"NO!!!" I shout as Druid leaps onto Mordru. "Get back!" But it's too late. Druid and Mordru are tangled together in a battle of wills and power, one which Druid will not win.
I have to do something. Force Mordru into the portal. But doing so will certainly seal Druid away with Mordru. I can't consign him to that fate. But...Dammit! If I don't act soon, Mordru's going to escape. This is our only chance.
"Forgive me..." I whisper at Druid. I brace myself and spin my arms. Twin wrilwinds whip up. Faster and faster I spin, the winds ramping up with the effort, blowing against Druid and Mordru. Combined with the pull of the vortex, I can see them inching ever closer to the opening, the ground tearing beneath their feet.
Sweat pours down my brow, my arms feel like they are going to fall off, but I push. "AAAGGHGHHH!!!" I groan against the pain. But I force my arms faster still.
"Why. Won't. You. Fall?!?!"
The Dark Lord gritted his teeth as he fought against the pull of the vortex, the mage, Druid, and the new attack of the Flash. He was a being of pure mystical energy as old as time itself, and a Lord of Chaos. But, he was slowly losing this battle.
Twenty feet from the vortex. Zatanna's spell grew in strength and the pull of the portal was growing ever stronger. Mordru began to lose his footing and stumbled backwards.
They were fifteen feet away from the swirling portal, the winds from the Flash howling in their ears.
The Dark Lord growled in defiance and began to push back. Breaking one of his hands free, Mordru punched Druid in the gut and picked the wizard up by the throat.
Digging in the dirt to prevent getting sucked into the portal, Mordru spoke to Druid,
"You think to beat me!? Little mage, you could not possibly hope to stop me! I am a god! You're feeble skills are no match for my dark power!"
Druid could not reply as the Dark Lord was crushing his wind pipe in his vice-like grip.
"Now little mage", shouted the Dark Lord to Druid as he yanked him closer to his face,
"you die."
With that, Mordru tosses Druid over his shoulder and towards the vortex.
Mordru turned to face the Flash as the speedster continued and increased the power of his attack in a vain attempt to push the Dark Lord into the portal.
"Now Garrick, it's your turn to suffer", stated the Dark Lord flatly with a cold tone.
The Dark Lord raised his hand in line with the Flash ready to fire a killing blast.
But, at the last second, a group of vines and plant life wrap around his arm, causing the mystic blast to fire wide.
"What!?"
The one-word question is all Mordru can mutter before many other vines wrap around his body and shove themselves down his throat.
Behind him, on the edge of the vortex, is Druid. The mage is weak and beaten, but the fire still burns in his eyes. One arm was dug in the ground, keeping the wizard from getting sucked into the portal, while the other had been transformed into the vines that now attacked the Dark Lord.
"I will be damned if I allow a creature such as you to ruin my world, Mordru", said Druid as his hand holding him in place began to slip.
"If all it costs me is my life to rid this plane from the cancer that is you, then I will gladly pay it."
As Druid's grip began to slip farther, he turned to look at Zatanna. Druid cast a spell so that the young woman would be able to hear his words clearly, and, with compassion in his eyes, Anthony spoke.
"I am sorry, Zatanna. Sorry that I will not be able to continue your training. Sorry that I will not be there to see you grow into the mage I know you will one day become. Sorry that I will be unable to tell you more of your father."
Druid's grip was nearly gone, and the Dark Lord was being pulled in towards him with the help of the Flash's whirlwinds.
"Know this though, little one. Your father loved you with all his heart and soul, and still does. He could not be more proud of what you have become...and neither can I."
"Goodbye, Zatanna."
Druid's grip was lost completely, and both he and Mordru behind him were sucked into the portal. As the Dark Lord disappeared into the swirling vortex, the portal collapsed upon itself and disappeared into thin air.
