~ Overrated Anime/Manga ~

You know those animes that people rave about as being the be all to end all of shows, but you get down to it and it's all flash and no substance? Wel here's the place to out those annoying shows for what they are.


I'll start.
Samurai Champloo

Here we're got one of the best looking shows around, from the creators of Cowboy Beebop. It's stylish and fast paced and in your face, but there's little to no story. It's random and choppy. All interractions are an excuse for violence so that down the road people can exact revenge on each other.

It's a real shame because the animation is great. If only the show was good.


Eurekl 7

This show started out great for about 3 episodes, but then there were about 15 episodes of boring useless crap that made you hate just about every character in the show. The main character's so whiny and anooying and feminine that it's painful to watchin him interact with almost real adults.

This show really wants to be neon genesis, but it never quite gets there. IT's never quite as satisfying or mind boggling. There are times when it is as confusing, but this was a big almost with so much potential for interest.

I will say this. The episodes that were good, were very good, and there were abotu 10 out of 50 so that gives me a 20% positive rating. Not bad, they only failed 80% of the time.

I have more, but I'll wait for others to respond.

Also, Pokemon is overrated so is Full Metal Alchemist, thats right it is.

Lets see. and Eureka 7... I'll agree with you on the whole character plot sucks thing. I watch Eureka 7 every saturday only because now. They have that vaderoc guy and there is actually some fighting...
even before that i watched it. Cause i guess it was suspenseful???
I dunno. I'm a very odd person. I was just waiting for Renton to take Eureka into some random back room.....
After about 3min. of thinking about why i thought about them doing that i remembered they're underage and that would be pretty F^#$ed up.



Anyway... You guys are just mad cause Bleach and Naruto are popular and the animes you all watch arn't gettin' recognized.


Truth be told. If Bleach and Naruto didn't have all those gay "fillers" they would be great shows. but i still love em.

Naruto sucks until around episode 50. Then it starts to get ok, but is filled with a million and a half fillers.

Bleach is awesome from start until around 50, when the massive fillers start.

Most overrated is either NGE or DBZ by far. DBZ actually, I don't think ANYTHING has gotten that much exposure over here.

I totally agree about "Samurai Champloo"...that one really is overrated.

I thought the animation and music was great, and was expecting it to be a great show since it came from the same folks who did Cowboy Bebop and Wolf's Rain...but it didn't live up to those shows.

There's no plot, and I found it to be really boring. I almost didn't make it through the episode my friend made me watch, and I haven't watched it again since then because it's not worth my time.

Evangelion I think is a tad overrated, even though I liked it a lot. I do recommend it to people, but I hardly think it's the masterpiece that lots of people play it up to be.

I've never seen Bleach, and I've only seen the tail-end of a dubbed ep of Naruto...it wasn't impressive at all.

If you ask me i think it was a bunch of people in a room talking about random crap and converting it into the anime now known as Samurai Champloo.

Bleach I watched once, didn't like it.

Anyways, I like Naruto as much as the next person but I stand by my conviction. Another thing why should anyone care if an anime they like doesn't get wide spread recognition?

Soul Taker is a very good anime and yet it didnt get any respect or recognition.
i believe naruto(prt.1), bleach and one piece is overrated. imo. but the naruto anime part 2 looks awesome.. so its ok to overrate that.

I'll somewhat agree on Evangellion. It was a great series, until the muddle ending that barely made sense.

Samurai Champloo is not overrated if you take it for what it is. Many ppl who haven't watched much anime overrated it because they haven't seen many good animes. Others (like I did at first) saw it was made by the Bebop ppl, and thought it would be of that caliber. After awhile I expected less, and just took it in for the action and humor, and hummed everytime the words "Samurai who smells of sunflowers" came up.

DBZ I agree with. It was and is still good, and set the pace for many action fight scenes that came after it (including the Matrix 3 fight scene at the end, which there were a few times I thought I was watching a DBZ fight scene). But for how far it's name has stretched, and how well known and praised it is, I would say it's overrated. Same with Pokemon for the exact same reason. Both are anime itself to some ppl, when their just bits of the genre.

Eureka 7 was good for awhile, but every episode starts to blur at a same point. I think they should have toughened Renton up a bit, and played down the love angle just a bit so every episode didn't play that music and show them blushing holding eachother. It had good music tho, but was still played late night on Adult Swim, not sure if it was really highly rated enough to call it overrated tho (not a bad show all in all).

Naruto might be the next in the line of DBZ and Pokemon. IMO it's better than either, the stories are slightly more mature, and I just like the action. It's just that it's getting that feeling in America that those two did. Where every kids talking about it (while getting most names wrong t, and the merchandise is everywhere. So for the scope of how fast it's getting well known I'd say it's overrated, but in no means a horrible show (up to the fillers that is, and even then there have been much worse shows and stories).

Personally I like Bleach, and don't feel it's overrated at all . The first 10 episodes were slow, the next ones slowly picked up the pace. By the time that music hits and Ichigo takes out those three Vice Captains in slow motion, and goes Bankai the show had me hooked. I also don't think FMA was overrated. To me it had a more well thought out plot and overall goal than most 3 or 4 animes combined. The fighting was good, had decent humor, and the movie ending just felt more satisying than most anime endings.

You're right, I had no idea that it was a comedy. I watched the first 13 eps, determined to give it a chance, but it was weak sauce all the way. If this really is a comedy, than it's one of the worst I've ever seen. Good comedy usually has good writing. Random crap isn't funny, scenarios that seem random are, but they are intricately planned. This show does not. I'm saying that it's not as amazing as people claim it to be. It's all sizzle, no steak. Like Phantom Menace.

Actually Bleach is one of the best animes/mangas ever. Despite it's recent decline in the mangaverse, it was told beautifully. That explains the reason for it's high rating. This also goes for Naruto. Another great manga where action followed story which gave characters purpose. I do find it funny how you decide other peoples opinions for them.

Just because something is aired on A.S. doesn't mean it's supposed to be funny. If you really watched A.S., you'd noticed that the original programming is meant for humour. Most of the anime is actually pretty action or drama oriented. Ofcourse, you're going to find some humor. But that mostly background stuff.

You should really watch Champloo again... you might have missed important things focusing on the "humor".

I totally agree! naruto is overrated and so is Bleach. No one shows love to the good shows like .hack/sign! I love Naruto but some people i know at school associate everything to it! Besides a few characters most of the people on Naruto are pretty annoying. Bleach was good but people made it sound like crack when that first came out. Samurai Champloo and Afro Samurai i feel are also overrated. But then again afro samurai has Samuel L jackson! OH DBZ as well. i have to admit with most of these shows for drama if i want it i'll go watch law and order. you know the person maybe a month and your willing to die for them. I'd like to meet that person. I need some martyrs, i'm so lonely...

Now don't get me wrong. When I say overrated, I don't mean bad necessarily, just not as good as people make them out to be. This is the case with Inuyasha. Though it might have something to do with the fact that I was and always will be a devout Ranma 1/2 fan, I felt like most of the characters in Inuyasha have already been explored in Ranma. Now it's a pretty ok show, but I think that people love it because of the familiarity of the characters, rather than the strength of the actual story.

This is one that has started to grow in popularity on a lot of the forums out there, and I just don't understand it. While the first episode was good, possibly even great, the rest of the show suffers from EXTREME pacing problems. There are times when almost nothing happens for two episodes, and then six episodes worth of stuff happens in the next episode. And I just don't know how people can watch it. Which is sad because there is so much potential for a god show with this one. It would also make a good xenogearsesque RPG, but alas, we're left with this overrated show with mediocre writing.
