Oscar Nominees Who Got Robbed

I thought Bale could have gotten a nomination for Best Actor, probably over Depp for Finding Neverland. Not many actors would have been willing to pull off what he did.

cmill216 avoids intelligent movie conversation but openly posts "I JUST VOMITED OMG YOUR SO RACIST!", interesting, scratch one off the intelligent poster list.

L.A. Confidential is disgustingly overrated, sure it's a mildly entertaining flick. If it weren't for it's cast, I doubt people would have remembered it.

We aren't going to get along:(

Not really, the strongest argument is that it was closed because Phillip Seymour Hoffman did an amazing job in Capote, he became the character...
No, Terrence Howard should’ve won for Hustle & Flow, hands down no contest. He gave the best performance, he grew as a character, he showed the most range, it was amazing.

Martin Scorcese, Leonardo Dicaprio, and The Aviator were robbed blind.

Yeah...
No...
Joaquin Phoenix should have won.

L.A. Confidential, some say, was oscar worthy, I think not! Titanic pummeled it to the ground, and rightfully so :)...:p

Oh :(

But Bale deserved these 2 nominations
American Psycho perhaps, but his performance in the machinist wasn't anything out of the ordinary, besides his being very skinny. But that doesn't warrant an oscar.

I like Joaguin Phoenix but but no. Have you seen Hustle & Flow? I've seen every movie I've seen all the preformances and Philip Seymour Hoffman and Terrence Howard did better jobs then Joaquin. Of course it was a tough year, all the nominees did really good jobs.

I loved David Strathairn, as well. Indeed, that was a really tough year.

WRONG!:daredevil

Anyway, some of my choices for movies that got robbed at the Oscars:

Double Indemnity
Citizen Kane
Any Hitchcock movie

I felt and still feel that Jeff Bridges got robbed of an Oscar. He was nominated for his performance in John Carpenters Starman, and that is one film he definitely deserved an Oscar for.

Hahah, yeah, right. Titanic was greasy fast food slop for the dumb masses while L.A. Confidential was a filet mignon for the cultured elite. :woot:

The Oscars continually prove themselves as a joke not to be taken seriously, which is something I despise when I see them used as a tool to sell movies and/or actors.

If you're going post "I want to vomit" at such a post, at most you'll be regarded with feigned interest, at the very least post something with some thought behind it, and when someone presents an argument supporting or perhaps against your theories, at the very least post opinions to the door which you open. This is about movie discussion not farmer Joe and his pals converse in a monosyllabic discussion such as this:

Farmer Joe "That um movie da Aviator got screwed out of hte oscar"

Farmer Joe's Pal "Yeah you're so right"

Pal 3 "No it didn't"

Farmer Joe "Yes it did!"

Pal 2 "Well Denzel won cuz he's black"

Farmer Joe "So true'

Pal 3 "I just vomited"
---

Tell me was there anything gleaned from that conversation? Don't go up to to bat, if you don't intend to swing.

Has anyone seen these movies?

Affliction (1997) - James Coburn

Other Nominees:
Civil Action, A (1998) - Robert Duvall (I)
Shakespeare in Love (1998) - Geoffrey Rush
Simple Plan, A (1998) - Billy Bob Thornton
Truman Show, The (1998) - Ed Harris (I)

---
I've seen Civil Action and Truman Show, but not the others... Big Lewboski, John Goodman, did an amazing performance at the very least I figure he should of gotten a nomination, but having not seen the other movies, I don't know if that's justified. Because Duvall in Civil Action was great...

I saw A Simple Plan, Shakespeare In Love and The Truman Show. I saw A Simple Plan and Shakespeare In Love in the Theater when they came out,I didn't like Shakespeare In Love and A Simple Plan was awesome, great thiller and Billy Bob's best performace next to Sling Blade.

In the Oscars' defence on Citizen Kane... It got nominated for an additonal 6 awards and took one home for best script, IMO that was one of it's strongest points was it's narrative style. Also the movie was way a head of it's time, and seeing how it's based on the votes of like hundreds of people for each catagory, there voting based on the standards of that time. And in that time period for there standards "How Green Was My Valley" was the best, I mean in all fairness both Maltese Falcon and Suspicion were nominated for Best Picture that year as well, and both are FAR more well known than How Green Was My Valley, which is why I place more stock in nominations then actual winners.

Your thoughts on John Goodman's performance in Big Lewboski?
