One More Day Discussion Thread

It doesn't matter, because what did happen sucked monkey balls.

What did happen gave us an infinite amount of possibilities for the entire marvel universe. I can see where people don't like the story, I get that. I can even see where people are so pissed off about it they're gonna quit buying Marvel comics or Spider-mans, or comics all together. It's the fact that day in and day out (moreso on Newsarama and a few others than this place, as the marvel boards have been pretty quiet and I don't go to the spiderman boards) people ***** and moan about every decision the heads make.

To see this story as a "it completely ruined everything and nothing is ever going to fix it short of a direct retcon and in which case I'll be dropping the books anyway because it was a cheap way out" is moronic by far.

Didn't Joey say it doesn't really affect most of the Marvel universe?

And that's why a s**t load of questions are being asked about how much this f**ks up everything?

It doesn't have to effect most of the Marvel universe, but it has potential to shake the foundations of it. That's what's so key about it.

You know I'm so sick and tired of everyone *****ing a fit about this decision the to do this. We have NO ****ing clue what is going to happen out of all of this. I both liked the story and don't like it at the same time. In one hand, it is an AMAZING story, but on the other hand it screws up a lot of stuff in the marvel universe.

People *****ing saying they're never going to buy comics and that they all hate the fans are ****ing morons. Plain and simple. How many copies do you think this last issue sold? Hell, how many copies do normal issues of ASM sell? Something like 100k give or take?

There's what, maybe 500 people that are superpissed about this whole thing that I've come across, and thats from a good pool of resources. In fact, the manager of the LCS I go to said that the last issue of ASM sold faster than the death of Cap issue, and the unmasking of Spidey issue. He doesn't like the idea of the marriage being broken up, but he doesn't see why people don't give it a goddamn chance.

Ah yes, the inevitable "im gonna ***** at the *****ers post" :whatever:

Perhaps fans feel like they've ALREADY given it a "goddamn chance", several times in the past what with Sins Past, organic webbing, The Other, mysterious powers that Peter uses once then we never see again, limited series such as Kingpin, Doc Ock: Year One, and Venom/Carnage that ignore established continuity, and last but not least the Un-masking? Perhaps you'd like to enlighten us on just how many "goddamn chances" we're supposed to give?

I think for a lot of fans who have had the rug pulled out from them time and time again by Straz and Quesada, this was the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back. I dont see why that sounds so unreasonable to you.

I think besides the usual message board complaining, the majority of fans have been VERY patient with the books the past three years or so.

At what point is enough enough?

Gee, and here I thought that undoing the marriage and opening a wealth of possibilities for both Parker, and the entire universe would grant a "I wonder what they actually plan on doing with this".

You honestly think that Joe Q is just like "alright, we need to do away with the marriage, what's the quickest easiest D-E-M way of doing this, to where there's 0 repercutions and we can just go on like it never happened"?

Yes. I do. Have you been sleeping in class? He's been looking for a cheap way out of the marriage for at least five years now, going all the way back to an interview he gave at Hero Realm.

He's been looking for a cheap way, yes. But it's not like he's ever said that he's just going to abolish the whole thing and be done with it. You should know damn well that he has a plan for this whole thing. Weather it be now, a year from now, or even three years from now, you better believe that there is a whole 'larger' reason behind all this.

Considering the carelessness with which the developments of the last two/three years were done away with, I don't really expect Joey Q to have that much of a big plan.

Uh-huh. And you know this....how exactly?

Because I have faith in the comic company that has been shelling out mostly good stories for the past 60 years.

A few mishaps here and there doesn't change that fact.

Why would anyone even care what happens to a "Peter Parker" who would make a deal with a Demon? That deal makes all the foundations built for the character (and therefore our interest) erode.

Turning Peter Parker into Barney also opens an infinite amount of possibilities, it doesn't make it any less stupid.

The same reason people care what happens to a "peter parker" who runs around threatening to kill people and going bat**** crazy over various people because his aunt got shot and is dying. Emotional attachment and the fact that it's going to end up going somewhere.

You can't honestly tell me that if you were in his shoes, and I mean in his shoes 100% through everything that you wouldn't of taken that deal as well. The deal makes him human. And in a world robots flying around and giant green monsters comming, where people can kill the planets population through mind-powers and where theres always some kind of outside force invading earth, sometimes you have to have someone act like the human he is and make the big mistakes.

Him having to live with the fact that he got his aunt killed would have made him "human" too. Actually woulda been a better status quo change than hocus pocus cop out number 7b.

Yeah and him not wanting to accept the fact that his aunt is gonna die by his hands basically and making a deal with the devil makes him human too. Actually is better than just killing her off and having him super-emo for the next 5 years.

You know aside from the obvious Aunt May dying in like 10 minutes because of some random accident comment I really wonder how much of the whole unknown factor really will turn into the same old stories. I mean they brought back Harry and he's probably going to be Pete's best bud again. So really how long until we go down the Harry gets jealous at Pete road again. If they wanted to give us new possibilities then they just should have added stuff on. Reteconing a bunch of stuff ala the emoboy prime punch takes away the old stories but it doesn't give us anything new.

Also lying to ones customers is generally considered a bad thing marvel. Next time you say one thing have the stones to stick with it. I mean if they lie with this then the assurance of Tony Stark not being a skrull goes completely out the window. Its just a horrible idea for them to have done.

He's super emo all the time. Wouldn't be much of a difference except this time it woulda been understandable. Besides, if his memory of the marriage and what he did is gone....then how can he grow from this? It's a restart. There will be no character development from this. This is simple moving Pete back to the way he was twenty years ago.

Which you know, with all the said things that have sucked lately, you'd figure that you guys would want a restart.

Oh me? I don't care. never really liked Spidey. I'm just kinda buzzed and decided to join in on the b***hing.

Changing the way a character acts because he's been written poorly is a whole different animal then changing a character by emoboy punching a part of the character's history out of existence.

I think SouLeSS that had Slott been given the title without the kind of baggage that OMD has given him that we'd have the first option. Instead we've got the second and alot of people aren't happy with that kind of editorial device to liven up a character or comic.

This is a really big screw up the bullpen has put together. I really think we're looking at another Clone Saga Exodus when all is said and done. In fact, I kinda hope it happens.

SouLess apparently hates the concept of character progression.
