The Avengers Our director: Joss Whedon!

If I'm not mistaken, either Joss is the godfather to Alyson Hannigan and Alexis Denisof's first child. Or vice versa... and I LOVE the fact that Willow and Wesley Wyndam-Price are making babies together. Yeah, though... SMG clashed big-time with Susan Lucci on the set of All My Children when she was there, but recently, she came back for an episode when the show was cancelled.

Like I said, there may have been some backstage tension while they worked together. I hadn't read any recent interviews with SMG about Joss, but he does inspire fierce loyalty among many of the actors he's worked with, as they continually pop up throughout his different projects. There's been nothing but praise coming from The Avengers cast, which, for now is all that matters.

I do hope that Feige and MS are flexible when negotiating with him for Avengers 2/3.

If The Avengers is as good as everyone is saying it is, Whedon can have as big of an ego as he wants. As long as it doesn't effect the quality of the movies he directs or writes, I could care less.

SMG's mistake was not realizing that BTVS was - by faaaar - the best thing she would ever be a part of. Hopefully now she can appreciate how special it was, and how lucky she was.

She does. You can tell by her interviews for Ringer - she has said she doesn't feel like she properly appreciated it like she should have when it was happening, but she's now able to look back and see how special that experience was. I've gotten the feeling that the problem in the SMG/Joss situation from back in the BTVS days was coming more from her side. I've heard she and Boreanaz and Hannigan had fallen out by the end of the show as well (though they all seem to have gotten over it now).

I think all that stuff is in the past. SMG and Joss seemed to have a good rapport at the Paley reunion event the cast did a few years back.

Being confident but also humble is what it takes to be great and have class and Whedon has always struck me as a class act. He knows his stuff but every time I've heard him speak he has self deprecating humor and is very humble. I just listened to his solo director's commentary on the Serenity Collector's DVD and there is no over-inflated ego in sight. Just a remarkable writer and film maker that knows his stuff.

If Joss comes back for the sequel he should bring in SMG as Black Widows enemy so we can get a showdown between the two. Or atleast do a funnyordie vid.

I'll always be more disappointed with X3 than SM3, because of what could have been with the foreshadowing of Phoenix at the end of X2. If Whedon had the chance to direct X3, we could have a perfect X-Men trilogy where each movie is miles ahead of its predecessor. Alas, it was not meant to be, and we got Brett Ratner instead who proceeded to give us a stinker of a sequel.
I know,it's a shame.

I'm a buffy fan, but smg is strictly a tv actor. She was perfectly cast for that role, but she's simply not credible as a big screen action star. Hopefully now she can appreciate those years for what they were: the high point of her career.

Good lord; writing/directing one of, if not the biggest superhero movie of all time, shooting an entire Shakespeare play in a week, and putting together sketches and monologues for a Women's Rights Event, all before the superhero movie is even out in theaters?

Whedon's gotta be one of those writers/filmmakers who just can't switch off, which I have to really admire. I mean I love writing and filmmaking, but I often find myself needing some relaxation time to turn my brain off once in a while.

Didn't see the above posts. Glad to hear every one is friends now.

It's somewhat disappointing that she hasn't evolved much as an actor, but maybe that's a result of being typecast and lousy management. I'm sure she's set financially, despite having to support whatshisface.

Regarding SMG and Susan Lucci, bear in mind that Gellar was only 15 years old when she started on All My Children. Word was that Lucci had nixed hiring an actress actually old enough to play the daughter Erica Kane gave birth to at 14, so a much younger Gellar was cast. So that was a situation in which a child actor was thrown in among adult divas and had to fend for herself.

Gellar's obvious talent didn't help matters, either. Her performances were so stellar that she was nominated for a Daytime Emmy after her first year and won the next, at the age of 18. Lucci didn't manage that feat for another decade. So to a certain extent their clashes were caused by circumstances beyond a very young Gellar's control.

1 - I've met the guy. I know people who have worked and do work still with him. He is not exactly humble.

2 - Read some of his latest interviews. He's getting a little full of himself.

If you've met him and know his colleagues, how do you confuse confidence for arrogance like many on here are proclaiming to the former on here? Particularly those who have never met him and know his colleagues?

1. I've met him too. Success of any level couldn't happen to a nicer and more talented guy like him.

2. His colleagues are usually full of praise for him and are very collaborative. I mean, he is often hands on, and the only conflicts he's had were with Fox and other studios in the past in terms of Firefly and script butchering, etc. Even then he doesn't name names and even if people have been upset by his 'so-called' arrogance, they certainly have gone out of their way to call him on it, haven't they? SMG for example for all intents and purposes of whatever happened in the past has always remained respectful of him throughout. And it's not because he gave her work, otherwise such tension (a moot point now by the way) wouldn't have existed in the first place. It reflected more on her 'ego', as people have pointed out already.

Seems to me that an arrogant person by definition actually can rile up tension and clash heads with very specific people, whether they choose to or not. Whedon is neither.

In short, are we missing something here or just a case of misunderstanding, as is the case of his interviews, where his dry humour is very hard to interpret?

Wow! Another AMC fan, huh?

I watched SMG when she was on All My Children, and I agree, she earned her Emmy. She's actually one of my favorite actresses too. I also wasn't necessarily trying to troll over either her or Joss in my previous posts, just sort of reposting what I had heard, so I hope it didn't come off that way. Regardless though, I'm really glad that whatever grievances occurred in the past, SMG and Joss and everyone have gotten over them and moved on.

Also funny: I don't watch much television these days because of the new baby, but when I do, I'm usually watching Whedon shows. Right now, it's Dollhouse, and my 8 week old is hooked on it. I guess you could say that he likes the pretty colors; I prefer to think that Whedonism is inherited :word:

Only 8 weeks old? The youngest Whedon fan ever in history?

How is she not credible as a big screen action star? She could do it if she wanted and she is a good enough actress to pull off big screen movies if she actually chose good roles like she did in the 90s.
