IC: Darkseid
"Asgardian."
Darkseid smiled. Thor, son of Odin One-Eye, flew at him. He stood impassively as the mystically charged Mjolnir smahed into his face, sending him flying backwards. He landed in a heap, but still the smile remained as he wiped the blood from his face.
"I must confess that I was curious as to whether or not you could hurt me, god of the lightning and the thunder. It brings me no small sense of satisfaction to know that you can't," he said as he rose. Again the Asgardian charged him. Thor was a warrior god, and they tended to be rather stupid in Darkseid's experience.
He caught Thor's hammer as it swung down. Lightning swirled around them. Thor grunted with effort, trying with all his vast might to force the hammer upon Darkseid. But the Lord of Apokolips stood fast, restraining Thor with one hand.
"You Old Gods always were fools, Thor. You have no concept of power. You face Darkseid, the Lord and Master of Apokolips now. I will send your broken carcass back to Asgard, proof to your father that Earth is mine."
He flung Thor into a nearby building, caving in a whole section of it on top of Thor. Darkseid stood still as moments later Thor emerged from the ruin.
"Whelp! Thou face the son of Odin in open battle and think victory thine?! Thou fool!" Thor stood, Mjolnir crackling with mystical force. "I have watched ye burn this world, this place of heroes and myths. Thou presence here is an offense unto mine kind. Thou art a cancer of this plane, Darkseid, and I shall excise thee."
Darkseid knew the fool's plan, of course. It was about as subtle as he could expect from the ever-prideful, ever-arrogant Thor. He stood, hands clasped behind his back, as Thor gathered ever more mystical energy into Mjolnir, his hammer. Thor braced himself as, moments later, he unleashed a tremendous blast of lightning Darkseid.
The sheer force of it staggered Darkseid back. Pain rolled across his chest as the lethal energies wrapped around him. He began laughing, a dark sound that echoed off of the buildings around the pair of gods.
"So this is the fabled power of the Old Gods? This pathetic display of light and power? You disappoint me, Thor. I had expected much better of you." Darkseid walked slowly forward, like a man struggling against the tide. Each footstep cracked the asphalt of the road he walked on. "Perhaps I spoke too softly, earlier. I swore to break you, little Asgardian, and that is what I shall do."
In moments, he stood before Thor, mystical power in the form of lightning still flowing from Mjolnir. In one swift move, Darkseid grabbed Thor's arms and threw Thor to the ground. He stood above the Asgardian, smoke rising from Darkseid's tremendous form. He had begun to breathe heavily. He knelt down and picked Thor up by the neck. He regarded the god of thunder like an insect for a few moments. Hatred and frustration shone in Thor's eyes. Raising his other hand, Darkseid slapped Thor in the face, again and again.
"Foolish, stupid little godling. You really were not prepared for this battle." Darkseid then heard an odd whistling sound. He a moment to turn his head around before two green objects smashed into him, and enveloped him in fire.
"Put the god down, Darkseid."
Darkseid dropped the barely conscious Thor and turned to face his assailant. The objects, whatever they were, had not hurt him, yet he desired to know who had the temerity to interrupt his battle. In an alleyway off the street, a man in green tights, his eyes obscured by a mask and wielding an ancient Earth weapon stood. "And who are you, who would interrupt this battle of gods?"
"The name's Green Arrow, scum, and I'm gonna take you down. We Earthlings don't bow before tyrants."
Again, two of the odd green objects flew at him, enveloping him again in fire and smoke. When the explosions had cleared, Darkseid stood with a disdainful expression on his face. So this was the being that had defeated Kanto 13. Pathetic.
With a tone of disappointment, he said, "Ah. Just another bug to be squashed."
Beams of force leapt from Darkseid's eyes and struck the one called Green Arrow, sending the Earthling flying. They would not kill him, for he was fated to be the next Kanto, and Apokoliptian tradition had to be preserved.
Darkseid turned around then and again faced Thor, who had finally stood up. "Thou cannot win, Darkseid. Thou must know this to be true."
Darkseid strode forward, a look of anger crossing his face. "There you are wrong, Thor. I will win today, at this place, in this time. Who is going to oppose me?" He strode forward, and punched Thor in the head, sending the winged helm flying off. Such was the force of the blow that a sonic boom erupted, shattering the glass of nearby buildings.
Thor, like all Asgardians, had taken the form of man when they chose to watch over Earth as its gods. This form had given them a weakness, though none of them would admit to it. Darkseid grabbed Thor, and lifted him above his head. The Norse god tried to struggle, but too much of his power had already been expended. Darkseid brought Thor down across his knee. There was a massive crack heard as the spine of the god shattered. Darkseid stood, the broken body of Thor at his feet.
Truly, who now could stop him?
