlier to verify that you did not place the order in the first place.

Use their "contact us" form rather than replying back to the email (for gizmos2go). This would ensure that your message will be read by the right person.

I am pretty sure it's not phishing... the mails are from the source. what bugs me the most is that in both cases both the username and password were the same... but totally different form my regular username and certainly not even close to my password,

About covering my tracks, I never ever consult any pruvate matters in any computer that is not my home PC. I never place any order or access to my bank accounts unless it's fomr my PC,

Thanks guys. I already contacted Gizmos2Go but there hasn't been an asnwer so far.

By the way, any of you guys ever heard of those sites before or have used them? I may think its a stupid error from someone if anyone had ever bought from those sites and know they are legitimate.
