^Yeh, you'd think if they do go the mindwipe route (which would tick me off and many Pete and MJ fans)...they mindwipe both Pete AND MJ...or otherwise, it to me would make Pete look like a dope to not do everything in his power to help his mindwiped wife remember she is married...because he would long for her just as any husband who loves his wife would...and would do anything to help her back to normal.

Making MJ forget that she is married to Peter and/or making Peter forget he is married to MJ, does NOTHING to "protect" either one of them. It's BEYOND silly... it makes no sense.

If the entire WORLD still knows that Peter is Spider-Man and that Mary Jane is/was married to him -- and they do -- how the heck does HER forgetting she is married to him make her safer?! It doesn't. Just the opposite.

And if somehow Peter gains the POWER to make her and EVERYONE on the entire plant forget just who MJ is to Peter (because THAT is what we'd be talking about with this senerio), then why doesn't he just make everyone forget who the heck HE is!?

I just don't see how they can go in this direction without it being unbelievably STUPID... not to mention irritating... and a total "deal-killer" for me.

The marriage has been a very special thing in the Comics. I have always loved the marriage and I have never thought it was boring either.

How is MJ "forgetting" going to keep her safe?! Seems like just the opposite. She needs to be on her guard and know why, because the freakin' villains won't forget.

And if somehow Peter gains the POWER to make her and EVERYONE on the entire plant forget just who MJ is to Peter (because THAT is what we'd be talking about with this senerio), then why doesn't he just make everyone forget who the heck HE is!? THAT would be the best way to keep her safe.

Making Pete single....MJ forget....by mindwiping, timesweeping, etc...is only gonna end up with marvel (the only spidey title) losing even more fans. It'll be the clone saga all over again, meaning many fans will leave & some prolly to never return.

I am not understanding how making/forcing Pete single or turning MJ into an amesic superhero helps anything. It only makes things quite absurd imo.

I defintely think we need to have the Marvel world forget Civil War, specifically the hilarious (hard to believe) "unmasking"....but Pete & MJ love each other, period.

It seems that many writers at Marvel and others do not understand what real love is.

They need to progress them, write them intelligently. Not stick to brainstorming the ways in which they can seperate them. This closed-minded thinking, which is all that JQ admits to brainstorming about, (how to break them up) is very forced, feels very forced, and is gonna force fans out the door. He as an editor, for Spidey at least, comes off like a horse with blinders on. We seriously need something more than that, to get Spidey back in the right direction.

If they go the route they appear to be going, I figure we'll be spinning our wheels for a year until they retcon OMD to bring Pete & MJ back together.
Which if they do split them up, we all gotta know deep down, it's only a matter of TIME until they DO reunite them.

And by then, who knows how many fans will decide to return to the title or whatever they call Spider-man comics a year from now.

The thing is, Pete's got the ability to protect MJ as her husband just as much as he does watching her from the shadows...per say.

One could argue, she'd be more protected WITH him at her side at night, where he belongs, as her husband.

How long could Marvel go that route & not make Pete look dopey...writing Pete longing for his wife every issue, but making excuses not to help this very woman he made vows to for better or worse.....keeping afar from her...all in the name of "protecting MJ"....

That would get old after like one issue, imo.

And at any rate, there is more to MJ, than just being a woman who needs to be protected. I'd say that Marvel is cheapening her (women) even more if they try & say that Pete can't ever be with his wife, in order to "protect her". Lame.

If EVERYONE forgets Peter is Spider-Man, then the danger of his identity being known is gone and there is no reason to stay away. Things are essentially the way they were... except MJ doesn't know he is Spider-Man either.

The only way she would forget she was MARRIED to him was if they take it further... if they make EVERYONE forget Peter all together. Are we to assume that nobody remembers Peter AT ALL... that he has NO history with ANYONE??! If he has "no wife" under thoses circumstances, he also has no friends... no family... NOBODY.

Yeah... THAT sounds like an improvement (in someone's pea-brain). They can start ALL OVER... kinda like they tried to do during the clone saga. Except those idiots don't realize they will be stepping in the same mess...

Besides...Hasn't that issue... "I can't get close to anyone lest they be in danger" been dealt with before? Kinda like, "I can't be Spider-Man anymore"? They carry THAT on for very long and it will get VERY tedious and BORING.

A story in which EVERYONE, including MJ, forgets who Peter is MIGHT be entertaining IF it were resolved fairly quickly. If it's a permanent "new" direction, then THAT is not the character or story I want to be reading.

No one will ever remember that Pete was once married to her for 20 years???

That would be kinda dumb, for Dr. Strange (whom i've seen in the art samples to be in OMD) to wipe away people's knowledge of Spidey's secret identity AND everyone's knowledge of their MARRIAGE too..!

Maybe it will be less of a mindwipe and more of a timesweep or alternate reality where Pete is not married or something, but then, it won't jive with the rest of the marvel universe....so it'll be interesting to see how hairy they make things in their quest to break up Pete and MJ.

I am still thinking it'll more of a mystical mindwipe of sorts.

Or, maybe JQ has been joshin' for years now & stringing us along and will instead hire writers who can write the marriage intelligently and progress the couple!

I was thinking this morning....(ha!)....

I am married, and if my wife came down with "marriage amnesia" somehow...(and if i had spidey powers) and just clung to the walls in the distance & did nothing to help her remember us & everything we've shared....WHEN she came out of her memory loss & knew that i had done NOTHING to help her...my wife would NOT BE HAPPY, to say the least...

Any husband or wife who didn't do everything in their power to help their loved one would be acting like a total ape by ignoring that problem. A typical husband or wife, regardless of powers, if written correctly, wouldn't give up on their marriage, just because the one partner came down with amnesia. That makes no sense. So i hope they don't go there. (nor do i want to see them BOTH amnesic, dating other people not realizing that they're cheating on each other...) I think OMD has the potential to turn into a giant mess.

Pete is supposed to be an everyday kinda guy we can all relate to....so if they mindwipe MJ & Pete does nothing to help...it'd be hard to relate to him being so shallow...Plus, how would he explain that to her one day, when they are brought back together. When MJ asks Pete why he let her walk around clueless for a year?? He'd look like a smuck. That's just how it'd look realistically, "Uh..., I was protecting you dear."

How do you know that?

Honestly; if it were up to me, i'd prefer Peter and MJ stay together, but his book is called "The Amazing Spider-Man"...not "The Amazing Spider-Man, and Mary Jane".

Im not going to drop the book just because a supporting cast member gets written out. Especially since she'll more than likely appear from time to time, and perhaps even end up re-married to Peter at a future date.

I've enjoyed the whole Unmasking/Civil War/Back In Black thing, but personally, im more than ready for a return to some type of status quo.

If that status quo happens to exclude MJ, then...oh well.

Well........i just don't know.....i will prolly drop the book if they do break up the marriage. I don't care to see them mindwiped or what-have-you.

Nor do i care to see MJ dating Pete, (again), or in love triangles with her husband (tho walking the street clueless & not knowing it). Nor do i care to see them re-marry...

This is a total lack of progression & a big step backward. I've already been there when they dated, and i've already seen them marry.

Geez, if they go that route with Peter and M.J. seperating again I'm done until a new editoral staff comes in and replaces J.Q. We've been down this road once before and it was boring and drawn out then, as a long time reader of Spider-man, I have no desire to read it again.

Don't get me wrong about things, but some of the things have been interesting: CIVIL WAR and BACK IN BLACK. But if it comes down to a seperation again I really can't say I'll have much more faith in Quesada. I'm enjoying what they've done to the Hulk, but they've screwed Spidey royally in some departments.

Give the universe a mind-wipe, but keep Spidey and those who are close to him out of it. There's no need to repeat the reveal to M.J. again or any reason for that matter. Peter and M.J. are one of the solid parts of continuity and he's happy with her. Take her away and he's got nothing. Something Peter doesn't need to go through again if they do take Aunt May out of the equation again for the second time.

Oh noooo.... I HOPE he was speaking metaphorically!

I read something like that in the newsarama interview... "Peter is the unluckiest person on earth" or some such nonsense.

There are a LOT of things I like about the old stories... but the ole "can't pay the rent, can't get a date" thing has been done to death in the past and a little of that can go a LONG way. (As in, gets real old, real fast.)

I expect Peter's personality, ethics and tendency to be driven by the "immediate," rather than "plan" for the future, to keep him from ever being named among the rich and famous. And life as a superhero with a SECRET identity is naturally going to have plenty of trials. But to think that it means he has to be chronically STUNTED in his personal life?! UGG.
