One More Day Discussion Thread

I am not a fan of Mary Jane and even more I am not a fan of Joe Q. But for the most part MJ is attached to the very core Spiderman mythos and it hurts not see her w/ Peter. Marvel will need to rectify this and stop screwing up continuity. Spiderman touches to many areas in the Marvel U. He's Kevin Bacon in the "Seven Degrees" game. So you touch him you affect a whole lot of stuff (example Civil War, Secret Invasion--he could have been a Skrull who asumed Parker was Spiderman, etc)
Six degrees, actually. But the rest was good. :)

The things not even out yet. He was probably turning things around this Summer, when we were still *****ing about Civil War.

I'm still gonna hold put hope for spidey...right now he is a victim of bad writing, stupid mistakes and ideas. Its time for Joe Quesada to go the way of Old Yeller

Not really. I'm just suggesting the possibility that he could be on Spider-Man for a long time.

Yeah, you suggested that possibilty in response to someone stating that he doubts Slott could turn things around. Things are going down the ****er, dude. Get back to being a hopeless cynic with me.

I still believe that they'll be turned around eventually. Just not anytime soon. Hence my comment.

Comics are cyclical by nature, like I always say. Spider-Man's had bad patches with terrible decision-making before and he'll likely have them again.

Comics are cyclical sometimes. A lot of the time, they just get worse and worse.

With all the anger towards One More Day (which very deserved IMO) there's something that has been overlooked. Right around the time that part 3 of One More Day came out, there was a rumor posted first on Alvario's comicboards that said part 4 would not only have it where Peter and MJ would except Mephisto's deal to have their marriage erased (which ended up happening) and that the unmasking would also be mindwiped (which also ended up happening) but that only Mary Jane would remember everything. How much you want to bet that's what she whispered to Mephisto? "Let Peter forget completely and let me remember everything."

I would also speculate that it's because she remembers everything that this is why she gains superpowers and becomes Jackpot as rumored. Why? Well, my theory is that because MJ remembers the "real world" and knows full well that the "Brand New Day" world is an "altered world," she is able to bend the physical laws of this "altered world." Based on the preview art we've seen and the "Swing Shift" story, this would give "powers" like enhanced strength, agility, speed, and (she apparently survives a punch from a surprised and apologetic Spidey in one of the previews) durability. In other words, she's basically become Trinity from the Matrix in a disco outfit instead of biker leather.

However, the poster who first posted the rumor also added that Mary Jane can tell Peter what reality used to be like because it would cause a "timeline shockwave" which would ripple through all of reality. bet that at the end of the Guggenheim arc, we're going to see Mephisto show up before her and tell her that if she thought she could just tell Peter what the world used to be like and get him back that way, she can, but it will result in fracturing all the other realities. In other words, if she tells Peter that this isn't how reality is supposed to be and that they are supposed to be married, then she could end up destroying the universe.

Of course, you know sooner or later that the truth is going to come out because having something like that is going to be followed up on. Thus, Marvel has essentially planted a seed for their own "Crisis" and will get crossovers between various realities a la "Zero Hour" as a result, which I imagine would be the various Marvel heroes form various "worlds" banding together against Mephisto and various villains from other worlds to restore reality back the way it was. After all, Joe Q is on record saying that "If we ever had a crossover between the 616 and the Ultimate universe, you'll know that we've run out of ideas." Which, of course, given how he's blatantly lied in the past translates as "we've got one already in the works."

The idea of Mary Jane being the only one that knows the truth is an interesting plot but a “Marvel Crisis” would be a horrible idea. I mean they make Peter look like a crying ‘mamas’ boy or should I say ‘auntie’s’ boy by basically saying he would rather have his century year old aunt live who should be dead by now than being w/his hot model wife and possible child. Then they want to ruin the flagship hero even more by making him the catalyst for a possible Marvel version of a DC concept that has been beating to death (Crisis and Zero Hour). Joe Q resign right now. Don’t force your personal wants on all of comicdom. They basically have ‘crisis’ on their hands w/ him in charge but w/ Secret Invasion in place a lot of continuity can be cleaned up. Just let MJ remain as is minus superpowers and let your creators come up w/ a better idea to clean up what you f’ed up Joe. I’m sorry…I thought I was sitting in his office. Maybe Joe's goof has affected the movie continuity and Spiderman 3 has become a little better.

Lets not even entertain the idea of a Marvel Crisis as a possibility. If they do that, they might as well just time it with one of DC's crises and join the two companies together.

I remember back when Marvel filed for Chapter 11, the internets were on fire with rumors that DC would buy them out and the universe would eventually combine.

Because honestly, this thread needs more pictures.

Look at how Venom smiles. You know Eddie is gonna tap that...

Well, unfortunately, and despite Joe Q's protests to the contrary, they've certainly planted the seed for one to possibly take place in One More Day. Couple this with Bendis' upcoming "Secret Invasion" which basically is establishing that various characters from who knows how far back are actually Skrulls (i.e. some characters we like may actually have been phonies) and Loeb's "Ultimatum" crossover in the Ultimate line, then you certainly have it all set-up for the next step in having a event that crosses over into various other lines. Heck, they've already done crossover between Ultimate and Marvel Zombies and Ultimate and Supreme Power, so it's not that much of a stretch to have a crossover between the 616 Marvel and Ultimate Marvel.

The Marvel Zombies originated from the Ultimate Universe.

That explains why I didn't flinch. I dropped the Ultimate line around the time the Marvel Zombies came around.

It's stupid to argue who would have done what, because logic has been thrown out the window with this story. The characters are acting out of character, and things are conveniently forgotten or ignored to make the story "work".

gee,..

Ya think?

Your ridiculous optimism about Slott's BND is blinding you.

Why don't YOU just SHUT THE F^%#^%#CK UP?!?!?!

We've all heard your rants about OMD and how Dan Slott was a part of of the picture.

And you can stop buying Spider-Man and Marvel comics from hereonin. I really don't care.

But a LOT of us "fanboys" are generally excited about Slott's arrival on ASM, and I'm pretty sick and tired of listening to little weiner crybabies like yourself go on and on and on...

Do us all a favour and complain to your blow up doll... because we're all tired of it AND your put-downs to anybody that says they will buy BND.

If I buy BND, that doesn't make you the "better" comic book reader nor does it put me in that status... so I'd appreciate you stopping with putting those of us who may actually be excited about this new era in Spider-Man's history.

Thank you for your time.

Mike

A lot of fanboys are generally excited about Slott's arrival? What, after what happened to OMD?

I'll count for the other 'few' which won't be buying BND, regardless of whose working on it. OMD is an awful, awful idea, and instead of arriving in a 'new era' of Peter's history, we're just retracing our steps back to the seventies...
