If you have HPV it spreads to the throat (without giving oral sex). You can also pass along the cancer with not just oral sex afterwards but open mouth kissing (says the article) which freaks me out becuase 80% of this town has HPV. Gonna have to start looking for dates in different cities.

The thing with HPV is there are a lot of strains but only a few actually can be cancerous. Much like asbestos. Really. There are some completely harmless variants that through unfortunate relatives are thrown together with their evil brethern.

So just because a lot of people may have HPV does not mean they all are at risk of getting cancer from it, unless it's a cancerous strain. But that's probably more than the article would want to clarify. It might lessen the scary impact of throat cancer from oral sex.
