<Superman>

I arrive in New York,flying into Manhattan.I had not realised how huge this city was,on my first visit.Probably due to the robot attack...

I try to think of where the Baxter Building is located.This isn't the time to forget something like that,after all...

I then remember seeing it from The Empire State Building,which I'm heading towards.Flying up,to the top,I look out at the city.Great Krypton...You can see everything from here.

It's so...

I look down,hovering in the air.The buidling below me...it looks familiar.I look up,at the buildings infront of it,and...sure enough...The Baxter sits at the edge,before the street splits the array of buildings.

Without a second thought,I zoom down towards it,slowing my speed upon my approach.

Wait...Dr.Richards is already there.Good,than I don't have to risk breaking an entering...

"Richards!"

He looks up,as I float down,and land,infront of him.

"We have a problem."

I pray he can figure out a way to fight this new threat.Because,honestly...I fear,even with my power,that I won't suceed against the invasion.

Brock>

It all seems to go so quickly. In moments my control is gone, and so am I...

<Venom>

It all goes so quickly. I... Not I... WE! Hurl Ourselves at the door, and our arm breaks through it, just missing the scientists worthless, tiny little head. We’re huge now, bigger than any human, our hand would fit easily around his head. Alarms begins sounding, loud and booming and we feel a shred of pain, but not enough.... We could squeeze...

He’s gone, run off screaming. Obviously thought the door would hold us. Guards are beginning to appear, each packing heat. We smile at them, our huge misshapen tongue licking our teeth, slime from it dripping to the ground. A couple of them drop their guns and run, the rest - the stupid ones, they want to run... But they won’t.

‘KILL THEM!... kill..."

One of them fires, and we feel ourselves get hit, but it doesn’t hurt. It’s like being being bit by an ant... Nothing. The keep on firing.

We jump at them, moving to fast for them to react, the screams all join together, beautiful music in our ears. We grab two in each hand and smashing them into the ground. Then we see the way that we came when we were just Brock. A smile covers our face, and the tongue behind the teeth feels them, huge and jagged. We begin to walk down the corridor, with that single objective in mind. Kill. We still cannot make it out, it wants us to do something specific... But we do not know yet.

But first we would deal with someone who was getting in our way.

Time to pay the wife a visit.

Dinah glanced at herself in the large mirror one last time before entering the dinner room.
The dinner was being held at one of the huge rooms in the Gotham Museum. It was used especially for occasions like this. The whole room was actually from a 17th century castle in France. The ornately carved and gilded panels framed the hand painted pictures of the country side and the ceiling was painted like to look like a blue sky with fluffy clouds.

Dinah looked around and waved at the few people she knew. Her large engagement right conspicuous on her hand. She’d decided that there was no need to make a fuss about it, nor would she break up with Tony without telling him first.
She was a human first and a semi-celebrity second.

I smiled and gave the man at the door my ticket.

“Thank you, Miss Kyle.” He said before motioning me in.
I stopped and looked around I’d entered into a huge corridor of the museums south end. Its nine story roof stretched above us and the skylights allowed the dark evening sky to look down on me. Its stars hung like little diamonds.

Speaking of diamonds, I turned my head down and touched the strand around my neck. They were the ones Holly had picked out in our whirlwind shopping trip yesterday.

“Selina!” I turned at the woman’s voice. It was just the right tone to catch someone’s attention without yelling, something that was frowned down upon in these circles.

Mallory Moxon came into view; a pretty flowy pink evening gown flattered her figure. She came up to me smiling.
“I love how you paired the boots with the dress it’s very chic.” Waved to a couple of elderly people as they walked by, following the brass frames signs with tasteful arrows on them.

“I’d like to have you as my guest this evening, so I can introduce you to people of interest.” She winked at the last word and setting her hand on my arm for a second she motioned me to follow her through the large hallway. I looked around as I walked the lights were dim encouraging, despite the size an intimate yet lofty feel to the hallway. Large pieces of art hung on the wall and in little wall niches vases and small sculptures were displayed. My eyes casually took in the laser security system they had. The discreetly hidden system hide from eyes not trained for it. I could just barely see the little red glows set into the walls around and over the pictures and niches. I checked my outfit in a large mirror before Mallory led me into a large and bright room set up with round dining tables.

It was a large departure from the nearly silent and calmingly dim lite hallway into this room which was gilded floor to ceiling in gold. There weren’t many lights but the lights there were bounced off the walls creating making the light int;s self gold. Along the walls candles were set at intervals themselves in gilded candelabras set into the wall.

I moved my mouth into a whislte but made no sound.

For my first time to the museum I was throughly impressed.

“Oh, Hello!” Mallory waved and started to circulate, her arm linked through mine I followed acting the part of a shy new socialite.

He hadn't been able to identify the compounds, of course. After the knock down, drag out fight he'd had with Kanto, he'd snuck into Queen Industries R&D and used various forensic equipment with the aid of some user manuals, of course, to try and figure out what the bolts were made of. Nothing he had access to could identify what the damn things were made of, that or he just wasn't reading the printouts right.

He'd mulled over what to do with them the next day. some discrete bandages, a nice suit, and a story that he'd fallen down some stairs in his new apartment was all he'd needed to explain his injuries at work.

It was while looking over a report on his holdings in Russia that a thought came to him. Reed Richards could figure out where those bolts came from and what they could do. After all, if a mind as great as Reed's couldn't figure it out, then odds were Olliver Queen would never be able to.

So, he'd gotten a simple cardboard box and some packing peanuts and prepared the package. Each bolt was surrounded by a plastic bag and packing peanuts. He'd only managed to recover three, but he figured Reed Richards could figure it out with those three. Finally, he put in one of his green arrows, with a typed note taped to it. With the postage easily payed and few questions asked, the package was sent urgently to New York.

Still, Queen was haunted by the words of Kanto. He didn't usually trust madmen, but then again, madmen don't move like Kanto did. He was more inclined to believe the words of the promised invasion than to disbelieve them, and that troubled him.

If Kanto was true, and this Dark Side being was coming to Earth, what could Olliver Queen do?

"Problem is quite the understatement Clark...we have a potential Apocalypse on our hands here. I was just visited by an ancient entity called Uatu from an ageless race of Watchers...he informed me of a powerful being called Darkseid, which is exactly what Tony said in Star City. He also mentioned that this Darkseid is at full power and is ready to attack at anytime" Reed paused for a moment.

"We have to warn as many heroes as we can...we must join forces or we will be swept aside" Reed remembered the news broadcast he watched earlier with Captain America "I know we can't trust Lex Luthor, but we need his help and technology in the upcoming battle. I don't think he will object...afterall, the world is of no use to him destroyed. With Lex's help comes Captain America's help, which will be a key factor in this upcoming confrontation. Don't under estimate the power of national pride...it can be the deciding factor in battle...and with Captain America being conveniently found at this time, we can use that morale to inspire more people to help"

Suddenly Reeds communicator went off

"Reed, darling, Willy just brought up a package that was priority mailed to you...it seems important" Sue said

"Alright Sue, i'll come check it out" Reed said. "I wonder what that could be? It could be a trap...I am going to need your x-ray vision, if you don't mind Kal-el...with this whole invasion we can't be too careful" The two heroes walked through the roof access door back into Reed's laboratory.

"Superman!" Sue said "nice to see you again...if I knew you were going to be dropping by I would have put something else on" she said looking down at her FF uniform.

"This is no time to be worrying about appearences Susan...we have a catastrophe on our hands" Reed said holding the package up for Superman to examine

"See anything suspicious?" Reed said before attempting to open the package.

There was uncontrolable applause as Captain America walked out, from behind a curtain and onto the stage. He shook Luthor's hand and smiled as many publicity shoots were took for all the newspapers.

"Thank you Mr. Luthor. Hello American citizens! I have recently been...brought back to life, if you will. I am sure all of you have heard stories of me in the second World War. I was the unofficial leader of all the American troops back then. I brought the fight right to the enemy's doorstep. I helped save America, and every other great nation many times during that long and hard war. There was really a lot of really great men who I fought beside. Some died, and some I can only assume that they lived.

Back then, I fought for America! For the land of the free and the brave! And for the innocent people of this brave world. If you all wouldn't mind, I would like to share a story with you all. I have not told anybody else this before, or really had a chance to until now. Among all of the innocents and brave people who I worked alongside in the war, the one person who had the most impact on me, was a young man named Bucky.

I guess you could say Bucky was my 'side-kick'. I tool him under my wing, and taught him everything I knew. He shared the same great love for his country and for peace that I did, and still do. We went into countless battles together, emerging victorious and bringing the war one step closer to ending.

The last day that I remember before waking up in this current year, I will never forget, and cannot forget. That day, Bucky and I snuck into a top secret enemy facility. We had learned that the Germans were going to use a top secret missle on the U.S. in order to end the war. When we got to the missle, the launch sequence had already begun. Out of desperation, we both jumped onto the missle as it launched. In mid air, probably a mile or more above the ocean, we clung to that missle with our lives and tried to find a way to stop it. We found a compartment in the missle which contained various wires and machinery that ran the missle. We opened it. We could not shut it down. I told Bucky to let himslef fall into the ocean, and I would trigger the missle to blow up myself. He refused and said that I would be much better for this world alive than he would be. I didn't care, I did not want to have to live with Bucky's death on my conscience, let alone the fact that Bucky was everything that America stood for...bravery, innocence, caring, and selfless. As I tried to move myself closer to the controls..."

A tear escapes Captain America's eyes while he speaks.

"As I moved closer, I slipped and fell off of the missle. halfway to the ocean, I saw something that I will never forget. The missle exploded with Bucky on it. He had activated it himself. Saving America, and probably the entire world. I hit the icy ocean hard. I went in and out of consciousness. Mr. Luthor's men found me frozen in ice and revived me."

Captain America notices that there are not many dry eyes in the audience, or on Lex Luthor.

"I will never forget that last day before I was frozen. For, if I forget that day, or any of the war that I saw, then what kind of justice would that be for the soldiers that gave their lives for this great country, or for ALL of you? We need heros again, heros like Bucky! Not these heros from space who 'claim' to be in good intentions. Let me promise you, now that I have returned, I will remind all of you what a true hero is. I hope that all of you will not forget any of the lives lost so you can have your freedom. And now that you have it, I will help you keep it!

I will step down off of this stage today, leaving you one last message. Who is your hero? Some creature from space? Or someone who has paid the ultimate price on your behalf? That is something that you need to decide.

Thank you, its great to be back!"

There was a huge roar of applause following Captain America's speech. Lex Luthor smiled to himself. It had all worked out perfectly. Luthor rose from his seat, giving Captain America a standing ovation as he returned to the podium.

"Thank you, Captain America!" Luthor said, as the press began shouting questions, "I'm afraid neither of us will be answering questions today, ladies and gentlemen. All I will say is that Captain America has the full support of Lexcorp. He is a true hero, a man we can all believe in. Thank you all for coming."

Lex Luthor stood back from the podium. He took Captain America's hand, and raised it in the air, in what looked like a celebration of victory. Luthor could see Captain America flinching at the camera flashes. But Luthor was used to that now, and stared forward, unblinking. He thought about this image - the image of Lex Luthor and Captain America, two great American heroes from different generations, their arms raised in a display of unity - and how it would be on the front page of all the papers. Yes, he was taking the front page back from Superman.

Luthor put his arm around Captain America's shoulder and led him offstage.

"You did great, Steve," Luthor whispered to him once they were alone, "I had goosebumps all the way through your speech. Having you back is going to change the face of this country, bring about a new golden age!"

Of course, Luthor would play a big part too. He had contacts with most of the major crime syndicates in America. He'd pay off the bosses to set up sacrificial lambs - big fish in the underworld that Captain America could capture and bring to justice. And while he was doing that, Luthor would possibly create a few disasters for the Captain to save people from. And if Captain America looked good, Lex Luthor would look good. He would make damn sure that one could not be mentioned without the other in the press. Further down the line, he'd have Captain America endorsing Lexcorp products, acting as a public spokesman for the company. He would become the first corporately-sponsored superhero.

"I've had a penthouse apartment set up for you here in Metropolis," Luthor continued, "You've had quite an ordeal, and I'm sure that all this is a lot to take in. You need to get some rest."

Yes, get some rest, Captain, Luthor thought to himself, because you and I have great work to do...

<Venom>

We travel across the rooftops, relishing our freedom. Brock had only been there for seconds, but the other half of us had been there for far too long, and whatever we were now loves the freedom.

We never think about where we are going, it’s almost like instinct. Inside our head we can hear Brock screaming, he knows what we’re going to do. He fights and fights, but he’s not as strong as us... Nobody is. We reach our destination - didn’t take long at all. We’re strong, we’re fast. We wonder what else we might be able to do, and automatically the suit recedes, and we are a normal Eddie Brock again - but we’re still the ones in charge. Nice.

We knock on the door, and she opens it. Brock used to appreciate her beauty, but Brock wasn’t here. Whatever we are now can hear him, screaming to leave her alone. Beautiful jet-black hair. She smiles at what she thinks is her husband.

The three competing personalities are all in play here, the new creature dominating them. There’s Brock, who wants to spare his wife, who doesn’t want her to die. There’s the suit, who wants to fulfil it’s mission, whatever that is, we can’t hear it yet... and there’s us - the creature created by the both of them, an evil twisted version of Eddie Brock.

We are having trouble keeping the human form, this is all so new. We walk in, smiling at the woman. She moves towards the kitchen,

“You want a coffee or something Eddie?”

We do not answer, we can’t. It’s like learning to speak all over again. We make a low growling noise, and she pokes her head out of the Kitchen door.

“You okay?”

Another one, and she comes over to us. We raise our hand to her shoulder, and try...

“I’m okay...” Then our hand finds her neck, choking her. She tries to scream, but it’s too hard with our strength. We don’t know much about ourselves yet, but we’re strong!

We change, from the man to the monster, the jet black giant with the white eyes and vicious teeth. We keep strangling her, stronger now and blood begins to drip out of her mouth... Then we can speak, we find the words in Eddies locked away mind. We hear our voice for the first time, course, with a roar like a lion backing it up. They come out slowly.

“Eddie...

Is...

Ours...”

Her eyes begin to roll back in her head, we drop her, don’t want her to die this way.

“Eat... Your... Brains...”

Her eyes widen with fear, and we stop. We lower her down...

Innocent. She should not be the first to die by our hands.

We crash through the wall, the bricks and rubble hitting us barely registers. We dig our claws into the wall, using them to scale it. We stand on the roof, and we know who we’re going after.

We leap to the next roof, tiles coming loose and sliding - then falling, from the roof. And the only thing on our mind, is blood.

"Yes, that would be very nice Mr. Luthor. I appreciate all your kindness that you have shown me since I have been back. It is good to know that there are still genuinely nice people like you in the world."

Dinah armed herself with a virgin margarita and circulated, smiling the whole time. Her hair was done up in curls with white roses set in it, like white opals in a gold setting.

“Oh, if only Tony were here to see you!” One middle aged woman said, reiterating the same words Dinah’s own mother had said not an hour ago.

The woman’s husband took a sip of his scotch. His tall form towering over his tiny plumb wife’s figure.
“Speaking of the wayward Bas..” His speech was cut off as his wife jostled him in the ribs. He cleared his throat.
“Where is the young man?”

Dinah smiled and shook her head.
“I wouldn’t know. You know how he is, so impulsive. I haven’t seen him since the party at Queen’s.” She said, taking a step to the side trying to extract herself from this conversation.

“Oh, I heard about that. It’s perfectly horrible. Hopefully you didn’t receive any scars?”

“No I didn’t.”

The woman’s head turned as she glimpsed a fatter chicken than Dinah/

“Well you give Tony our best dear.” She put her hand on top of Dinah’s.

“I will Mrs. Clayborn.”

Mrs. Clayborn motioned her husband to follow her and he trailed behind her complacently.

Dinah sighed and went to get her drink refilled. This was something she’d committed too, yet she’d committed to it with Tony. If he couldn’t keep this commitment, what would happen when he made a larger one? Till death do us part…

“Virgin Margarita, please.” She asked before turning and leaning against the large mahogany bar itself an antique.

“Martini.” Dinah turns at the movement and voice of the woman as she leaned on the bar, facing the opposite direction as Dinah.

Her long black curly hair was brought up in a clip but fell loose around her shoulders. Her dark purple dress was simple and tasteful, curving where she curved. The part that caught Dinah off guard and made her smile was the tall almost riding boot looking boots she worn with the elegant evening dress.
On top of which was the fact that Dinah hadn’t found this woman in her huge mental catalogue of socialites from any nearby city.

“Hello, I’m Dinah Lance.”

The woman turned, her green eyes piercing yet a bit mischievous.

“I’m Selina Kyle.”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
I followed her around, there was no one flirt worthy here, however I did notice a pattern. About every other word Mallory spoke was “Mr. Wayne” The girl had a crush. Finally I was able to escape from the vacuum she seemed to create around her. I was looking at the small painting in the wall. It was a kitchen scene; a small kitten was lapping up spilt milk on the wooden floors.
“Now that’s spilt milk if I ever saw it.” I turned at the male voice and found myself staring up at a unique person. He must have been early thirties, only about 5-6 years older than I; however he was an odd mix.
His seemed to be the cynical type as if he’d seen too much of the world, his face was slightly weathered, and rugged, his eyes were soft though, and I wouldn’t want to be around him if they ever hardened. He took a sip of his drink, a beer and I smiled, a down to earth man, his hands I also noticed, tanned and worn, a man who wasn’t afraid of labor.
I must be staring too long, he looks at me oddly and I smile slyly before turning back to the picture. He was in a word…handsome.
“A little strange to see something like this painting in a room like this.”
“Well,” he said stepping closer and leaning over from his height of what I guessed was 6’ 1” allowing me to smell the faint scent of his cologne.
Old English.
“This room was in a castle in France, or some such place. Either the guy who got the thankless task of painting it wanted to snub the family by painting something ‘beneath’ them. Or, they wanted it here to remind them of their humanity.”
I looked at him as he spoke, his voice thoughtful.
“What makes you think it would be the latter?”
He let out a bitter little laugh.
“People with money tend to think themselves higher than people who have a 9-5 job and come home to a loving wife and children who are happy with paper dolls and wooden soldiers.” He took another sip of his beer.
“Let’s not even get to talkin’ about the people who are lower than middle class.” He said, his rugged face hardening as he glanced around the room.
I crossed my arms and looked at him.
“For a guy who doesn’t like it you’re sure in an odd place.”
He smiled.
“Only here for the Dames.” He said winking as he took a swig. He said it in such a way as to make it a jest. I smiled and raised my eyebrow.
“Security, plain clothes.” He said tersely.
“You don’t exactly blend in.” I said a sly smile still on my face. He was a police officer…way to pick ‘em Selina.
“I don’t exactly like being here.” He replied tersely before shifting the half empty beer bottle to his left hand and holding his right hand out.
“Slam Bradley”
“Selina Kyle”
I answer as I shake his hand. It’s rough like I imagined it would be.
He smiles, a motion his face doesn’t seem to find familiar, yet it only accentuates his rugged good looks.
“Well Selina, you’re not exactly the normal attendee of a party like this.”
“First time out. How can you tell?”
He nods.
“Fresh meat. You don’t exactly look like that butterfly over there.” He points to Mallory and something catches his eye.
I follow his gaze and I see a pretty young woman in her early twenties. Her blonde hair done up in ringlets and white roses place tastefully among the gold curls. Her red dress setting off her pale cream skin.
He lets out a low whistle before turning back to me and stares at the cat picture.
“Who is she?” I ask
He gives me a sideways look.
“Why do you ask?”
“You’re attracted to good looking woman yet you ignore her.”
“Firstly, I don’t ignore her; I just don’t look to keep myself sane. Secondly, Of course I’m attracted to drop-dead gorgeous woman. Why do you think I’m talking to you?” He says taking another swig.
I laugh; he’s abrupt, so much so that all the woman in this room would have already walked away with a disgusted look. All except me.
He smiles seeing me laugh.
“That’s Dinah Lance. She’s the fiancée of Tony Stark.”
“Robbing the cradle a little isn’t he.” I glance at the beautiful socialite.
“Can you blame him?”
I admit she’s very pretty, but I also notice something else that causes me to second guess my ranking her as a ‘socialite’.
I turn and look back at Slam in time to see him nod to someone. He turns to me and smiles.
“It was nice meeting you Selina. Hopefully our paths will cross again.” He nodded his head a little as if tipping an invisible hat before slipping off.
I watch him go, observing his back side…his suit pulls across what mush be muscular shoulders, and from what I noted from the front he was an outstanding man.
I turn and walk towards the bar, where the golden Dinah Lance is at; her elbows leaned against the bar and her back to it. Her face is turned looking at the other end of the room. Coming closer I can see that large diamond ring on her finger.
“Martini.” I ask the Bartender.
The woman turns and I can feel her taking me in with a single glance. This girl is sharp.
“Hello, I’m Dinah Lance.”
I turn smiling, happy that my first estimation of her was wrong. I’m not often wrong, but I’m glad I am.
“I’m Selina Kyle.”
I would run his gaunlet of high wires and vertical poles....they would splinter beneath me and my balance would sway for like two degrees but it wasnt good enough
Batman - "Do it better"
I aimed for the biggest mantle of all. I want to be the Batman...i watch him perform these feats as if there isnt a fear in the world....he finally gets me up on a wire spanning the top of the cave.....It all comes flooding back to me. Why? What has he to prove?
Batman - "If you dont beat your fears here then how will you cope out there under pressure"
He was right...I threw myself into the air with elegance. My arms outstretched reaching for the sharp rocks of the cave. I slipped and saw the floor come ever closer...then i stopped. Bruce held the belay rope tight..
Batman - "Try again and this time dont think about it. Fear isnt a weakness its a weapon save yours and use it for others...now try again"
I made my way up the wall. This time without thinking i flipped backwards off the wall, unhooked the carabina and grafefully swung from the other part of the cave. I clung on as tight as i could my fingers almost bleeding as teh rock cut in. I leapt off again and continued to perform a number of graceful twists and leaps until i was stood before Bruce. With a lightening speed i snatched two batarangs from his belt and launched them with an unaimed precision and sliced the target in two.
Bruce looked at me....
Batman - "Hmmm not bad.....but never touch the belt again"
I couldnt help but smile....
He walked away from me into a small electronic vault in the far end of the cave...
Batman - "Youll be needing this then.....Robin"
I looked at it and i felt i belonged once again. Alfred came down with a big grin on his face....
Alfred - "Hope you like it Master Grayson...and dont bring it back with big holes in it like Master Bruce here. They arent easy to restitch you know."
I wont.......i wont disappoint any of them
Now i was known as Robin
IC:Dick Grayson
I looked at my self in the reflection of the large metal door as i placed the costume on...
It suited me.i was meant for this role. The Dark Knight was hunched over in his seat before the huge console. he was talking to someone via an ear piece in his mask.
as i approached the conversation stopped
"Who was that?"
The man runs down the street, panicked. He had his plan, get Brock into the suit, get control. There were no volunteers would go near the place in that facility after what had happened to the last guy who put it on - insane, currently locked in a padded room in the facility. But it’s hunting him, and he knows he’s going to die if he doesn’t reach the....
He runs up they alley. He had fled the base as soon as that thing had gotten out. Now he felt he needed to go back, to try and find some way of stopping it. He bent over to lift the sewer cover...
The black creature slowly lowered itself down on a Tendril, hanging upside down, he grabs the scientist, the man screams but soon more of the black suit covers his eyes and his mouth, everything is black...
*
When he can see again, he sees the human looking Eddie Brock in front of him. The reporter looks lost, his eyes are wet like he has been crying, he turns to face the scientist.
“So... What did you do to me?”
The Scientist says nothing, too terrified, sweat pouring from his body and face, he knows that whatever he says might be his last words.
“Since this crap covered me, It’s like I’ve been locked in a dark room, it’s let me out... And you’re going to tell me what it is... Before I let it out again.”
“Its a battle suit... The Government ...wanted it incase all these... Marvels... got out of hand, in case they tried to,... to take over or something.”
Brock grabs the man, and slams him down onto the ground again.
“What else!”
The man gulps, to scared to speak.
“I don’t need the suit to kill you. Tell me more, NOW!”
“It..., it worked, we managed to train the suit to want to kill anyone with super-powers. Electro-shock therapy... Conditioning it... But everyone we tested it on went insane...”
“Insane like how?” Brocks voice is completely calm now.
The Doctor seemed to be relaxing now, as Brocks voice calmed. If he can convince Brock he wants to help him, he might come out of this alive.
“Multiple personalities. First the suit, only has one objective, to kill it’s enemies. It would do anything to kill a “super-powered being”, even put normal people in danger. Then there’s the person behind the suit, they don’t have much say in the matter, but it’s that little bit of humanity which keeps them from going completely psycho on everyone. Then there’s the third, it’s a mixture of the two, and seems to be the dominant one in every case. It’s both of them, but not completely. Think of it like brunch, its sort of breakfast and sort of lunch but it’s neither”
“So that’s what it’s trying to get me to do, who does it want dead?”
“All of them, Superman, The Fantastic Four, everyone.”
“And what happens to me after I kill all these guys?”
“The suit will have it’s own cause after that...”
“ME! What happens to ME?”
The Scientist shakes his head, terrified again, for an instant he could see the Monster that was slowly creeping into Brocks brain.
“We don’t know, we never got that far with the tests!”
“What is it?”
“We don’t know, its sentient. It’s extra-terrestrial. Came to earth with these green meteors...”
Brock looks down at the balding man, and sighs.
“Go... Before I change my mind.”
The man heads for the fire escape, and climbs down it. He fells solid ground beneath his feet again, and walks over to the manhole cover.
“Changed Our Minds”
He sees the hulking black creature in front of him, it’s sick grin and glaring eyes the only things breaking the darkness.
“Don’t kill me” the scientist screams, “I can help you, it’ll poison you Brock!”
“Poison... it already has. We can feel it, like snake venom coursing through us, making us stronger, letting us know things we could never dreamed... We like Venom... We are Venom...”
With that he grabs the scientists head, and squeezes. Venom hears a scream behind him, a young woman with her new born baby, Venom gets ready to attack her, but that little bit of Brock within the creature stops him, and the woman runs. Venom leaps onto the building beside him, digging his fingers into the granite, climbing the building, to go and find something fun to do.
"Yes, that would be very nice Mr. Luthor. I appreciate all your kindness that you have shown me since I have been back. It is good to know that there are still genuinely nice people like you in the world."
"Thank you for you kind words, Steve," Luthor said, "That means a lot, coming from a hero like you."
Lex Luthor put his hand on Captain America's shoulder, a solemn expression on his face.
"But I must warn you - as a friend. Not everybody in the world today is as honest as I try to be. These so-called "superheroes" have gained their status through manipulation and intimidation. They use fear as a weapon. They try to use their...abilities to make normal people feel powerless. But we are not powerless. Where was Superman when we built Metropolis? Where was he when you, and many other brave souls - such as your friend, Bucky - fought for our country's freedom? Do not trust these people, Steve. And do not trust anyone who attempts to pollute your mind with lies and deceit. And trust me, many will try."
"Problem is quite the understatement Clark...we have a potential Apocalypse on our hands here. I was just visited by an ancient entity called Uatu from an ageless race of Watchers...he informed me of a powerful being called Darkseid, which is exactly what Tony said in Star City. He also mentioned that this Darkseid is at full power and is ready to attack at anytime" Reed paused for a moment.
"We have to warn as many heroes as we can...we must join forces or we will be swept aside" Reed remembered the news broadcast he watched earlier with Captain America "I know we can't trust Lex Luthor, but we need his help and technology in the upcoming battle. I don't think he will object...afterall, the world is of no use to him destroyed. With Lex's help comes Captain America's help, which will be a key factor in this upcoming confrontation. Don't under estimate the power of national pride...it can be the deciding factor in battle...and with Captain America being conveniently found at this time, we can use that morale to inspire more people to help"
Luthor?
We have to trust him?He's a criminal!He's tried to turn everyone against us...He almost made me stop fufilling my destiny...And we have to trust him?
I...No.
No...We have to.I have to.For the sake of the planet.If this invasion suceeds,Luthor's acts of criminatlity won't matter anymore,because the human race will be doomed.As much as I hate the idea with every fiber of my being...I'm willing to set all of that aside.
For freedom of the world.I have to keep telling myself that.Otherwise,I fear won't make it through this...
Suddenly Reeds communicator went off
"Reed, darling, Willy just brought up a package that was priority mailed to you...it seems important" Sue said
"Alright Sue, i'll come check it out" Reed said. "I wonder what that could be? It could be a trap...I am going to need your x-ray vision, if you don't mind Kal-el...with this whole invasion we can't be too careful" The two heroes walked through the roof access door back into Reed's laboratory.
"Superman!" Sue said "nice to see you again...if I knew you were going to be dropping by I would have put something else on" she said looking down at her FF uniform.
"This is no time to be worrying about appearences Susan...we have a catastrophe on our hands" Reed said holding the package up for Superman to examine
"See anything suspicious?" Reed said before attempting to open the package.
I look over at Susan Storm,and let out a half-smile.
"Don't feel you have to keep up appearances on my account,Ms.Storm.Besides,you look fine."
I look back at Richards,as he holds up the package.I look at it,focused...until...
The box becomes invisible.Well,the outside of it does.Inside...I can see it's contents.It seems to be...
...
Wait,is that...an arrow?
I look back up at Dr.Richards.
"It's...an arrow.Just a crude arrow.No explosives...no traps...nothing."
My hearing can't pick up any explosives and my vision detected nothing aside from the arrow.What a strange package...
I look at Dr.Richards,once again.
"Why would someone send you an arrow?"
Dinah armed herself with a virgin margarita and circulated, smiling the whole time. Her hair was done up in curls with white roses set in it, like white opals in a gold setting.
“Oh, if only Tony were here to see you!” One middle aged woman said, reiterating the same words Dinah’s own mother had said not an hour ago.
The woman’s husband took a sip of his scotch. His tall form towering over his tiny plumb wife’s figure.
“Speaking of the wayward Bas..” His speech was cut off as his wife jostled him in the ribs. He cleared his throat.
“Where is the young man?”
Dinah smiled and shook her head.
“I wouldn’t know. You know how he is, so impulsive. I haven’t seen him since the party at Queen’s.” She said, taking a step to the side trying to extract herself from this conversation.
“Oh, I heard about that. It’s perfectly horrible. Hopefully you didn’t receive any scars?”
“No I didn’t.”
The woman’s head turned as she glimpsed a fatter chicken than Dinah/
“Well you give Tony our best dear.” She put her hand on top of Dinah’s.
“I will Mrs. Clayborn.”
Mrs. Clayborn motioned her husband to follow her and he trailed behind her complacently.
Dinah sighed and went to get her drink refilled. This was something she’d committed too, yet she’d committed to it with Tony. If he couldn’t keep this commitment, what would happen when he made a larger one? Till death do us part…
“Virgin Margarita, please.” She asked before turning and leaning against the large mahogany bar itself an antique.
“Martini.” Dinah turns at the movement and voice of the woman as she leaned on the bar, facing the opposite direction as Dinah.
Her long black curly hair was brought up in a clip but fell loose around her shoulders. Her dark purple dress was simple and tasteful, curving where she curved. The part that caught Dinah off guard and made her smile was the tall almost riding boot looking boots she worn with the elegant evening dress.
On top of which was the fact that Dinah hadn’t found this woman in her huge mental catalogue of socialites from any nearby city.
“Hello, I’m Dinah Lance.”
The woman turned, her green eyes piercing yet a bit mischievous.
“I’m Selina Kyle.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`

I followed her around, there was no one flirt worthy here, however I did notice a pattern. About every other word Mallory spoke was “Mr. Wayne” The girl had a crush. Finally I was able to escape from the vacuum she seemed to create around her. I was looking at the small painting in the wall. It was a kitchen scene; a small kitten was lapping up spilt milk on the wooden floors.

“Now that’s spilt milk if I ever saw it.” I turned at the male voice and found myself staring up at a unique person. He must have been early thirties, only about 5-6 years older than I; however he was an odd mix.
His seemed to be the cynical type as if he’d seen too much of the world, his face was slightly weathered, and rugged, his eyes were soft though, and I wouldn’t want to be around him if they ever hardened. He took a sip of his drink, a beer and I smiled, a down to earth man, his hands I also noticed, tanned and worn, a man who wasn’t afraid of labor.
I must be staring too long, he looks at me oddly and I smile slyly before turning back to the picture. He was in a word…handsome.

“A little strange to see something like this painting in a room like this.”

“Well,” he said stepping closer and leaning over from his height of what I guessed was 6’ 1” allowing me to smell the faint scent of his cologne.
Old English.

“This room was in a castle in France, or some such place. Either the guy who got the thankless task of painting it wanted to snub the family by painting something ‘beneath’ them. Or, they wanted it here to remind them of their humanity.”

I looked at him as he spoke, his voice thoughtful.

“What makes you think it would be the latter?”

He let out a bitter little laugh.
“People with money tend to think themselves higher than people who have a 9-5 job and come home to a loving wife and children who are happy with paper dolls and wooden soldiers.” He took another sip of his beer.
“Let’s not even get to talkin’ about the people who are lower than middle class.” He said, his rugged face hardening as he glanced around the room.

I crossed my arms and looked at him.
“For a guy who doesn’t like it you’re sure in an odd place.”

He smiled.
“Only here for the Dames.” He said winking as he took a swig. He said it in such a way as to make it a jest. I smiled and raised my eyebrow.

“Security, plain clothes.” He said tersely.

“You don’t exactly blend in.” I said a sly smile still on my face. He was a police officer…way to pick ‘em Selina.

“I don’t exactly like being here.” He replied tersely before shifting the half empty beer bottle to his left hand and holding his right hand out.
“Slam Bradley”

“Selina Kyle”
I answer as I shake his hand. It’s rough like I imagined it would be.

He smiles, a motion his face doesn’t seem to find familiar, yet it only accentuates his rugged good looks.

“Well Selina, you’re not exactly the normal attendee of a party like this.”

“First time out. How can you tell?”

He nods.
“Fresh meat. You don’t exactly look like that butterfly over there.” He points to Mallory and something catches his eye.

I follow his gaze and I see a pretty young woman in her early twenties. Her blonde hair done up in ringlets and white roses place tastefully among the gold curls. Her red dress setting off her pale cream skin.
He lets out a low whistle before turning back to me and stares at the cat picture.

“Who is she?” I ask
He gives me a sideways look.
“Why do you ask?”

“You’re attracted to good looking woman yet you ignore her.”

“Firstly, I don’t ignore her; I just don’t look to keep myself sane. Secondly, Of course I’m attracted to drop-dead gorgeous woman. Why do you think I’m talking to you?” He says taking another swig.

I laugh; he’s abrupt, so much so that all the woman in this room would have already walked away with a disgusted look. All except me.

He smiles seeing me laugh.
“That’s Dinah Lance. She’s the fiancée of Tony Stark.”

“Robbing the cradle a little isn’t he.” I glance at the beautiful socialite.

“Can you blame him?”

I admit she’s very pretty, but I also notice something else that causes me to second guess my ranking her as a ‘socialite’.

I turn and look back at Slam in time to see him nod to someone. He turns to me and smiles.

“It was nice meeting you Selina. Hopefully our paths will cross again.” He nodded his head a little as if tipping an invisible hat before slipping off.

I watch him go, observing his back side…his suit pulls across what mush be muscular shoulders, and from what I noted from the front he was an outstanding man.

I turn and walk towards the bar, where the golden Dinah Lance is at; her elbows leaned against the bar and her back to it. Her face is turned looking at the other end of the room. Coming closer I can see that large diamond ring on her finger.

“Martini.” I ask the Bartender.

The woman turns and I can feel her taking me in with a single glance. This girl is sharp.

“Hello, I’m Dinah Lance.”

I turn smiling, happy that my first estimation of her was wrong. I’m not often wrong, but I’m glad I am.

“I’m Selina Kyle.”

OOC: Because Twy asked me too, I'm going to be using Tony Stark/Iron Man in this post. Sentry, if you think this post is off, I can correct it.

Time. That was his problem, there was no time. Not since he became Iron Man. Not since he knew. He didn't know why, but he knew that time was drawing near. The Dark Side was coming to Earth, and he heralded the end of all things. When faced with an apocalypse, you have to decide what's important to you. Tony Stark had decided that he needed to be with Dinah. It was simple to figure out where her party was. God, he'd been such a fool. Blowing her off after Queen's party, pursuing this whole Dark Side thing. He was just a man, a wealthy, smart man. He knew now, that meant nothing. Not to what was coming. He'd had a few drinks to keep appearances up and help him deal with what was going on and what he had to do. The doors were closed, but inside he could hear the party going on. He burst in. He had to find Dinah, find her before-

A large boom rattled the windows of the building.

IC: Darkseid

It had been a long time in coming, it felt. Time to observe the small, blue world that would mark the beginning of a new War Among the Gods. The more he observed Earth, the more he knew it was the proper starting point. The planet was full of the messy, chaotic life; unordered and meandering in its existence. For no great purpose did the humans toil. For no being did they live or die. Everything was operating with free will and independence of the rest of the small creatures on the planet. He would unify it, bend it to his will. It would become a utopia under his rule, a testament to his will. He would eradicate the free will that suffused and tainted that world. He would provide purpose and meaning to their meaningless lives. Earth would know order. His order.

He stood, holo-screens showing the faces of his generals. Apokolips' finest would lead the invasion. Steppenwolf, Granny Goodness and the Furies, the Deep Six, Kalibak, Godfrey, and countless legions of the Parademons. The worldquakers, flame tanks, and probability engines would be the machines that would drive his victory. Organic and machine, all bent to his whim. To his will. A harmony of force that nothing on Earth could withstand.

He slowly gazed at each of his generals in turn. Each showed readiness, eagerness in their eyes. He then turned his fearsome eyes across the bridge, the Parademons and lowlies working in hushed silence. Weeks had been spent in preparation and observation. The targets had been chosen. After what felt like an interminable wait, it was finall time.

"My lord, the legions await your word," spoke his uncle, Steppenwolf.
Darkseid smiled. Earth, then the galaxy, then the Universe, would soon be his. "Begin."

*******************************************************

On Earth, the day and night was interrupted. With windowshattering booms, swirling vortexes of power appeared in the sky above every major city on Earth. The denizens of Tokyo, Metropolis, New York, Los Angeles, Star City, Gotham, and dozens of other cities turned their eyes to the sky. From the cortexes emerged long, slender ships, each of them exactly 3.5 miles long.

Above New York emerged a different ship. Black as the night, it emerged. Inscribed upon the hull in red were letters that none could read. If they could, they would have been driven mad by the names of the Gods.

From the ship emerged a small platform. A man, looking as normal as any other man, save that his suit was white and a long red cape flowed behind him, stepped onto it. All over the world, in every language, people could hear and understand him.
"People of the Earth, welcome to a new age! I am the herald of your new Lord and Master! Your governments have one hour to surrender sovereignty to Him. Who is He? Who is the Beginning and the End? Who is the Master of the Omega Force? Who is the Lord of Apokolips? WHO IS YOUR NEW GOD?"
Behind him, as if from thin air, appeared a massive being. He stood over nine feet tall, his eyes made of deepest crimson. He stood, hands clasped behind his back, and uttered two words. All over the world, people heard and understood.
"Darkseid is."

<Mister Fantastic>

"I don't know Superman" Reed said, looking at the arrow. "Wait...theres a note at the bottom of the package" Reed grabbed the note and read it aloud

"Recovered these after a fight with a man claiming to be Kanto, a general of a being called Darkseid. Defeated him, but he used tech like I've never seen, not even from you. The other bolts were destroyed. My machines weren't able to analyze these, maybe you can. Drop by Star City when you've got it figured out.

Arrow"

"Darkseid...there is that name again. This is not good" Reed said. "I'm going to examine this a little closer...maybe it will reveal some clues and light our way" Reed brought the peculiar items over to his lab, and placed it under the microscope. Upon further insepction he noticed the letters "K A N T O" etched onto the side.

"Interesting...most interesting" Reed said, mostly to himself. "I must know what this is composed of" Reed said as he began to run some chemical tests. "Judging by the feel and structure of the metal, I'm going to hypothesize that it is either Adamantium or Vibranium...both of which are extremly rare. If this liquid turns yellow it is Adamantium, if it turns blue, it is Vibranium" after minutes of being submerged the liquid finally turned green.

"It can't be......" Reed said "Who could do such a thing"

Reed turned to Superman

"We have a big problem. We have to get in touch with Lex Luthor and anyone else who can help immediatley. This metal is an alloy of Adamantium and Vibranium...it was believed to be impossible to merge the two together. This Darkseid obviously has greater firepower then we could ever imagine. If his army is equipped with this, I fear for this world" Reed said

As Richards starts to open the package,I notice he's tense.And taking into account that we're about to be invaded by a potentially dangerous being,I can't really blame him.Even I'm beginning to become concerned.

I nod,understandingly.I need to act...

"I'll try and make contact with Luthor and Captain America,back in Metropolis.It'll be faster if I-"

At that very moment,without warning,something is caught by my hearing.I look back,curiously.Something...coming from the sky...

"Wait a minute..."

I use my x-ray vision to look through the wall,nearest me,to see something...completely undescribable.

The sky...Something...a vortex,of some sort,begins to form.It then glows,before a loud noise pierces my concentration.

"AGGHHH!!"

I hold my ears as test tubes simultaneously explode,around me.I look over at Richards,and Sue,who are in the midst of the glass.Using my speed,I stand infront of them both,letting it ricochet off of my skin.

bulletproof.gif

Before I can turn around,to see if they're alright,I can hear something ELSE,coming from outside.I look through the celing,to see...

My eyes widen.

"Great Krypton..."

The single largest flying craft I've ever layed eyes on,floats outside of us.Not only that...but it's the most inhuman looking one,aswell.Even moreso than the ship that brought me to earth...

I watch as someone...rather human looking,actually...steps out of it.He's small,compared to the ship...but his voice is as loud as if he were standing right infront of me...

I...This....This is it.

The realisation hits me,as I listen to the small man's words.

This is the invasion.This is what we were warned about.I thought we had more time than this...but...I must've been gravely mistaken.

Then...Behind the man...a massive,unhuman looking being steps forth.Even from here,I can see the glow of his eyes.Like blood,almost...

"Darkseid Is."

My eyes widen.He's mad.He can't be serious.This has to be a dream...an illusion,of some sort.None of this can be real...

I look down at my unharmed skin,after being hit with enough glass to send any other man into a world of pain.

...I shouldn't be one to talk about illusions,or the unreal.

I look back up at the ship.

"No."

I say it,as if I'm speaking directly to the beings.They will not take earth.No matter how much they try,no matter how serious they really are...They will not succeed.

I won't allow it.

Before anything else can be said,I fly out of the baxter building,at incredible speeds.I even break through the window of the building,with ease,as I fly towards the alienanic ship.

Forget Luthor.We don't have time,anymore.And I'm not about to negotiate with him while the world's at stake.Action must be taken,now,before it's too late.

This will not happen.This isn't going to occur.Not now...Not ever.We will not allow it.This invasion will not take place.

Up_Up_and_Away.jpg

Not if I have something to say about it.

.....oh, well this certainly put a damper in my plans for the afternoon.

I've got to do something.

What can I do?

I....

"HELP!"

I look down, and see a car turned over on the street. There's a woman trapped inside. It looks like widnows in her car shattered when the sonic boom him, and she crashed.

I jump down, rip the car door off, and gently help the woman out.

"Wh...what's happening?"

"Truth be told, lady..."

I look up at the ship.

"...I think War of the Worlds is going to become pretty damn unpopular after all this is said and done."

What the hell am I gonna do?

<Norman Osborn>

I stand from the offices of OsCorp Industries,from my private office.The office of the great and powerful Norman Osborn,as I like to think of it.

Infront of me stands a glorious city.New York City.A city filled with hope,dreams,and vision.

I have no time for such things.

Concentrating too much on a vision or a dream did not get me where I am today.It was the will.The will to seize power and grab it from other,undeserving neanderthals and idiots that waste it trying to make the world a better place.

I look up,to notice something in the sky.At first,it seems as if a storm is coming.Then,the clouds seem to swirl,in a glowing vortex.I raise an eyebrow as the city is hit with a sonic boom.Various sonic booms,actually.

The room around me shakes,slightly.Had the windows not been indestructable,and quake proof,they would've surely been shattered.But that is yet another example of the genius I've put into this factory.

As the vortexes continue,I notice something decend from the heavens.It is...inhuman.The technology is absolutely extraordinary.I make a mental note to steal it's design.It'll make millions.No...BILLIONS.

As I think this,A voice booms out,from nowhere.At first,I think that I'm going crazy.Then,I realise...It's from that...ship.

"Darkseid Is."

I once again raise an eyebrow.

God?This being actually has the audacity to think that he can proclaim himself 'God' over mankind?

Unbelieveable.Even the inhuman beings cannot be taught the ways of proper civilisation.

If anyone is to be proclaimed a 'God',here,It should be-

My phone rings,as expected.Obviously,it has to do with this so called 'invasion',of sorts.I pick it up,still watching the ship,from my office.

"This is Osborn.Yes,I'm aware.It seems rather ghastly,doesn't it?Yes,I know.No,I don't know.Yes,I shall take your advice,Mr.Mayor.Be rest assured,I am to stay clear of this.Yes,I know.You too.And drive carefully."

I put the phone back down,before taking out my own cell phone.I dial the correct number,and speak.

"Niles.Oh,That's right.I fired him.Walter,is it?Yes.Yes,I know.Yes,That's why I'm calling.I agree that it is far too dangerous for me to stay here.Yes,Meet me at the south entrance.I am leaving.Good day to you."

I put down the phone,before looking back up at the ship that floats above the glorious city known as New York.

Gods?

Norman Osborn fears no gods.

IC: Green Arrow

The ship appeared above Star City, an enormous, booming thunder trumpeting its arrival. It was enormous, and tapered to a point at each end. The ship's arrival alone had leveled buildings. He had rushed back to the hotel he was staying at while his home was being reconstructed.

Kanto. That bastard. He was telling the truth. But if he was telling the truth, what in the name of God can I do? This... all this stuff is beyond me.

That was when he heard it. Like a voice in his head, but not. It was everywhere, and everything, and yet nothing.

And then after it, a voice like the passing of time. A voice that rumbled like thunder. He didn't know what was going on, but he knew that whatever was speaking had to be the one responsible for this whole mess.

"Darkseid Is."

The words rung in Olliver Queen. He hadn't been fast enough. He should have warned more people, told the government, done something. He looked down at the costume he held in his hands.

He'd become Green Arrow to help people in ways that Olliver Queen couldn't. To reshape and rebuild Star City. He'd put on the costume to be a hero.

Realization dawned on him. This is it. Do or die. This... this Darkseid, he's not going to stop. He's going to destroy everything on Earth, unless we resist. Unless we put up a fight. No more time to be scared. No more time for doubt or questioning. Star City doesn't need Olliver Queen right now, a man who, if he had any wits about him, would cringe in a corner and wait for it all to be over. The city needs Green Arrow.

What can I do?

Anything I can.

He slipped into the costume, grabbing every trick and technoloigical arrow he could find and throwing them into his quiver. He put on the domino mask, grabbed an arrow, and pulled the bowstring taught. He then burst out of his room, running up the stairs to the roof top of the building. He looked up, awed again by the sheer enormity of the invading ship.

That's when it started. Like a black wave, things poured out of the ship. They almost looked like hornets, from a distance. But as they got closer, he saw what they were. Enormously built, flying monstrosities wreathed in armor of green and gold. Like some demented onslaught, they attacked Star City. Sirens pierced the air, as did cries for help and the howls of... of whatever those things down there were.

Below him, a mother andchild fled into an alleyway, but five of the monsters followed them.

No time for anything fancy. Take them down, move on. You've got to find a way onto that ship, Ollie. Maybe there you can do some damage.

He ran down the fire escape as quickly as he could. From the second story, he leapt onto one of the monstrosities, trusting in his weight and momentum to knock the thing senseless. He was rewarded when the thing's face was crushed into the pavement. He stood up, the explosive arrow drawn. The things turned, the top parts of their heads hidden by maskes and golden goggles. What parts he could see were the mouth, which was full of teeth and frothing.

"You guys picked a really bad time to piss me off."

On Earth, the day and night was interrupted. With windowshattering booms, swirling vortexes of power appeared in the sky above every major city on Earth. The denizens of Tokyo, Metropolis, New York, Los Angeles, Star City, Gotham, and dozens of other cities turned theireyes to the sky.

"Darkeid is."

Lex Luthor and Captain America were in the middle of their conversation, on the top floor of Lexcorp Tower, when they were interrupted by an earth-shattering boom. Luthor collapsed to the ground, his arms around his head. Oh God, what had happened? Had the building been bombed? Was this a terrorist attack?

But then he looked up, his head cautiously examining his surroundings. He was still alive. The building was still standing, though the windows were shattered.

"What the hell was that?" Luthor gasped, more to himself than to Captain America.

And before he even knew what he was doing, he was on his feet, running back up the stairs, back up to the roof. The members of the press! What if they were all dead? Luthor would get the blame! But when he scrambled onto the roof, Captain America close behind, he saw that they were all still alive. But their eyes were all wide with terror, looking upward to the sky. Slowly, Luthor raised his head skyward, following their gaze.

"Dear God..."

It was a...a vortex. Like a tear in the fabric of space. And through it emerged...no, no, it couldn't be. A spaceship! It had to be over 3 miles long! But how could this be happening? How could...

Then everything fell into place.

"Do you see?" Luthor screamed, grabbing Captain America by the shoulders, "That alien, that...Superman! He has done this! He was a...a herald, a spy. And now the invasion begins. I was right. I was right!"

Luthor's voice was manic, his hands trembling. He stopped himself, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath. No, he could NOT let fear get to him. Creatures like Superman may have power, but Luthor had something they would never have. Humanity. And all the resourcefulness and determination that came with it. He would not fail...

Luthor's thoughts were cut off dead by a booming voice, echoing inside his mind.

"Darkeid is."

No. No! This couldn't be happening. He would not let this world, his world surrender to an alien force. He was Lex Luthor, damnit! He was not going down without a fight.

And as Luthor thought this, even now, amidst this unprecedented disaster, an idea was forming. One of Luthor's greatest strengths was being able to capitalise on any situation. And when Luthor finally tore his eyes away from the sky, and looked again at the press, he saw that they were all looking at him, a pleading desperation in their eyes.

They were waiting for Lex Luthor to save them.

Motioning for a cameraman to set his camera back at the podium, Luthor made his way back onto the stage, motioning for Captain America to follow him. Making sure the camera was on with a sideways glance, Luthor began to speak.

"People of the world, our darkest hour has arrived. Tragically, my greatest fears have been realised. We accepted one alien - the so-called "Superman" - into our midst, and now more have followed him. They mean to conquer us, destroy everything we stand for. Are we going to let them do that?"

Luthor hesitated. He knew he was taking a risk, possibly making himself known to these alien beings. He was afraid, he could not deny that. But he'd be damned if he was going to let them know that!

"NO! I don't know about the leaders of our Governments, but I say that I've worked too damned hard - all my life! - to hand everything over to some extra-terrestrial being. And you should all feel the same. Think of your ancestors, people who died to give you the freedom you have today. If the people of Earth sit back and accept defeat, they are throwing all that away! But I don't think we will surrender. We are the human race! We may not have great, terrifying powers, but we have something that makes us superior to anything else in existence. Our humanity!"

Luthor looked at his captive audience. They were enthralled, hanging on his every word. He imagined this broadcast being shown on every news station, all over the world. And that thought gave him strength.

"I say we fight these invaders - show them the great folly of underestimating the human race. It is time to draw the battle lines. I will provide all technology being developed by Lexcorp to aid our cause. And Captain America, the symbol of freedom and justice, will lead an army once again. No, victory is not certain. But would you rather give up who you are, crawl to instant defeat on your bellies, or risk death fighting for what you believe in? Unite to save our world, people of Earth. What seems like our darkest day may become our finest hour!"

And then it began. A rapturious applause from the members of the press. He had done what they had wanted him to do. Take charge, make a stand against this alien force, this Darkseid. A great conflict lay ahead. But if the human race was victorious, it would not just be mankind's finest hour.

It would be Lex Luthor's...

OOC: Apologies for the small bunny, Master Bruce!

He was impressed, though of course he would never admit to it. The conquest proceeded smoothly. Already, several small states in the African and Asian landmasses had pledged their loyalty to him, if he would destroy the country known as America.

He had studied the land intensely these last few weeks. It was, after all, the most powerful nation on Earth, and at the same time the one most likely to resist His will. It was a land that valued freedom and liberty, with a storied history of champions and warriors. When it was bent to His will, it would provide good weapons and soldiers to use them.

"My lord, Granny Goodness reports that the city of Los Angeles has fallen by your command," Desaad reported, using a hologram to convey the information.
"I did not issue the order for the Parademons to begin their assault. The news pleases me, however. Granny will recieve only two weeks' torture for disobeying me."
"By your command, great Darkseid." Desaad could not keep a hint of pleasure from his voice. Darkseid knew that Granny and Desaad hated each other, but that hatred fueled competition for favor in the eyes of their lord and master."
"Um, Darkseid. We might have a problem," said Godfrey, pointing down. Darkseid looked down, and saw a figure clad in red and blue flying towards his ship.
He smiled. The most powerful of this Earth's champions. The Superman from Krypton. He would be an asset, if he would join Darkseid's armies. If not, he would use Superman to break the will of this world. Superman hovered in front of him, arms crossed across his chest.
"No, Godfrey. This is no problem," said Darkseid, appraising Superman. He was the first of this world's denizens to show resistance. His courage could not be denied, however shortlived it would last. Hands held to his back, Darkseid addressed the "Man of Steel".
"I offer you a choice, Kryptonian. Serve me, be my knight at my side, and I will spare Earth my wrath. It will live in service to me. If you choose to oppose me, I will kill you and burn this world, reshaping it at my whim."

I look at the being who calls himself 'Darkseid'.He's offering me a choice.Neither of which I plan on considering anytime soon.

If he think's he'll be able to intimidate me and the earth that easily,He's heavily underestimated us all.

I look him straight in the red glowing eyes,and show no fear.

"How about the third option,where I tell you to take your buisness elsewhere,and you comply,before I turn your ship into a playtoy."
