One Scene that I know X2 screenwriters would have done better

FOX messed up X3 even before they started filming when they told Ratner "No Cyclops". If Singer directed X3, everyone would have got the movie they were told they were gonna do on the X2 DVD. Ratner just gave in to FOX stupid demaded thinking they know what the fans want. Wolverine, Wolverine, Wolverine! What idiots.

The movie would have worked so much better if they didnt kill Cyk in the first 25 minutes. Instead of killing him, he could have been knocked out and they would have found him next to Jean. Then there would have been more conflict with Cyk and the X-men over having to kill Jean. Then it would have been him string to get to Jean at the end, but Jean wouldnt try to disintegrate him when she sees him the good Jean would break though and they would run and hug each other. But then Jean would tell Scott to kill her now but Cyk would refuse so then the Phoenix would take over and kill Scott and his died words would be "I love you". Then, Al of a sudden Wolverine, who was near bye, charges at her when he sees what she did to scott and... u know the rest.
how do you know that. Singer wanted so much for x-2 as well, but many things were scraped. If fox don't want cyce than even singer wouldn't be able to give him a major role. also he didn't give him that big a role in the first two movies. ideas are always fine. it always starts good, but at the end not that much survives. ratner did good job at saving what was there to save. i for one am thankfull to him. he still delivered a good movie.

it focuses on that because wolverine is the fan favorite,

I guarentee that Singer had it in mind to have logan get rejected by Jean, making him become more of an outcast in his X3, instead of the candy cane version Ratner gave us...... we would have saw cyclops be the leader in x3, and logan be the strong badass type if Singer did it, instead we got a dead cyclops and a lolipop wolverine....
again, who knows what fox would think of that. it's clear that fox wants wolverine to be the main focus, especially when wolverine spinoff is also coming.

I don`t know...Jean was always Wolverine`s great love to me. Anyway to me I never bought James whatever as Cyclops to begin with and him and Femke never had chemistry. So THAT Cyclops killing Jean(or her making him kill her or something) would have felt fake. Just like any other mutants killing another mutant. I`m an X-Men fan but i`m also part of the movie audience like any other than watched it and for the audience Wolverine was the hero. So it`s a greater impact for him to do this than a mutant like Mardsen played who never was written as that important. It would be like Collossus saving the day and everybody would be like: who? Considering we haven`t seen much of him.

Well, it would be a lot better than the **** we got, and then we would have gotten a great fourth movie as well focusing on the Dark Pheonix and the X-Men struggling to get the proper Jean back. And it would have been a proper Dark Pheonix as well, not the crazy-horny ***** we got instead.

Oh you mean the horny Carrie on steroids Phoenix?

BTW, in the movie it's explained that Jean's insanity is due to a repressed personality that has been beaten down for years until it finally got angry and wanted to explode and come out, and her dying was the act that instigated that. Except that this second personality existed in her for years and even came up with a name for itself. It called itself the Phoenix, but why??? Why would it call itself that? That personality had nothin to do with fire, or birds, or rebirth, or life after death. This kind of sloppy last-minute writing actually makes the movie worse because there's now absolutely no connection between the whole concept of the "phoenix" and this alter-ego that's been hiding inside Jean. what the hell?

For the most part, we'll never know what Bryan Singer and his writing team (Michael Dougherty, David Hayter, or Dan Harriswould) have made X3. However, from listening to DVD commentary on X2, I do believe they would have written a better conclusion to the "Dark Phoenix Saga" that was both respectful of the original comic book and make it even better. Here's a quote from one of the X2 screenwriters on the DVD commentary:

“In the [comic] book, it’s such a beautiful moment where it’s just her and Cyclops. And she says ‘I got too much power; I can’t handle it; I have to go.’ She basically uses a giant gun to kill herself right in front of Cyclops. I wanted to take that one step further and have her bring Cyclops up to her. And say, “I can’t be allowed to live; I can’t allow this to go on.” She uses Cyclops’s own beams to destroy her – which I think is what made the studio nervous about doing it because it was really disturbing, upsetting, and psychologically scarring for Cyclops; but I knew it would kick ass for the X-Fans. So like I said it got cut along the way.”

I'm pretty sure they mean that Jean would remove Cyclops visor and telekinetically force Cyclops to open his eyes. So Cyclops is helpless and has to watch himself kill the woman he loves.

The X2 screenwriters cut this scene from X2 because they felt that "Dark Phoenix Saga" was too soon in the movieverse and because of Fox's hesitation. I do think this would be a great ending for Jean destroying herself rather than have Jean ALLOW wolverine to kill her.

  Thatwould have been a perfect ending!!!!! It would have made x3 much more popular!

I have to agree with you on many notes. If you watch X2 again and pay attention to the scenes that allude to the Phoenix, Jean mentions nightmares and you see the firebird at the end of X2. But what I don't understand is why ProfX mentioned what he did at the Xmansion closing scene. Abount Jean feeling like she'd been left behind. ProfX was speaking like he'd manipulated her. More like he'd mentored her during her progress. ProfX was way out of character in X3.

Yeah, you can even see a shadow with a bird shape at the end of the movie... and I agree with the character of the prof. X. Why does he have to SUDDENLY (and I mean it, suddenly) become a DRY person. He's stiff for no reason. You might say "Well, the Phoenix is coming, there is a reason" but there's no development. He's the wise, peaceful, and thinker Profesor Charles Xavier, for god's sake! How can he possibly "make business" with the Phoenix, by saying "you're dangerous to everybody, look what you've done to Scott!" and he says NOTHING about the cure. NOTHING. Poor Charles. Damn Ratner.

Could we just say the whole movie? I mean sure there are some scenes here and there but I see the whole movie that can be rewritten to be better from the X-2 writers.

Basically, yeah. You can watch the individual scenes, some of which are actualy neat. But the whole movie as a whole just doesn't work or add up. I personally cannot stand to watch the whole film from end to end again. And Majik, actually some people (including yours truly) have been working on rewriting the film so it actually works and fits in with the other two. It's the only we'll ever be able to get a good night's sleep :)

He goes from a kindly, wise, father-figure to someone who doesn't feel the need to explain himself or justify his actions because he's so much better and wiser than everyone. No wonder Jean would have been so ticked off at him! If that's the case then he got exactly what he deserved. Now for fun, if you consider Scott to be alive but missing in action (moved out of the area, shoddy search effort by Logan, etc) then that scene is even better. Now the character would look even more stupid and misguided for trying to imply to Jean that she killed someone she didn't, and won't even give her a chance to explain herself.

That and my other complaint that the name "Phoenix" that her alter-ego gives itself has absolutely no correlation to the events that were portrayed in the film or led up to them. If this is something that was slowly developing inside Jean, then why on earth would it call itself the Phoenix? She couldn't possibly know that she would die in 20 years while achieving nirvana with a fiery energy force, only to be reborn.

That and the fact that split personality or not, after having unselfishly sacrificed herself to save everyone, Jean comes back as someone that's indicated wouldn't hesitate to kill them all... I just can't buy that. It works in zombie and vampire movies, but I just cannnot buy it here.

I will say I liked the plot of X-3 it was just delivered terribly. Have the cure the main plot of X-3, have Jean rise again but doesn't go Dark Phoenix till the end of the movie so that X-4 is all about the Phoenix Saga. The real Phoenix Saga. Doesn't have to include outer space.

I have the same thing, ntcrawler: some scenes are quite good, but I can't watch the movie from start to finish. To be more specific: I can watch the movie with being annoyed a couple of times, untill the point in the final battle where Phoenix is unleashed. I can't watch it any further, because I can stand watching Wolverine doing what Cyclops should be doing.

It's quite a contrast with how good other scenes are: Angel's origins, Jean waking up, Angel to be given the cure and the professor's death.

I can't deny it. If it was at least done the way you described, it would have worked alot better. It would also have made much more sense if her going to the dark side was due to being manipulated by the bad guys like the Hellfire club. And yes outer space and eating stars is not necessary. Seriously damaging or levelling a town would be just as dramatic.

After seeing SR, and hearing about what they wanted to include (Emma Frost, Phoenix as an evolution of Jean, more scenes for James Marsden) I'm pretty sure it would've been more in line with Superman Returns. Which would have worked very well for the last part of a trilogy (with a big battle at the end.) But that's just my opinion haha

My idea for how the ending should have gone

Scott: Jean! It’s me Scott!

Jean: Scott!? No it can’t be. I…I killed you.

Scott: You’re not the only one to rise from the ashes.

Jean: Scott why are you here?

Scott: I’m here to bring you home, baby.

Jean: No. It’s too late. I can’t go back. I killed people. I’m a monster.

Scott: No you’re not. That wasn’t you! It was the Phoenix.

Jean: I am the Phoenix. I’m life and death incarnate and every day, every minute I’m here I’m danger to everybody. Scott you have to save me.

Scott: How? How can save you, my love?

Jean: Open your eyes darling.

Scott: No. It’ll kill you Jean!

Jean: Scott. I can’t live like this. I love you too much to keep hurting you.

Scott: And this isn’t hurting me? No! I need you Jean! I came back for you!

Jean: I know and it means the world to me. Now be brave. Be my hero and give me one last kiss.

Scott: Jean I…
(She presses her lips against his and the kiss. Slowly she forces his eye open with her telekinesis)

Jean: You have beautiful eyes.

Scott: Jean stop doing this!

Jean: I love you Scott. I’ll never forget you.

Scott: I love you Jean! Don’t leave me I can’t lose you again. You’re everything to me, you’re my heart.

Jean: I’m not you’re heart Scott I just lived in it. Goodbye my love.
(Jean stops holding his optic blasts back and she is incinerated by them)
Scott: Jean!!!!!

Jean: I love you…

What do you think?

Exactly, they ****ed so much with this movie its unbelievable, there is absolutely no reason, for this 'other personality' of Jean's to call itself the Pheonix, its just pathetically random.
