The only one left was the Kryptonian. Earth's Superman, guardian and protector.
He would die by Darkseid's hand.
"YOU ARE NOTHING! YOU REPRESENT NOTHING! AND NOW YOU DIE FOR DARKSEID!"
He ran forward, and smashed Superman in the chest with one fist. the force was so great that an immense building behind them was shattered by the concussive force of the blow. The Kryptonian was knocked away by the impact.
It was then Darkseid was startled. He was actually breathing heavy. These... gnats had exerted from him actual effort and expenditure of energy.
His words smash their way into my ears, as his fist comes at me. The massive hand rockets forward with a speed that probably dwarfs my own, and connects to the symbol of my costume. The pain is the single worst pain I've ever felt in my life.
AGGGGGGGHHHHH!!!"
The last thing I feel is the immense pain....and air, before everything goes black.

My eyes open, half way, as I try to take in whatever happened. My bones... I can actually feel them wanting to crumble. My skin stings. I can feel parts of my costume torn, in areas. Most of all, though, I feel the realisation that there's actually a chance that Darkseid could win.
I groan, as I try to move. My body won't let me. No...
I won't let me. It's the pain of it all... I can't will myself to move...
I think of Ma and Pa. How they taught me to never give up, and how they gave me the will to become what I am today. I think of Jor-El, and Lara... my
true parents...And how they gave me a purpose. To defend. To
protect. To inspire. I think of Lois... and how she, and most of the people I've come across see Superman...
me as a hero. As someone who they can count on.
And then, I realise something. Darkseid... He was wrong. I DO represent something. Maybe not to him. Maybe not to many people, like Lex Luthor. But I represent something to the people who want me to protect them. I represent something to the people who NEED me to protect them.
I represent
hope.
Suddenly, my body finds new life, as I push myself up. I stumble amongst the rubble, trying to find my balance as I stand, looking at the damage infront of me.
I've been knocked through countless buildings, cars, and other objects throughout Broadway, and even onward. And that was just from a
single punch. If I were probably any other man, I would be paste on the end of Darkseid's fist. But I'm not.
I try to fly, but only hover a few feet off of the ground, before hovering back down. I need to rest, for a minute. Usually, I'd be fine, by now. But with Darkseid's ship covering up the sun, and Jor-El's lesson about my abilities being solar powered, It may take alot longer for me to recover than usual.
Iron Man
was right... we need a strategy. If I keep attacking him head on, This isn't the last time something like this is going to happen to me today. A group effort, with thought put behind it, might be the answer to this.
I stumble into the streets, which are virtually deserted, now. Rubble and glass are now inplace of the traffic that I witnessed just hours ago. A grave reminder about how this invasion has affected us
all.
I stand, for a moment, taking in the last of the pain within my body. Pain isn't something I'm used to... Especially on this level.
And then... I rocket into the sky, using all of my strength, all of my ability to push myself into doing it. I fly back into Broadway in the space of
seconds, flying past partially destroyed buildings and anarky, as I spot various, strangley clad people in the streets, once more.
Iron Man and Thor, however, are the only people that I recognise, aside from Darkseid, whose battling someone else. Someone bigger, clad in red, almost the size of the Hulk. One of the others is clad in black, with a white spider on his ch...
...
Spider-Man. He's...changed clothes, I see. I quickly ignore it as my attention comes to a man in green spandex, standing among them. I've seen him before, during the beginning of the battle...
I fly into the area, and land among them aswell.
"I assume you're all ready to try something new?"
